Best way to get there? Do you guys use the shuttle/ferry? Or some other way?
If youre in Manhattan Id say just take the 4/5/6 train to 115th street (i think thats the stop) and just walk across the bridge. Its only like a 15 minute walk.

Perfect. That'll save me some money for a ferry/shuttle.
And the Strokes to me are the ultimate "awesome in theory" band. I love their albums and I love seeing them on lineups but they're always absolutely awful in large settings.
What album do you like the most? I have only tried to listen to some of their stuff and wasn't hooked right away.

I thought Bonnaroo 2011 was great. Sure, it wasn't next level, but it was far from awful.

They were great at PJ20. Even had Josh Homme and EV join them on stage for a couple songs. They genuinely seemed to be enjoying themselves, which is definitely not always the case.

A+ on this line-up, I was already sold prior to The Strokes but that is just awesome. They were great at Roo 2011, but really fantastic set at Lollapalooza 2010. Way more energy, I think the heat got to them at Roo!

The bridge is easy and cheap, but I remember they've had it closed in the past after the festival (they definitely did this with Electric Zoo, not sure about Gov Ball). The ferry supposedly got a lot better this year, I think they will probably be a bit more efficient this year, but you have to buy the pass and those sell out quickly.
I have taken cabs, which are surprisingly cheap, but it's obviously very tough to get one for the trip home. I see myself walking over the Triboro at least once to get home to Queens.

Thanks....i'm going to be taking the train in from Long Island and not sure if i'll be crashing at a friend's place or just going home each night. So I'm trying to decide between shuttle/ferry and walking the bridge.

The bridge is mayhem. I used the Triboro the opposite direction to get into Harlem to take the train home to the Bronx last year and there fights, fucking and freak-outs every night I walked it. I assume the leg going to Queens may be a bit more tame, but the bridge, if nothing else, is quite an experience.
THE STROKES! May be the band that makes me bite the bullet on this lineup.
I just wish hotels were cheaper in NYC.
You could look at hotels up North in Westchester or even CT. Train ticket costs for cities north of the city are around $30 round trip for Metro North and getting to the island isn't too costly.

Can any one recommend the best area to look for a hotel. I plan on driving up from Georgia for this and I don't know anything about NYC. I also have seen yall mention late night shows so I would like to find a hotel that is close to the fest and will be near some of the late night shows.

Midtown/East side of manhattan is the most convenient. Near Lexington avenue, if you can, so you can get the 4/5/6-to-the-walking-bridge thing.

I have friends who want to come up from GA as well and I just don't get it. I don't think this lineup is that amazing or unique to do it IMO with so many fest around the southeast. Just seems like this trip would get really expensive fast.

One of the bonuses is getting to hang out/stay in NYC I guess.

So I'm pretty sure these guys just won over a new customer with that lineup. Just need to find a cheap place to stay that isn't going to involve a 1 hour commute.

Hey man, thanks for answering questions, i have one more. Friend of mine lives in Hoboken, what do you think would be the easiest way to get to and from there to Randall's island. Just trying to decide if i should be buying a shuttle or a ferry pass, or just skip that all together.

I would have to verify that the ferries leave from the south street seaport, but your best bet from Hoboken might be to take the path train to the world trade center and then walk to the seaport to get a ferry. Otherwise, bus to port authority -> 7 train to 42nd street -> 6 train to 116 or whatever -> walk over the bridge. Hoboken is pretty far, but its doable via public transportation.

Yeah, but based on your recent posts on this board you have absolute shit for taste in music, so it's not surprising that you'd rather stumble into Hangout or whatever boring lineup is close to you and call it a day.
You do realize music is subjective right? I promise there are many shows we could get down to together, if you were not suck a dick.

Awesome! Thanks, i'll buy you a beer at the fest, and we can discuss ASOIAF theories. Ferry it is then.
