I hope they are wrong. But time will tell. American Horror isn't that great, these guys are doing some remarkable work in this series. Maybe they'll realize it's a mistake to have a totally different premise the next season, maybe not. We'll see.
Orrrrr maybe they'll do a 100% better job of it, because HBO kicks ass at almost all of their original series?
Equally plausible.
I like series where I really get into the characters. Mrs. Memphis watches American Horror. But even she admitted the last season wasn't as good as the first or the current. HBO does do a good job with series. I hated when bored to death ended though.

I think the anthology approach is great for television. It allows stories to not become so predictable. If the story is limited to one season you don't have to look for ways to come up with twists to keep it going and can have a conclusion if you choose. Characters are disposable, and things don't become strung out and boring.
I just hold of a tv and hooked it up after a few weeks of being without. This definitely is on my must-watch list. Guess I'll go to HBO go and catch up. Matthew McConaughey is one of those rare actors who I don't care if he can act. He's serious eye candy to me.
This show just went to another level after tonight's episode. I think I'm in love.
I done been in love.
I've been longing for the feeling that Breaking Bad had me feel once upon a time. I thought this show was pretty fucking good in its first 3 weeks...but jesus, this episode had me feeling like Tuco after a taste of Walter White's concoction. TIGHT TIGHT TIGHT!!! But for real, this episode had me wired.

They really packed the action into that episode. Both detectives had some major emotional setbacks and Cole looks to be heading towards the meltdown that may have lead him to his present state of character 10 years later.
Last night Cole mentioned that this all happened 17 years ago, which from the present say would be 1996/7. That seems to fit although my impression was that the flash backs were earlier. Cole also made a reference to Mogadishu (1993) which just seemed out of place given he was doing lots of drugs with a roomful of bikers at the time. I didn't think that event was commonplace enough for that situation ("one road in and out").

The flashbacks are set in 1995. So the reference wouldn't be out of place. I think it's placement was to show Cohle as an intellectual among the biker gang.
I actually forgot in my last post that the original case investigation was taking place in the mid 90's and not the early 2000's. Learning that Ledoux is a meth cook explains the has mask in the flash forwards. Also, I can't remember the details now, but the preview for next week made it seem like Cohle is under suspicion in present time. These final three episodes should be great. I hate that it has to end.

I didn't mean out of place time wise, I meant out of place in that his audience probably wouldn't know what the fuck he was talking about. Maybe I'm wrong though.
I doubt he cared whether the bikers got the reference or not. It was more of his thought about the upcoming ordeal spoken aloud.
I dunno, I'd think trying to blend in with a group of notoriously violent bikers would have been a priority for him in that situation. It was really just the first case of a writing snafu I've noticed so far. He probably shoulda gone with "turkey shoot" or something
He was already missing the shaggy beard and long hair/shaved head. I don't know what these guys conversations were like in their past encounters. Cohle seems to be a bird of a different feather no matter what crowd he is in. Anyhow, awesome end to the show. Loved the way he just started kicking ass when things turned bad and made sure to drag the one guy that would give him a chance at finding his suspect out alive with him.

Just FYI - the interviews take place in 2012; I believe Cohle's interview was May 26, 2012 and Hart's was June 1, 2012.

Was that referenced in the show and I missed it?
They show the dates the very first time they show either character in the interviews, along with their names and the location of the interviews. You can go back and watch the first few minutes of the first episode if you'd like to see for yourself!
The best single shot extended action sequence since Children Of Men. I'm sure there have been others that were better, but that's the last great one that comes to mind.

I would venture that there is a decent amount of ex-military representation in biker gangs that would possibly follow such things closer than the average public. Also, it may have just been an example of them going along with something that Rust said just because they didn't want to look dumb. As evidenced by the last bit of this episode, he proves to be much more capable than them when it comes to violence. Lastly, the bikers proved throughout the episode to be dumber than a bag of hammers.
Side note: if you want to talk about anachronisms, did nobody else see the spirit hood in the rave scene?
In all seriousness, Animal hats have been around since the early nineties, but I didn't see the specific one you guys are talking about. If it was a brand-new-style-hood, then forgive me.

Not sure if you're a fan of his skills(acting) or not but McConaughey has been moving up the list of great actors at a rapid pace.

I've just gotten caught up on this and I've got to say it's the best thing on TV by a bunch. Both of these guys have really stepped up their games another level as far as character acting goes. They're setting the bar pretty high with regard to what season two will have to produce for people to keep feeling good about the actors changing seasonally. Assuming people feel good about that in the first place.

This show has definitely moved to the top of my list for TV shows. Matt and Woody are two of my favorite actors so it didn't take much for me to get into this masterpiece. As if the first three episodes weren't enough, the fourth episode made me feel like I just slurped down a ball. That was some intense shit! I felt like a tweeker after that, amped the fuck up! I can't wait to see what's in store for the future of this great show.
