USA!USA!
A great couple days of football. My favorite underdogs Côte d'Ivoire got a win. USA got a win. And Costa Rica (who I drew in the office pool) also won.
Now España just needs to pull it together, I'm hoping for a repeat.
However I'm falling behind fast. All these 11 PM, 2 AM, and 5 AM kickoffs are starting to take a toll on me.

Sooooooo let's talk about how crazy this group stage has been. Who would've thought that Spain would have zero points and seven goals conceded through two games

The zero points thing doesn't shock me as much as it should. The goals conceded though is unheard of. Can't believe it's already over for them. Pumped for that Italy/Costa Rica game Friday
I only speak a little Spanish but I love the Mexican soccer announcers. They are way better than the boring as heck British guys on espn. If you want a real treat try boxing in Spanish sometime. Now that is fun.
today my advisor came into the lab, and I had the world cup on one monitor, and my work on the other, but was obviously watching the game. we chit chatted a bit, and he left. about 5 minutes later I get an email from him asking how I was streaming it. awesome.
so far my favorite game to watch has been australia/netherlands, I think. I would have loved to watch them trounce spain, but I was bonnarooing. did catch the ivory coast win on the farm though.
b) I think we can all agree that the best move would be for Germany and the US to agree to end their game in a draw so both can merrily go onto the 16s.
That last 30 seconds stung, but really, who saw this scenario after two games for the USA? Didn`t really seem like many people had them where they are, much less being the dominate team on the field against Ronaldo and company. Germany is going to suck, but hopefully Dempsey and the crew can manage at least a tie.
Hopefully the Americans can come back from that, and at least draw against the Germans. G is so brutal, the US would have advanced in half the other groups by now.
I cried, that was probably the most upset I've ever been at a sporting event in my life. Won't be over this for a long time
I mean it was rough yeah... but you realize the US is still in an excellent position to get through to the 16.... right?
Yeah I know, I was just watching it with a huge group of people that were all really into the game. I had never experienced people so emotionally invested in US soccer. It really seems like soccer is rapidly gaining popularity here

Pretty much the only way we don't make it is if we lose to Germany, Ghana wins, and then some stuff with goals scored. If we lose 1-0 or 2-1, Ghana would need to win by 2. If we lose 2-0 or 3-1, Ghana would need to win by any margin.
I don't think its a lock that we can stay within 1 goal of Germany. I also think Ghana should be the favorite in their match.
So I wouldn't say we have "excellent" position to move on, but I'd give it just greater than a coin flip.
