Can any one recommend the best area to look for a hotel. I plan on driving up from Georgia for this and I don't know anything about NYC. I also have seen yall mention late night shows so I would like to find a hotel that is close to the fest and will be near some of the late night shows.
I have friends who want to come up from GA as well and I just don't get it. I don't think this lineup is that amazing or unique to do it IMO with so many fest around the southeast. Just seems like this trip would get really expensive fast.
I have a few reasons.
I usually do Wakarusa VIP in June so this trip shouldn't cost a whole lot more. It's around the same driving distance and Waka VIP tickets go for around 750-800.
I would get to kill two birds with one stone by going to a stacked fest and visit NYC which I have never done.
I have been dreaming of seeing Outkast forever and it's finally happening. HOping to see them atleast 4 or 5 times this year.
This all hinges on Waka's release tomorrow though. I will probably end up back on the mountain if Waka announces Outkast, Governor's Ball will be the answer if Outkast isn't on Waka's final release.

Midtown/East side of manhattan is the most convenient. Near Lexington avenue, if you can, so you can get the 4/5/6-to-the-walking-bridge thing.
Thanks for the info. I'm going to check out Lexington Avenue when I get home.

Damon Albarn is seriously out of nowhere, Blue didn't even hit New York last year. Here's hoping he has a good crowd, he kind of sticks out in this lineup.
Yeah, but based on your recent posts on this board you have absolute shit for taste in music, so it's not surprising that you'd rather stumble into Hangout or whatever boring lineup is close to you and call it a day.
You do realize music is subjective right? I promise there are many shows we could get down to together, if you were not suck a dick.
ps. I go to about 100 shows a year fyi <3
And I'm sure that none of the shows you have seen within the past year were the Strokes, OutKast, Jack White, deafhaven, Damon Albarn, or Interpol. So there are a lot of good gets for this fest.
I think the poster was only being a dick because you were passing your own subjective opinion into this festival.
do you guys think I could wait for the Bonnaroo Lineup to drop on Feb 19 and then choose between gov ball and roo? I don't have the money for all of these festivals...Only really have money for one.

Don't have the $$$ for this, but I'd be willing to volunteer. Are the shifts similar to Bonnaroo? I'd imagine you're probably working for 6 or so hours on 2 out of the 3 days, and then you have the rest of the time off.

I was deciding between this and Hangout and it's not even close... Governors Ball is definitely trying this year! Too many names on here to pass it up. Buying a 3 day the second my direct deposit comes through tomorrow.

Tickets on sale now. I got a 3-day pass using the payment plan (same price as buying it right now). As of now I am official for Newport Folk and Governor's Ball. I'm expecting Roo as well unless I really, really can't justify the lineup.
Whats the expected timeframe on when tickets will sell out? Probably won't be able to make this purchase for another 2 weeks.
Last year around March they posted a message about day tickets coming soon (which would only be available depending on how many 3-day passes they sold). So you probably have a little bit of time. Though I do think this is a killer lineup which may sell better than Guns N Roses + Kings of Leon

Awesome to hear thanks. Yeah, I totally expect it to sell faster than last year.

No problem. I read through our thread for this fest last year and there was a good amount of "on sale" time.

If you're looking for a place to stay in the city airbnb is a great option. Probably going to get a private room 10-15 minutes away from the festival so I'll have plenty of time to explore the city! It will only be my fourth time going to NYC but the first time being able to wander. Can't wait to see what they have in store for aftershows! Would love to see a show at Terminal 5 again.

Is NYC back on Airbnb? I know the city banned it at some point this summer.

Yep! Airbnb probably went after the city in court since NYC is probably their largest market. They can ban large soft drinks but not rented rooms.
This will be her last festival for a bit. She needed Vampire Weekend, bad. Oddly enough, she likes this one over Coachella. She also thought "Roar" was the best tune from 2013, too. Go figure.
Really wish we could make it to this festival (awesome lineup).
Whatever you news is GL, I'm happy for you!
Coming soon. Just keep your fingers crossed for a few more weeks. We are gonna stay in Secaucus this time around. I can't have another MMJ NYE fiasco like I did last time.
I may be able to host a couple peeps myself. I will warn I do live in Jersey City now, but it is the same distance to Manhattan as before. I also have a driveway as well for anyone driving in. Just hit me up via PM if anyone is interested.
Really wish we could make it to this festival (awesome lineup).

Fingers crossed (I think I know what this is about).
And, also, interest piqued: what happened to cause MMJ NYE fiasco?

I think I might try and go to this... I remember after Firefly last year I said I wanted to go to 2 festivals next summer, only problem is they're pretty close but I think i'll live. It will be expensive as hell though as I still need to find a place to stay for Firefly, much less a place in NYC for this.
Need to see if Albarn is playing solo shows within reason. If not, I need to get a day ticket for whatever day he's playing. Most of the other acts on this lineup that I want to see I can catch at Coachella, but I gotta catch that Albarn show.
Spoon doesn't do anything for you? They're pretty rare these days as well, no?

Given the fact this was the only line-up they were on today, I guess so. Half-assed expecting them at both Bonnaroo and Sasquatch.
Because I like lists:
1. OutKast 2. Vampire Weekend 3. Deafheaven 4. Run The Jewels 5. Interpol 6. TVOTR 7. Banks 8. Tanlines 9. Classixx 10. The Kills
