You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.
I didn't realize it had been that long. so were they together before her debut came out? she was huge already then. Their(DC) hiatus saw the release of Knowles' debut album Dangerously in Love (2003), which established her as a viable solo artist worldwide; it sold 11 million copies, earned five Grammy Awards and featured the Billboard number one singles "Crazy in Love" and "Baby Boy" if there was a Bonnaroo in the form that it's in now, she definitely was big enough to headline. but the thing is they have never had a headliner like that. lots of artists are technically big enough to headline, but that doesn't mean that it would actually ever happen. I don't see it happening, so I don't think it's even worth arguing about.
You really think so sang? Maybe not Beyonce, but I think some pop star is inevitable. What about Lady Gaga this year?
I don't think so, but this fest keeps growing/changing. so who knows?

I have Garageland. Yes his voice is not as solid as it once was (Crocodile Rock was arranged different for sure) but I still enjoyed him very much in 2012

Just outta curiosity, have the people wanting Elton actually seen him before?
No, and that is part of the reason I voted him. He is someone who I would like to see live before he dies but probably would never buy a ticket to see on his own ala Petty or Springsteen (before I saw him at roo at realized he was absolutely worth $100 to see live)

Rod Stewart? Really? Man I usually drink from the knowledge of the Garageland well but wow...this one threw me for a loop. But I have not seen Mr. Stewart either in a long time and maybe you are correct.

I just really don't get the fascination with Elton John. I don't like Billy Joel but I can see the appeal to people our age, but Elton John is just soft rock Michael McDonald stuff in my opinion.
, have you checked out the new Beyonce record? I know you liked JT quite a bit, like to hear how you think it compares
I am guilty of owning too many Bill Joel records, so it has to be etched off my bucket list -- and even I'm too cheap to buy a MSG ticket for his residency. (I chose BJ and Bae)

I actually just snagged it. I'm gonna sink my teeth in tonight. Pretty excited about it. That surprise release threw me for a loop.

i'm right there with you. i cant figure it out for the life of me. he is even showing up on a good deal of #roowishlists so it seems like the fascination isn't just limited to here. Dare i say, i think sang's argument for Journey may be better then any you could throw at me for Elton John. i mean, he's relegated to playing Vegas these days. i get when people say something along the lines of "i would see him if he were there" but there seems to be a really large amount of people that would be ok with him as a headline, which just blows my mind.
I don't really agree with having Billy Joel or Elton John in this poll. If I can hear their music on the same radio station that plays Johnboy and Billy in the morning(classic rock station) then I don't consider them pop artists in the same way as the others on this list. I'm not saying they are not pop artists though. In My mind I can't put them in the same category as JT or Gaga.

I think that addition was for the sake of having our "old White Guy" HL. But I don't know the OP's intentions
I'm pretty sick of the "old White Guy", unless it's Uncle Neil. Keep you Billy Joel's, your Elton John's, your Madonna's. Give me something from this decade rather than some nostalgia filled throw back that should have been put to the pastures years ago.

I just love the fact that you referred to Madonna as an old white guy lol.

You callin' Madonna a Guy?
Seriously though, I'm with you. I think every fest has a headliner whose career peaked outside of this decade though. There are not many things that I would love more than seeing Neil and the Horse close out Bonnaroo next year.
edit: Rather than every fest, I should have said the top 4 US fests.

Maybe I'm in the minority here... but as a (sorta) youngin who grew up listening to my mom's "old white guy" albums, I'm still pretty stoked on getting to see those acts... I don't want to be sorely disappointed by any of them, but I'd even take a so-so Elton John just for the nostalgia/legend factor. If some of you on here have had the chance to see those acts already, or even better got to see them years ago, I can understand you being over it... but I'm usually pretty excited to see an older act on a lineup that I didn't think I'd ever get to see. Just my two cents...

Some of the best shows I've seen in my past 10 Bonnaroo has been the legend acts. I've defended many of them. Elton is someone I just can't get behind. I wanted my money (and time) back. I felt so bad the first time that I tried again with the same results.
I'll never down anyone for wanting to see bands I don't want there. It's Bonnaroo. Theres 150 other bands to be excited about.
If you haven't seen him, you should. Hopefully you won't walk away like I did.
