Could this be the year of LN What? I don't see where Phoenix and Skrillex fit into the schedule except for LN What
Skrillex totally can and has played in the day light. I don't know what he's rocking these days, but in 2012 he had two stage setups: the space ship that you saw at Roo that was meant for night sets; then he had a rig that I saw him use a few weeks later at Camp Bisco that was meant for the daylight. It was basically his logo actually lit on fire for the whole set with a ton of pyro going off in the forefront during the drops. So basically pyro instead of lasers. Here's a picture of it:
I see him playing the what stage right before Kanye. That way he gets partial darkness and plays on the big stage.

i think umphreys gets a day or evening set. like we were talking about a month or so ago, maybe the conspirator slot.
i agree the kaskade conundrum is tricky. really hard to fit him LN which, and him in a tent at any time would be a disaster. maybe he could do a shorter LN which set followed by another LN which act? Has that ever been done? or he could take the pre-HL slot on which, but again there are so many other bands that could play that slot.

There's a good chance Skrillex will play a LN What. I don't see Phoenix doing LN What, but LN Which makes butt-tons of sense. Flaming Lips will play a sunset set on the What or Which stage -- most likely Which. They did a big late night set a couple years ago, but I don't see them doing one again right away. Bonnaroo likes to vary their acts/scheduling a bit, and a preheadline slot isn't exactly a step down. They're not exactly moving up, but that's fine. It's too easy to assume the LN Which just because they've done it before. But I doubt it.
I do not know Kaskade that well, but do not count on a LN Which. It could happen, but they could just as also pack him into a tent and let someone else -- Arctic Monkeys, Frank Ocean, or shit, the Flaming Lips -- have that slot. Right now I would bet Arctic Monkeys and Frank Ocean are just as likely as Kaskade to land it.
And no, I do not expect to see 4 LN stage headliners. :_(
TLDR We'll have Frank Ocean (or AM or Kaskade or somebody) Which and Skrillex What one night, Phoenix Which the other night.
PS I think the Skrillex Superjam will take place on one of the stages in a preheadliner spot, on the same day as his LN solo set. This approach makes more sense than A.) Making Skrillex play 5 hours in a row one night or B.) Making him play two separate days.
Oh, and never forget that at least one LN act probably hasn't been announced, and at least one is someone we will not anticipate. Bring on the GNR cover bands
Everyone is in agreement that LN Which will be Skrillex and Flips, right?
You know, I think this is the year that the Flips don't get the late night. In 2007, they had their special UFO lighting rig, and it was their first "big stage" show at the festival. 2010 was another special occasion in that they had the DSotM set.
I could see them in a 9:00PM-10:30PM Which slot, possibly on the same night he does the Superjam (if he does it).
Anyway, my completely uneducated guesses are as follows:
FRIDAY: Which: Cut Copy (The xx spot--semi-latenight) > Kaskade (LN) This: Dr. Dog > Mastodon That: Skrillex Superjam > Disclosure Other: Chance the Rapper > Ice Cube
SATURDAY: Which: The Flaming Lips (Which HL) > Skrillex (LN) This: Flaming Lips/Ben Folds Superjam > Die Antwoord That: Robert DeLong > A Tribe Called Red Other: Omar Souleyman > Zedd
Music Midtown: 2011 Bonnaroo: 2012 - 2016 Forecastle: 2013 Rock al Parque: 2014 420 Fest: 2014-2018 Shaky Knees: 2015 - 2019, 2021 Seen tons of local shows since 2004.
I really don't see Ice Cube being a LN set, I think he's gonna be in the Nas spot on the What from last year. He's getting old now so he'll probably be in bed during the LN shows. Also it seems like the Skrillex superjam will be Friday, the ? Superjam Saturday, and the Ed Helms bluegrass again on Sunday. Then Skrillex would play a reg set LN Saturday on the What after Kanye. The Flips are a lock for a LN Which and I'd assume the same for Umphreys.

You mean after Jack White? If so, yeah I agree (Saturday).
I don't think Skrillex can do his main set and his superjam on the same day without daylight being involved. If they're banking on Wayne to do the Superjam due to "Jack White seeing his shadow and not wanting to do a Superjam" or whatever, he'll probably want to do all of that on the same day, which would facilitate a slightly earlier FLips set so the Superjam would be late night. Of course, if Jack wanted to do the superjam he'd just hop over after his headlining set as well. For that reason I think they'll schedule it all like that.
You may be right about Ice Cube, I was just thinking about how there's usually a legacy late night hip-hop act. In 2012 we had Mos Def on Friday and GZA on Saturday. And last year we had the hip-hop Superjam.

I'm gonna guess Ice Cube is going to close a tent. I doubt it'll be as packed as Luda was.

Saw they weren't listed in the bluegrass tent what do you guys think about a Yonder sunrise set. One of my favorite sets from last year was them playing an awesome five hour set at Pisgah Brewing Company's outdoor stage. Would be a nice way to end a night.
Has Omar Souleyman been mentioned? We stumbled upon Omar's late night set in 11... Dust everywhere, hippies dancing, Omar's random "Hey's". What a set it was.

Couple things :
1. There were only 14 late-night sets in 2013 and 2012. So there will only be 14( 2 on the Which Friday, leaving a tent empty from 2am, like Hip-Hop SuperJam - The xx/ Pretty Lights last year).
2. Pretty Lights was the CENTER of the Hip -Hop SuperJam(in the This Tent), then went on to do an all-night set on the Which last year. That's what will happen with Skrillex this year.
Fri-
Which : Kascade(11:30pm-1am) < Skrillex ( 2:30am- ?) This : Skrillex SuperJam ( Midnight - 2am) That: YMSB (Mid-2am) < Umps (230am- ?) Other : Die Antwood (1130pm-1am) < Wiz ( 1:30am -3am)
Skrillex and Umps(w some help from YMSB, like Big Gigantic last year) will do sunrise sets on Friday......

It's a little reductive to say 'it happened this way before, so it will happen this way again'. You can say that it might happen that way again, but I wouldn't let it guide your reasoning all the way to the point of *will*.
Skrillex could play from 12am till sunrise. I don't think that will happen, but it's a possibility.
Flaming Lips could do another big latenight set. But that would be the 2nd time in three years, and I think Bonnaroo likes to keep the fest varied enough that they won't do that. Flaming Lips would be a great Which closer one day, though, and there are other rock bands (Phoenix, Arctic Monkeys) that could put on a hell of a show in that spot.
And I can't say for sure, but I think Skrillex on the what makes a lot of sense this year.
And for whatever reason, I think Kaskade is gonna end up in an insanely packed tent while someone else plays the Which stage. So, my LN-in-brief:
Phoenix, Frank Ocean or Arctic Monkeys begin on the Which stage immediately after Kanye As they wind down--or just an hour after Kanye ends--Skrillex begins on What On Saturday, Phoenix, Frank Ocean, or the Arctic Monkeys will play the Which Stage.
LN Tent Acts: Kaskade Disclosure Zedd Umphrey's Darkstar Yonder Mountain Wiz Khalifa Danny Brown Chromeo or Broken Bells Cut Copy or James Blake One act that hasn't been announced One act that nobody expects, and which might or might not make sense
The schedule isn't even out yet and I am already feeling sad about all the late night conflicts I know I am going to have. Comes with the territory of a stacked lineup though I suppose.

I think if they put Skrillex on the What, which they should do and I'm hoping for, I think that opens up LN Which for Kaskade on 1 night, with either Phoenix, Arctic Monkeys, or Frank Ocean the other night. Even though this has never been done before it really seems to make the most sense otherwise Kaskade most likely will play in a very crowded tent, and Skrillex will play to a very packed Which. So really hoping they open up the What for late night Skrillex

I was just thinking this. There are so many acts that would be perfect for late night that I know it's going to provide some disappointment either due to conflicts or having someone like Disclosure do a mid-day set.
