The big headliner for 2015 is going to be Paul Simon, mark my words.
I was thinking this too. NFF did mention on Facebook that Paul Simon wants too much money. But Jay Sweet commented on Reddit that Paul Simon is one of the few remaining white horses and the act at the top of his list.
I don't know if it's official yet, but Jay Sweet announced at the Watkins aftershow that NFF will be July 25-27 next year (thus pushing NJF into August).
So with that information, I'll start the speculation!
Headliners: The Decemberists (Fri), Mumford & Sons (Sat), Leonard Cohen (Sun)
I still think Mumford will pull a Jack White one of these years and accept a pay cut to play NFF.
Oh man. I saw Leonard Cohen last December, and it was three hours of absolute perfection. If he plays the Fort, I will have no choice but to sell some non-vital organs on the black market - missing Jack White was hard enough. So... anybody need a spleen?
EDIT: Dylan was actually pretty good when I saw him at Americanarama last year, surprisingly. He's probably a bit out of NFF's budget though, and I can't really see him doing it for a pay cut like Jack White did. I think you're safe.
Unfortunately I have no reason to suspect that they'll book him. But he is a legacy act that still tours (probably not for much longer) and probably would be the perfect draw and price range for a headliner at NFF (although, a little less energy than other recent headliners). Fingers crossed!
Just a question to those who went. I understand that NFF is nota cmaping festival like Binnaroo. How much did the hotel rooms cost this year? I would love to go before I die.
Downtown Newport will run around $500 per night from what I've seen in the past. There is a Ramada in Middletown that would run $800 for 2 people thurs->Monday and i think they have a shuttle to downtown where you can ferry over to NFF. There are some cheapies over in wickford which is ten miles - over the two bridges Jamestown/Newport. Book early if you want to be close to town as some properties are already fully booked for NFF weekend next year.
They played. And I loved their set. Some of their "folkier" tunes were perfect. They were one of my most anticipated sets; I have heard people tell me that they're boring live but I thought this was far from the truth.
I think Band of Horses and Conor Oberst both suffered from "just another set on a long tour" syndrome when it came to the media.
They didn't shock (like Reignwolf), surprise (like J Roddy Walston, Benjamin Booker), or wow (like Oh Hellos, Willie Watson, Jack White, Ryan Adams, Mavis), so the media (and us Inforooers) didn't really pick up their performances. But I thought both sets were wonderful. Both exceeded the high expectations that I had going into the sets.
And there was not 1 show that I saw all weekend that disappointed me (this wasn't the case last year when Feist was a big let down).

I really liked Conor's set but there were only a few moments/songs that were definitely different/special when compared to regular tour date shows. But I agree that others had better media coverage for a variety of reasons.
Was the Ryan Adams set as good being there as it sounded on the npr podcast? Both his and Jenny Lewis sounded great in their respective sets.
It was awesome! I was very close to the stage, right in front of him. He was a bucket list item for me, having never seen him before and being a fan since the beginning, so I now have it in my top five favorite sets ever.

He's on my bucket list too. His stage banter was funny as well, especially the whole Michael McDonald moment.
He sounded great live. My only complaint was that there was a little too much banter. It was funny, but he could have squeezed another song or two into his short set if he wanted to. Especially given his back catalog of songs that I was hoping to hear.
Also, IMO the most likely artists to be invited back next year: Shakey Graves, Hozier, Mandolin Orange, Lucius
These 4 acts were everywhere, all weekend long. Hozier, Shakey, and Lucius seemed to be BFFs with Jay Sweet as I saw them kicking back with him numerous times. It probably also helps that they're all on upward trajectory tracks when it comes to popularity (unless they get too big).

To keep you folkin' in the offseason, I wanted to share with you two Spotify finds of mine (I'm sure some of you are already ahead of me on this).
Spotify has a playlist called "The Pulse of Americana" which is a playlist with 50 of the hottest tracks in the Americana scene. If it's like their other playlists, they'll keep it updated as new songs/albums are released. Right now it includes acts like Shovels & Rope, Shakey Graves, Jenny Lewis, First Aid Kit, Puss N Boots, Nikki Lane, Hozier, Houndmouth, and Jamestown Revival. I think as time goes on, it may be a good indicator of acts that NFF will be trying to book for next year.
Spotify also has a "Folk" radio station. While listening this morning, it played through mainly modern "folk" acts like The Decemberists, Mumford and Sons, Kishi Bashi, Shovels & Rope, the Lumineers, and Of Monsters and Men. I wish it would also throw in Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, or John Prine every once in a while (and maybe it does but I did not listen long enough), but it still made for a good listen. I think their radio stations are even available to those of you who do not have a Premium membership.
Which reminds me of an 'overheard at NFF'. G and I sat down next to some older fellow who was rocking out in his chair by himself. He offered up his chair to us while he went into the pit for a better view of Conor Oberst. We struck up conversation with him when he got back, and he talked about how his son got him a Spotify Premium membership for Christmas and how it was the best gift he ever received. He spent the entirety of March to July checking out the Newport artists. He eventually told his son that he'll never have to think again about what to get him for his birthday/father's day/christmas; just keep the membership rolling.

I introduced my roommate to Hozier a few months ago and she just told me last night that she's been hearing him a lot on a radio station here.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Looking back at some of my favorite moments at NFF---Seeing Tall Tall Trees as the first act of the day. Loved his creativity. Lucius onstage with Tall Tall Trees and then Mavis Staples. The energy of The Oh Hellos. Benjamin Booker-- no other words are needed. Seeing Langhorne Slim, Spirit Family Reunion, and The Deslondes in the July Family tent. Houndmouth! Jenny Lewis was lovely. Too many memories to put on one page. Can't wait for next year.
I've heard one song and have a vote that they will be on the summer circuit 2015.
Same wavelengths!
They actually opened for Jamestown Revival on a tour this summer. I ran into a friend who works for a major clothing company and she was sent to the show to interview the Wind and the Wave. They're even signed to a major label. I was surprised that the opener at a tiny show already seemed to be on a major upward trajectory.

Ok ok! I admit that I only got wind of the new location last week or so and hadn't had the chance to check out the calendar yet. This is only ten mintues away- I think I have just died and gone to music heaven! They are bringing names to Hartford! I AM SO DAMN EXCITTEEDDDD! Tickets aren't that cheap and that'll keep me from going to every show I want to go to, but ohhhh my lordy!!!! These names! In the next month or two in addition to Puss n Boots- Deer Tick, Nicki Bluhm, Amy Helm, Shawn Colvin, Brett Dennan, Tim Reynolds...
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
So happy for you bonz! We went to Infinity Hall once. While beautiful that place is past podunk and way into poondagauh!
Yes, I rarely make it out there to the original Infinity Hall (I am not sure who chose such a random location for a venue in the first place), but this one is oh-so-close in downtown Hartford
