I absolutely loved his Forecastle set, but I'm still really jealous of those covers and Blue Orchid. There really isn't any one like him in the world of Rock and Roll right now.
meeee too. Being up front at the superjam was awesome. But I think people are going to be talking about seeing Jack White in 2014 the way people talk about seeing Zeppelin and the Who in the early 70s.

I'm not very familiar with his catalog, so it was a decision between being in the back for his show or the front for the Superjam. I ended up staying for the superjam and didn't really enjoy it. I've heard it got better, but it started 30 mins late and for the 1st half hour it just sounded like another Skrillex set so I just left and watched about 20 mins of Frank Ocean, Stagerlee by Nick Cave, and the last few songs by the Flaming lips. Overall not a bad night but I could have easily seen Jack White and done the same thing

I'm wondering how his Newport show was? The Pittsburgh show last night was my least favorite time seeing him. I think the looseness of this tour has started translating into sloppiness, and not of the variety I like. The band seems very disjointed at times, songs become unrecognizable and not just because of his spontaneous aggressive guitar solos, which is of course Jack's hat, but because most of it is too spastic. Jack certainly isn't playing with the same focused intensity he had on the Blunderbuss tour. Most of the band, beside Daru Jones, seems bored, or maybe they are playing up the indifferent look too much.
Maybe I'm the one getting bored?
Oh, and also, his voice has been ridiculously strained. He didn't sound very good at Forecastle, but at times, his voice went out completely at the Pittsburgh show. But, hey, road weary can do that.

Newport was fantastic. I disagree with all of this, based on the shows I've seen. Jack has always been a bit spastic/all over the place because of the way he approaches live shows and the Newport show was absolutely awesome. I put it above the Governors Ball set but way below the Bonnaroo set out of shows I saw this summer. The band seemed on point as usual at Newport and I never considered them sloppy. It was fantastic and Jack put on an awesome set for a festival that he clearly enjoyed a bunch.

Sounded great all 3 times I've seen him so you must have caught him at a bad time. The only strain in his voice was singing "Goodnight, Irene" after bringing out a bunch of guests and talking about Pete Seeger but that was cuz he was getting emotional (or acting the part).

I thought he sounded great at Forecastle with the possible exception of the opening "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground." That was a little sloppy and hard to recognize other than the lyrics at times. But after that, it was all pretty much gold for me at least.

I think my largest problem with this tour is the lack of Blunderbuss, which I've come to realize I just enjoy much more than Lazzaretto, and Blunderbuss is just a damn good album. I enjoy the spastic, all over the place performance Jack delivers, but I just feel this time around, it took a nose dive with the energy. His voice was pretty bad last night. I guess he screamed it all out with the epic Chicago show and Newport, which is understandable.

I've really wanted to hear Hypocritical Kiss since I missed the Blunderbuss tour. Still waiting for that one.
I imagine after this specific tour his future shows will be more of a good mix of both albums. I hope so, anyway.
I wonder what next project is on the horizon and/or new configuration of band members (I personally enjoyed the Buzzards/Peacocks bands best).
I'd hope that he'd still do a tour without a new album out but maybe he'd wait until then. Seems like 2015 will be a little Dead Weather-focused so it could be in 2015/2016 we see another new album.
I'd like to see him keep working with the same members (of either band). I love the current group. Don't get rid of Fats.

Just saw that setlist from Chicago...really was hoping I would get to see blue orchid at roo or forecastle. My only other chance to see jack this year will be in Cleveland, and I'm still not sure I can make that work. I agree with itm though, I think jack has been amazing the two times I've seen him. I also like lazaretto more than blunderbuss though too.

This Detroit show went better than the last one.
On Wednesday night, Jack White played the second of a two-night stand in his hometown of Detroit. After waging war against the Fox Theater and its plush seats, White took to the much more friendly confines of the Masonic Temple. If you’re up on your Third Man history, Masonic Temple is the venue White saved from foreclosure last year by paying off its 140,000+ in back taxes. In light of his actions, the Masonic Temple Association renamed its Cathedral Theater to the ‘Jack White Theater.’ So, technically, Jack White played Jack White Theater last night, and man, did he give one hell of a show.
White delivered a scorching 38-song, three-hour performance that included virtually every White Stripes song you’d want to hear, including the tour debuts of “The Big Three Killed My Baby” and “Apple Blossom”, along with rarely played songs like “I Fought Piranhas” and “Screwdriver”.
The set also included an appearance from Dead Weather bandmates Alison Mosshart and Dean Fertita, who accompanied him on “I Cut Like a Buffalo”. He also briefly covered Led Zeppelin’s “Lemon Song” during his performance of “Ball and Biscuit”.
See the full setlist below:
Setlist: Fell in Love With a Girl (The White Stripes song) Astro (The White Stripes song) The Big Three Killed My Baby (The White Stripes song) High Ball Stepper Lazaretto Missing Pieces Just One Drink Hotel Yorba (The White Stripes song) You Know That I Know (Hank Williams cover) Love Interruption Weep Themselves to Sleep I Cut Like a Buffalo (The Dead Weather song) (with The Dead Weather) Cannon (The White Stripes song) Icky Thump (The White Stripes song) Screwdriver (The White Stripes song) Ramblin’ Man (Hank Williams cover) Apple Blossom (The White Stripes song) Three Women The Same Boy You’ve Always Known (The White Stripes song) We’re Going to Be Friends (The White Stripes song) Sugar Never Tasted So Good (The White Stripes song) Entitlement Alone in My Home Steady, As She Goes (The Raconteurs song) Ball and Biscuit (The White Stripes song) / Got My Mojo Workin’ (Muddy Waters cover) / The Lemon Song (Led Zeppelin cover)
Encore: The Hardest Button to Button (The White Stripes song) Sixteen Saltines / Devil’s Haircut (Beck cover) Hypocritical Kiss That Black Bat Licorice Would You Fight for My Love? Blue Blood Blues (The Dead Weather song) You Don’t Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You’re Told) (The White Stripes song) My Doorbell (The White Stripes song) I Fought Piranhas (The White Stripes song) Seven Nation Army (The White Stripes song)

I want Catch Hell Blues and 300 MPH Torrential Outpour Blues.....those songs from Icky Thump always stood out to me. If I can get that live at some show I'm at in the future I'll be so happy.

This is probably my most anticipated package in a while. I'm so happy they are releasing this on DVD and Vinyl. That show will be one I remember for ages.
Do they usually also offer the records for regular sale from Third Man online shop?
I would love the 3xLP, and maybe even the DVD, but not sure I wanna sign up for this Vault thing.
Maybe I could sign up, and get this package, then unsubscribe, but do I wanna pay $70 for the record (all I really want)?
They usually don't offer the records for regular sale. That's the whole point of the Vault. It's for hardcore fans or collectors. I do know that people will sometimes put an item from the vault up on Ebay if they don't want one of them (like if they only want the DVD) but I'm not sure you'll get lucky with this release.
I imagine it wouldn't be for sale in the TMR store but it's possible that they release a bare bones "black-only, without fancy packaging" version. There was some annoyed Vault members when they found out the vault would be a version of the Jack White solo album (which was also being released on its own, in a different version).
