Farrell could be awesome as long as they don't try to make a new version of Rust Cohle. I'd like him to be one of the main guys.
That is part of my anxiety of the second season in keeping it close to why people enjoyed it in the first season without making it a carbon copy of the first season.
Could they have picked a goofier photo of Colin Farrell? I'm already on the fence about him ruining this, jeez guys.
Colin Farrell never ended up being a great leading man or action star but if you watch 'In Bruges' you might be more optimistic. He played a sarcastic and depressed person better than anyone I can think of at the moment. Also an awesome movie in general for anyone who likes dark/black comedy. Tremendous movie for quoting with your friends. He won the Golden Globe for it. If he has a role with those character traits, I would be very excited. As much as I would like everyone from FNL to be in everything, Taylor Kitsch is not a good actor. Shit, he was out-acted by Blake Lively in Savages. Yuck.
I was a huge True Detective fan while it was going on but it hasn't really entered my thoughts after it ended. It was a great season without question but I might be in the small minority that thinks Fargo was the better one season, one cast show.
That's funny, I just looked through his IMDB catalog and realized I have not seen a movie with him in it and was going to ask if there's something to make me feel better. Thanks for the suggestion, if it's on Netflix or Amazon I'll watch it soon!
Add Taylor Kitsch to the rumor mill. He was in Friday Night Lights and Lone Survivor.

What do you have against Farrell? He was fantastic in In Bruges, Seven Psychopaths, and Horrible Bosses . I've even got a soft spot for him for Minority Report and The Recruit.
Edit: I see by your other posts you may check out In Bruges. Definitely do that. Also don't miss Seven Psychopaths if you haven't seen that yet.

You haters would have probably said the same thing about McConaughey five years ago.
Farrell would be a great choice, and this would be huge for his career. He's so good in those two McDonagh movies, but he's still carrying a lot of baggage from before.

You're one of the few people who seem to have their head screwed on straight here lately and I respect your opinion, but I'll disagree with you here. True Detective is the ONLY show I've thought about over the last two years long after it was over.

You're normally a huge asshole, and you have shitty music taste, but I think you're 100% right here.
So for those of you who are worried about who is going to play the four roles in Season Two - think about this: with the right writing, direction, scenery and cinematography, almost anyone can be an actor worthy of watching. Think about the number of Oscar or GG nominated actors who have either done nothing prior to or nothing since X or Y but were perfect in that one thing. That's what I think is going to happen in TD, Season #2. Remember, Sylvester Stallone has an Oscar nomination for acting and no one thought it was ridiculous back when Rocky came out.

I get that on a visceral level - but think about how many "shitty" actors who were given that great role and then they were thrust into the award-nominated pantheon.
Everyone talks about Matty Mac as the former Rom Com doofus who is now getting kudos, but you kids may be too young too remember at one point Woody H was seen as the dumb farmer bartender who shouldn't be taken seriously beyond Coach's replacement on Cheers. Or how Marisa Tomei was a joke awarded an Oscar wrongfully until we watched her in In The Bedroom or The Wrestler. I think this has the potential to thrust Colin into Woody and Matty Mac territory.

i guess to me the difference between all those people and colin farrell is that they all began as comedic actors. which IMO is much harder to be good at than someone who does just drama. (and i remember cheers!)
i think colin is very good looking. when he opens his mouth he ruins it for me. i got to see him in person at comic con at the panel for the total recall remake movie and i wasn't too impressed there either. to me, he seems to have jumped all over place in his career..action, drama, romance, comedy. but what is he really good at?
I've enjoyed Farrel in a handful of things, never considered him a "really good" actor, but I think he's more than capable of being carried (or directed) to that level.

Exactly. Before Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston was "the dad from Malcolm In The Middle". Robin Wright was "Jennay" before House Of Cards. The list goes on and on. More than anything though, I refuse to believe season 2 will suck.

I seriously laughed out loud at her getting Oscar buzz. Then, I saw Precious. I still can't guarantee 100% that I won't punch her in the face if I saw her in real life.
oh yeah! and what happened to the idea of a female lead.
The consistent rumor regarding season two is that it will have three central characters. There is nothing to say that one (or two since the second casting rumor seems less definite than Farrell) of the other lead characters will be female. Secondary to that, there's a thousand reasons that the narrative could have been changed in the course of the writing process. Palazzo could have had every intention of making a female lead, but the story took it in a different direction. History is full of stories that ended up very different from the place they started out at. Jessica Chastain was that big rumor for a while. Assuming any part of that is true, Palazzo could have had her in mind for a role, and when she turned it down, he might have rewrote some things if they couldn't decide on anyone who was a suitable replacement for her.
