IMDB is notoriously unreliable when it comes to TV shows. People troll the pages all the time. Game of Thrones fans know a great example of that.
You need to check the actor's CV or casting agency info. Even then it's usually just listed by the show name and directors they worked with on it, which might not give you the full picture.
I figured out the fate of Ray Velcoro because of the preview for next week as well as some other promos/trailers for this season of True Detective that air before other shows on HBO. Don't watch the previews if you want hints (seriously....one line from it confirmed what I was thinking).
Haven't seen any of that stuff. I like to watch this show blind. I'm assuming it was rock salt shells.
Nah.....he's a closeted/repressed gay dude. Although, I did sense some incest vibes from the mother. It's all in the dialogue though. She tells him not to call him "Ma" because of it being "too late to start that stuff now". Part of me thinks he found his real mom late in life (either after being left for adoption or just taken by social services) and that's part of the reason why she's so against being known as his mom but also so into touching/rubbing up on him. She also snapped when he'd mention being busy and she didn't hide the contempt for other women that her son may be seeing. She was definitely giving off a creepy feeling though.
He's gay but he doesn't want to be/thinks it's wrong. Seems that way, anyway.
I'm thinking Momma Riggins wasn't around during his childhood because she is an addict. He likely raised himself early in life and she was off doing God knows what. Would explain why she has an creepy physical relationship with him and why it's "too late" for the "Mom" stuff. Would also explain why she got angry at the suggestion she start working again.
And he's definitely gay.
Thank you! Man, these wierdo's going straight incest over some awkward scene between a mother and son. Buncha freaks.
Also, this show makes me want to upgrade my soundbar. Found the first two episodes reeeaaallly slow, with just enough intrigue to keep me hooked (up until the last scene of Ep2 of course), but I remember season 1 starting slow, do wasn't worried nor surprised by about the latest episode. People who browse "Recent Posts" should be cast out on the great northern ice flows, as us Canadians do with useless members of our society. And Vince was much better in all forms this episode, I have some things to say about the opening scenes, but I won't use spoiler tag, so I'll just wait till tomorrow to talk about it.
The fight could be left up for debate. Regardless of how you have felt about the job they have done putting it out there, they've dropped a lot of breadcrumbs that Frank was quite the hardass in his day who has since turned legit. People only forget so much of stuff like that. Add to that, he was fighting a guy who could generously be called "out of shape" who thought he could showboat his way to the victory, and I think it's very possible that Frank kicks his ass. If Frank had fought the guy in the A-shirt with the shaved head and trounced him, we would be having a very different discussion.
This was actually the first time I got a little bit of machismo fatigue watching the show. Strangely its because there are literally too many limp penises. Macho guy freaking out about not being able to get an erection, macho guy freaking out because only men give him an erection, etc.
Far and away the most interesting aspect of the show to me is McAdam's and Farrell's chemistry. I think there is zero romance there but I do think there is something inside each of them that could help the other. Colin Farrell's character is still my favorite, the guy just breaks my heart.
It only took a dream sequence with a Conway Twitty impersonator for this season to win my eternal love.
Is it weird that Vince's shady bar is my ideal hangout and concert venue? Great bill so far every episode.
Lera Lynn, the girl who was singing there in the first two episodes, is actually really good if you're into that stuff. She had the song in the original trailer for the season and I was bummed when they didn't use it for the theme song, but I get excited every time they have her playing. Check out her album The Avenues. Also her cover of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire"

Agreed, she's good. I caught her as an opening act for Josh Ritter about 3 or 4 years ago and have been following her ever since...nice to see her get a cool break like this.
Also, she did this cool cover of "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" at Athfest a while back with a storm rolling in. Stay until the end for possibly the best timed thunder clap ever.

I want that venue, too. The girl singing, the singalong in Ray's dream.....everything about that place seems like I'd spend every night there for hours.

Love the cover and that thunder clap was amazing. The band's reactions to it are great
Finally watched the first three episodes! I have to put on subtitles because I can't follow otherwise. I'lll watch the rest of the season but, like others have said, this season just hasn't grabbed me. Having to care about /follow four people takes a bit away from the character development we saw in season 1.

I think it was called "My Least Favorite Life." The stuff for the show was written by her, T Bone Burnett, and Rosanne Cash
