I just hold of a tv and hooked it up after a few weeks of being without. This definitely is on my must-watch list. Guess I'll go to HBO go and catch up. Matthew McConaughey is one of those rare actors who I don't care if he can act. He's serious eye candy to me.
Not sure if you're a fan of his skills(acting) or not but McConaughey has been moving up the list of great actors at a rapid pace.
He is a good actor, but was cast in a lot of silly roles because people saw him as "eye candy".
He lost a lot of mass for this series, a do it looks like Harrelson gained a lot. I wouldn't call them eye candy, especially the older Cohle. If all you want is magic mike, this isn't the series for you

I think of acting as your overall appearance, every detail is important. This is partially why people like Arnold or the Rock will never be great actors. Look at some of the greats who have changed body types to fit certain roles, De Niro, Hanks, and Bale to name a few. I think McConaughey lost weight for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, it'd be hard to sell a buff healthy looking dude having AIDS/HIV. Personally I like that Mathew is open to "silly roles", a lot of good/great actors do this. One example comes to mind with Robert Downey Jr., playing Thornton Melon's(Rodney Dangerfield), sons, roommate in the classic "Back To School". He wasn't the star or anything but it was a silly role.
For Heaven's sake, this show is just getting better and better. I can't really tell where it's going to end up at this point. One thing is for sure though, I'm a goner. It's been fun, inforoo. Be nice to one another.

If this keeps building and finishes right it could be the best season in TV history. Its so awesome. Also think Cary and Nic deserve a special oscar or something, this is on par with top films
I definitely don't think Rust is the Yellow King. I'm thinking it could be the reverend from episode 2 that showed up with the anti-Christian crime task force (was that Tuttle, the guy that Brother Mouzone said was murdered in 2010, insinuating that Rust killed him because he thought he was the Yellow King?)

It seems like they are building up to Tuttle being the Yellow King, but that begs the question "How are the murders still happening if Rust "killed" him in 2010?"

I missed you saying this, I agree
I know that dude has something if not alot to do with it, but I think his death rules him out as being the main killer.
Also interesting is all this stuff coming out now about "The King in Yellow" and other short horror stories. Apparently long story short when someone reads the script for this play, the reader ends up going crazy.
That the state politicians are all part of this cult and cover it up on multiple levels. The traveling tent with Nucky's brother is just a means to scope out weak victims. The school maybe was used as their place to practice after the first church burnt down hence the Devil twig triangles all over it.
I think Rust has been obsessing about The Yellow King for all the time he has been "off the grid". He uncovered some serious intel that the younger detectives have yet to uncover. Thats why he was at the crime scene 5 times before the murder even took place. He found the pattern in the "flat circle" and investigated. But apparently he ran out of time before he could catch the guy/people.
Rust's storage shed is just loaded with said intel and maps and pictures of all the murders. Its his own little office.

Ya this is along the lines of what Ive been thinking.
Rust has been undercover this whole time. Marty's shock at the present-day detectives accusing Rust of all the murders was his realization that maybe Rust actually HAS been right all along and this cult thing has some very influential members who are working to stop Rust. No doubt the 'cult task force' who tried to take over at the beginning has something to do with this.
My guess is that Tuttle is the Yellow King. I also believe Marty's father-in-law is in on it somehow (consider how wealthy he is and some other comments he has made throughout), and he has something to do with the eldest daughter becoming "varsity slut" (along with the sexual drawings she made and all that) (maybe he sexually assaulted her?). They're definitely prepping her to become a victim at some point.
Also Tuttle has a yellow tie on in the preview for next week, though that could be a bit of a stretch.

bansheebeat Im a little confused on Marty's father in law. All I seem to remember of him is 1)Them talking at the weekend get together at their house while the kids were on the lake in the boat and 2) When Marty called him to see if his wife was there after she left him. Am I missing something?

The first paragraph of your theory is totally insane but I agree with the second and third paragraph.

Well when Marty and the father-in-law first discuss it he asks Marty about it pretty directly and states that "people should mind their own business". And he generally just acted unsympathetic (which admittedly could be a red-herring).
Also, while in the canoe the younger sibling says something to Madison about "asking grandpa" and Madison quickly says "no" and seems pretty frightened.
I don't think that the two current detectives are covering up as much as they are just investigating the most likely alternative from their vantage point. If you look at it from their perspective, Rust is a pretty good suspect. He came to Louisiana when things went real wrong on Texas. He has a drug and alcohol problem. He spouts all sorts of crazy (from their perspective) crap about flat time circles and satanic cults. Why would they look deeper when an obvious solution is right in front of them? The series has kind of reinforced throughout that Rust is a next level kind of detective whereas Marty and the others were rank and file.
I agree with not thinking Rust is the Yellow King. It appears like he just went off the deep end with the investigation. He has done more and more off the books as we have progressed through the season, and he probably hit a point where he came to the conclusion that it would be easier to do it off the books altogether. I think his current persona even falls in with that. A burnt out ex-cop who bartends and lives by himself is something that most people won't look into. Unfortunately for him, he got caught at the scenes.
I'm just remembering the scene now with the daughters in their bedroom with the dolls in a circle and one doll smack dab in the middle, facedown and naked (if memory serves me right). You're definitely onto something.
I am sufficiently unnerved for the rest of the day.
