Fun ass day. Word up to Sgt B and Longinus. My favorite show of the day was Slayer. I thought Outkast and Melvins were also badass. Afternoon was a little choppy with the partial overlaps, but we caught 25 minutes of Fishbone and 25 at Action Bronson. Both shows sounded good. Red Baraat was kicking it . All in all a solid B fest day. The weekend is off to a good start.

Slayer wins for sure. Sound issues on the main stage though, even in VIP. Also LOA front row shrunk by about half this year. Outkast was completely packed. Bass sounded like a weird thuddy fart. Still had fun but sound issues piss me off.
Was so so grateful for VIP when we arrived at fest at 6:30pm. Lines were outrageous, I have never seen anything remotely like that at voodoo since I started coming in 2008. I've always just walked right in, I have no idea what the hell was happening. Luckily we had VIP entrance.
They did fix the sound bleed from Le Plur, so props for that.
Still, the amateur logistical bullshit of Voodoo year after year is wearing on me. Every year they fuck something up. Apologies for not radiating positivity, last night was fun regardless.
Slayer and Outkast saved the day. Twenty One Pilots put on their usual show. Impressive for anyone who has never seen them but nothing too special. I was about 5 people back from the rail for Slayer so I definitely wasn't leaving for Outkast. Both were awesome sets
Random day for me. I've got Naughty Prof, Desert Noises, March 4 th, DFA, Pete Tong Flux/30 secs, Benjamin Booker, Freedia Skrillex Arctic oh and I'll be in a red pelicans hoodie with a N Cap
Day is slightly hazy. Naughty Prof was killer wking toward the show. 30 Seconds ACTH surprised the shit out of me. Freedia was killer and I thought Monkeys was the best show. Again a solid B day. Having a ball and am expecting FF to own the day
Day 3 kicked ass. After a disappointing night on day 2, John Butler Trio, The Revivalists, Fuel (90s-tastic), Gogol Bordello(!), and Foo Fighters made the entire day a great one.
Overall, I'd say Naughty Professor was the most impressive set I saw this weekend. Slayer/Outkast was the most memorable, Gogol Bordello had the best energy in the crowd (I was up front), and Foo Fighters get the title of best set (of course).
Day was sort of a blur. But I though Foo Fighters were outrageous. Griz killed it and sounded great. Barely Alive was awesome. JBT day set was great, particularly the instrumental Ocean(s). Caught a little bit of Lauren Hill on the way out and maybe a 5 minute piece of the back of Pretty Lights. Herobust was pretty good. Overall a solid A day with a B/B+ Voodoo. Only complaint was I lost a phone. But otherwise food was good, lines were relatively short for bars and bathrooms. I still think voodoo is an underrated fest. There are always some minor issues, but overall I always have a kick ass time. Tickets on sale for 99/300 for a limited time.
Thanks jabco. Gonna pick one up. $120 w/ fees and shit is nothing for a 3 day fest especially when they're lineup is structured the way it has been the last few yrs (NIN/Pearl Jam/Metallica are 3 of my fave bands). Maybe TOOL next year?
Gotta throw it up for Voodoo as that was a quality ass weekend. Some random thoughts: I didn't visit many of the sponser tents, but I did manage to stop by the Jack Daniels booth. I ordered a Jack and 7. They left out the 7. Haha. Then yesterday I was at the bar grabbing a screwdriver and this bitch bartender tells me they only had doubles left. I laughed about that all night. There were some damn good food options. I tried 5 or 6 different things, and none of them sucked. It was amusing that the longest lines were at that carnival truck with hamburgers and hot dogs. Wtf? Generally wasted crowd as you would expect, but well behaved for the most part. My Top 10 shows were:
Foo Fighters - fn fantastic set. 3rd time I've seen them and they are always great
Slayer - simply kicked ass
Arctic Monkeys - definitely a superior live show. That is one band that live is so much better
Outkast - some sound issues, but they still killed it
Griz - just what you would expect, dj and sax. Jammed.
Melvins - I hadn't seen them since 1986 and didn't expect this set to be this good
Fishbone - still completely has it
Red Baraat - always great live
Barely Alive - brought the hard dub
DFA 1979 - first time seeing them. Much harder than I would hVe guessed
Tons of other great shit that can't all be in the top 10. But Freedia was great, 30 Seconds was much better than I would have guessed and certainly worth watching. Tiny bits I saw of Skrillex, Ms Lauren Hill and Pretty flights were money. I only saw a minute of Golgo, but they sounded great. I dug Action Bronson. The only show I didn't really care for was 21 Pilots. Shit goes by too quickly, but you know what they say about time when you're having fun.
Fwiw, I got a text today that Lotus will be playing HoB on 2/11. Best show I've seen this year, so you know I'll be there. Peace, and I hope everyone else had as fun of a weekend as I did, and for anyone who was new to the fest and city, I hope you had a blowout time. Voodoo is underrated and IMHO is the best festival in the city.

I've calmed down a bit since Friday. Sound issues on the main stage were definitely gone by Saturday.
Friday before the fest we had dinner at Mandinas. Definitely not the best food in the new orleans, in fact sometimes its downright bad, but I've been coming here since I was a kid and love it because nobody there gives a fuck. Had a chopped steak with gravy onions and french fries with some canned green beans on the side and it was overpriced and delicious.
Already mentioned Friday bands, Slayer was fantastic and Outkast too, but I was really disappointed with the sound issues, particularly during Outkast. Andre 3000 is a flawless human being.
Saturday had brunch at Cafe Atchafalaya. Outstanding, will return again. Fried oysters with poached egg and cream cheese grits. We went really late to the festival on Saturday because the undercard was super weak, nobody I even cared to investigate. Started out at Flux Pavilion, who I always managed to miss at other festivals. Got a spot in LOA front row on the rail and had a great time. Nothing mind blowing, but a fun set with a fun crowd. Left a little early because my wife wanted "to see Jared Leto". I'm no fan of 30 seconds but like others said here what we caught was actually pretty awesome. If they played another festival and there was nothing else to see I'd definitely go. Leto was high energy and enthusiastic, I was totally lost as to the songs but the crowd was hysterical. After that on to Big Freedia, who was marvelous of course, then just a few Arctic Monkeys songs before wrapping up the day with my nine millionth skrillex set.
Sunday brunch at Coquette, which I actually enjoyed more than Atchafalaya. Beef Tartare and a bacon cheeseburger. Great service too. I caught a little bit of the World/Inferno Friendship Society, didn't do much for me but they were trying their best. On to The Revivalists for one of my favorite sets of the weekend. Much, much bigger crowd than they had at Voodoo last year. David Shaw was all over the stage and in the crowd, ripping rocking groovy jams throughout. Then Trombone Shorty who melted faces, and of course Foo's who were perfect.
The set that gave me the most joy the whole weekend was Slayer.
BUT, I hold to my statement that after 16 years Voodoo needs to get their fucking shit together. Some people waited in line three fucking hours on Friday. When the line is stretching back that long you need to admit the scanners aren't working and just start visually checking wristbands. I've been coming to voodoo since 2008, and have NEVER waited in a line to get in, its always just flowing straight through even with the draconian bag checks of yesteryear. Again, I had LOA so was lucky to get in with almost zero line, even so we had maybe 4 people in front of us and it still took ten minutes. And sound issues on the main stage, jesus christ.
And if I could needlessly bitch again about shrinking the LOA front row at the main stage. Just tear down those stupid cargo things. Inside of them you can't see shit, on top of them you can't see shit unless you are on the rail. Also lines for the men's restrooms in LOA all weekend. Definitely wasn't an issue last year, I think we had portlets in addition to the trailers. It just disappoints me not only to see the same bullshit issues Voodoo has had for years (sound issues), but to actually see regression in areas they'd previously improved in.
Next year I might just go get crunchy at Hulaween, or save my vacation time and money for brrr creek. again sorry for hatin', we did have a fun weekend.
We were at Atchafalaya on Saturday morning, too. And yeah, Voodoo's always a fun fest, but it certainly does feel like amateur hour for a fest that's been around that long in basically the same location. Was considering LOA on the 2015 presale, but went GA again.
Had a fantastic time at Voodoo this year, def more fun than last year. LOA is the only way to go for me. No line to get in, clean AC to drop a deuce in if needed, and you can get to the front at most acts that aren't headliners.
Complaints- The size of LOA was def bullshit this year. During Outkast and Foo Fighters (I came in as the shows were starting) you couldn't even get into the pit. If you are gonna have a VIP area, everyone in VIP needs to be able to get in there. You couldn't get on the cargo containers either because of a capacity on the amount of people up there.
-The sound for Outkast was pretty bad. You couldn't really hear it in the back of the GA crowd. The high wind def played a factor but I mean, sch'mon, it's a hipho p show there needs to be loud bass.
-Teenagers. I wasn't surprised by the amount of underage people running free, but they sure were annoying.
Notes: -It was nice meeting you Esteban! -Unlimited carnival rides with VIP is the shit. I got about $150 worth of Bumper Cars and Ferris Wheel during the fest. -Free massages in VIP were crucial. I got one every day.
Highlites: 1. SLAYER- Was about 10 rows back center in the LOA. Wow. That bass was amazing. The drummer wasn't as good as Dave Lombardo but I def wasn't expecting him to be. The highlight of the fest for me, from a Schadenfreude perspective, was seeing the people in the GA very front center of the pit who were clearly waiting to be up front for Outkast having to absolutely suffer through Slayer. People covering their ears the entire time, people closing their eyes to avoid the imagery and evilness of the band. lololol
2. The London Souls- Couldn't get in Foo Fighter put easily so I split and checked other stuff out. Wow. These guys are f'n amazing. I knew about them but hadn't heard them. Really impressive.
3. Big Freedia- Riding around in Bumper Cars over and over during this set was epic fun.
4. Death From Above 1979- Had been waiting like 10 years to see these guys, they did not disappoint.
5. Gogol Bordello- Ended up on the rail for this one, they were amazing as usual. Left to go get back on the bumper cars. Good call.
6. Pretty Lights Live Band- Glad I went to check this out. Was refreshing to hear EDM with live instruments. Light show was nuts, as well.
7. Foo Fighters- Only caught about a 3rd of the set, came into the LOA pit during Breakdown. Great time, loved the Trombone Shorty guest spot.
8. The Melvins- Got there during a cover of the Butthole Surfers "Moving to Florida", which was f'n badass. Really enjoyed this set .Also ended up on the rail, never been that close for the Melvins.
9. Red Baraat- I love these guys, they always kill it.
10. Benjamin Booker- Didn't check out as much of his set as I should have, but I enjoyed what I saw.
Non-fest highlites- -House of Shock was absolutely epic, so glad we went to that. My mind was def warped by it.
-Oteil, Johnny V and Nicholas Payton @ the Maple Leaf. AMAZING night of jazz music.
-MOMs Ball- Had never been to a Moms function before. Def the coolest Halloween party I've ever been to. Amazing costumes everywhere, and Kung Fu killed it, as usual. Definitely going to try to make it to the MOMs Mardi Gras bar next year.
-Lunch at the Velvet Cactus on Sunday. Man, those maragaritas are strong. Got day drunk by accident.
-Monsters of Funk II- Wow, this was a serious funk party. Got super schwilled and had a total blast, amazing two sets of totally different musicians.
1. Foo Fighters 2. Outkast 3. Naughty Professor 4. Gogol Bordello 5. Slayer 6. John Butler Trio 7. Revivalists 8. DFA 1979 9. Twenty One Pilots 10. Fuel
Rise Against was the only show I saw that I didn't enjoy. But it was certainly worth my prime spot for Slayer and Outkast!
I'm not sure I'll ever do LOA. I had a great spot for every show (usually within 10 rows of the rail), had no issues with the bathrooms, never waited in an ungodly line to get in (no bag line was fast), and didn't really have any interest in the rides when there was music happening. The only thing that made me jealous was the food in LOA.
top 5 sets: 1. Slayer 2. Melvins (and I missed the first 4 songs because I watched all of Slayer from pit) 3. Arctic Monkeys 4. Foo Fighters 5. DFA 1979
For me, Outkast was boring in comparison to their set at Hangout. Maybe that was because I had just gotten my face melted off back to back by Slayer and Melvins which cause me to have to watch Outkast from on top of the LOA blocks instead of the pit. But even up there, I had a great view of the crowd and they just weren't in to it as much as the hangout crowd was. But performance wise, I just got the impression that they were ready to get that shit over with. Perhaps some of this was because of that cold ass wind blowing across us. That wind was worse than it was during Soundgarden in 2011.
I was not expecting Arctic Monkeys to be that good live. respect.
Bugging and Jonesing for just a little more. I did a quick scope out of YouTube. There was a pro shot full set of the Arctic Monkeys. There is a ton of FF and Outkast. While a little fuzzy, there is a kick ass version of Yellow Bird. Damn. I hated only being able to see 5 minutes of Pretty Lights, but against Foo Fighters, it just had to be that way. I shot nothing at all except about 10 seconds of DFA to settle an argument that they were soft, which of course they were not. Need more live rock.
I was really disappointed with the sound issues, particularly during Outkast. Andre 3000 is a flawless human being.

100% agree with all of this!
On Friday we arrived and parked fairly easily after a morning in the Quarter. We walked up and saw the crazy ass line and then my husband went to talk to Molly Cozad (Access coordinator) and she pointed us toward the Access entrance which was unmarked/hidden that day. I honestly felt sorry for anyone who had to wait on that line on day one. After we arrived it took us forever to find the bathrooms which were also unmarked on day one. After we found them we settled in for some music at the Carnival stage. That night we nearly froze to death but Outkast was great even though I think there were some problems with Andre3k's mic.
Saturday was just okay for me. Lines were better, we prepared better for the cold and all the bands we saw were pretty good. I used to work for some music venues in Portland, ME and 30STM came to town often so Saturday was maybe the 8th or 9th time I have seen them and I was reminded that while they're not one of my favorites they do always put on a good show and give it their all. AM were great too. They're one of those bands that sounds just as good, if not better live and I really appreciate that.
Sunday was the best day...just AMAZING really. I don't know how I could have had a better time and it really made me want to come back again in 2015. Great food, drinks, music and crowds. I bought tickets to Voodoo for two reasons: Outkast and Foo Fighters. While Outkast was great and I love that I got to see their final anniversary tour stop I was just blown away by Dave Grohl and the boys and it seemed like nobody was going home disappointed that night. All in all it was a wonderful weekend and I may even feel comfortable bringing my kiddos with me next year since it seemed like a really family friendly fest. Tons of kids running around and rocking out with their families.
Oh, another thing! I won two tickets to see JohnnySwim on December 5th from the House of Blues tent and I wont be able to go so if anyone in NOLA wants them let me know in a PM.

That's awesome. I know I'm a homer, but the best Voodoo days are pretty much as good as anything. I think kids up to 10 or so are free admission. It's somewhat unfortunate, as Jabco and Postjack pointed out, that there are any issues at all at this point. But Voodoo always has a quirk or two. Perhaps it's partly the settling into the new fest grounds or whatever. It's been completely rearranged for the last 3 fests (last 2 being in the new area and way different). Personally, since I saw so much great shit, I missed the Friday lines, and I didn't really have any other issues, my biggest complaint would probably be being to late to see Naughty Professor and the Pretty Lights Foo Fighters conflict.
Were you kind of around by Soul Rebels? Someone who looks like the girl in your avatar was sort of near me. I ended up seeing Longinus in his King Diamond costume and I think I saw Kev Bot by him in the Waldo costume, and I apologize for the oversight of not personally meeting. I had the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown sheet which ended up being a pretty big mistake due to the wind on Friday.

I was passing by Soul Rebels to check out Wild Cub so you may have spotted me. I was wearing a Batgirl costume. Also, had no idea kevbot was the Waldo. I saw two male Waldos over the weekend and two or three female Waldos.
Word. Sorry I didn't get to say hey. Hopefully the rest of y'all's stay was also good.
So one of my kids said Flux and Skrillex played possibly past dawn at Dragons Den for like 10 dollars. Damn. I was tired Sat night, and needed that extra hour of standard time to sleep I guess. They ended up at R3hab who they said was pretty decent.
3. Big Freedia- Riding around in Bumper Cars over and over during this set was epic fun.
This fucking rolls me to no end. I can actually see smashing the shit out of someone else or driving/shaking to the bounce beat. Voodoo and Buku Freedia shows were both money. So it's a year away but with new albums out, RHCP, Tool and maybe Eminem? Likely to see Calvin Harris back if he doesn't play Buku. Maybe STS9, Lips or Imagine Dragons sub? Gramatik is due back, so he could be either/or/both Voodoo Buku. Maybe Diplo? Don't know if it's reliable but some dude said Doctor P and Porter Robinson will be at Buku (thinking they might bring in Zoogma, Papadosio and STS9 on the band side). Porter was actually my favorite DJ set at Hangout 13. Fwiw Buku is through the roof in cost for a 2 day set even still for advance. It's around 180 GA and 360 VIP which seems really high for early birds. Theories are either they realize how much they can get away with charging or they are going to/having to open up the purse strings. I think they usually drop their initial lineup first or second week in December. Glad we grabbed presale VIP when it was cheap. I hope they give free drinks with VIP this year.

Another eventful Voodoo in the bag. Ticket already purchased for next year, though like many of you, I may consider Hulaween if the lineup looks like it did this year. Some great sets though. I personally thought Outkast was better than Hangout, but might have just been me (felt like they were like a well-oiled machine)... I guess I was in the prefect spot to not experience too many sound issues, the crowd around me was pretty awesome, and the whole setup and band was a lot cooler... No Killer Mike tho That wind was reminiscent of Soundgarden to me too (still one of my favorite Voodoo sets).
Beyond that, Arctic Monkeys were killer, the hour and half I caught of Foo was awesome, Slayer, the Melvins, and Pretty Lights were all worth mentioning... I was gonna spend all my time at Foo, but I hadn't seen the PL live band and Derek's been living in NOLA so I wanted to check it out... that Nas verse on yellowbird was unreal...the vids of Shorty with Foo look dope too. Didn't get to any afterparties as One Eyed Jacks was at capacity on Saturday... Though I heard it was pretty rad and Win Butler ended up djing and passing out shots at the end.
Fortunately I got there early enough Friday and they let us through the LOA entrance after my brother picked up some free tix from Will Call. I did hear some absolutely horrible stories... FFF Fest experienced something similar yesterday and I wanted to go to that over Voodoo so bad (too bad LSU games run fucking Baton Rouge). Other than that, same Voodoo logistic problems every year. I've come to expect it; I know nothing compares to Bonnaroo.
...But does anybody realize that Voodoo's new website looks like some electronic bullshit like Ultra? I hate that they keep spending more and more on the untz so the undercard gets weaker... Not that I don't like electronic music, I just don't like it at the expense of good shows elsewhere. At least they moved Le Plur far enough this year, but the Mainstage kinda drowned Flambeau like Le Plur did in 2013. Gonna try VIP this year for Buku. I know its more expensive, but I think the lineup's pretty nice every year. Where else do you get the Lips, Beats Antique, Nas, Pusha T, Bone Thugs, Conspirator, Lotus with all the EDM. Shit the year before had Primus, Big G, alt-J, Sound Tribe, Kendrick, and a buncha other nice gets. C3 knows how to books some acts... However, with Live Nation buying them out, I only hope Buku doesn't degrade like Voodoo has in the two years since they bought Rehage. Live Nation seriously blows tho.
Wish I could do Bear Creek or even Primus on the 14th in Biloxi... But I guess I'm being nice to my wallet till Meth and Red on the 18th w/ B-Real.
