I tried searching for this and nothing came up other than the 2013 thread. Even the Lolla board has virtually no activity under their ACL discussion subthread. I'm hoping to get some info on this fest. Looking back at their lineups, I've liked quite a bit of the bands on their cards. Hotels seem reasonable and I got free flights built up so all I'd be paying for is the tickets and booze/food while there. Never been to Texas and coming from Chicago in October, that'd be a nice breath of fresh warm air. I know Lolla's booking agent usually plans this fest too but given they usually don't have too much crossover, that could be a good thing this year. Anyone got some info? Rumors? Approx ticket on sale date? Do the tickets sell out as quick as Lolla? Crowd? Anything would help.
Also, I'm an idiot and spelled Austin wrong so if a Mod could just edit the thread title that'd be awesome. The browser I use at work is all messed up and I don't see an option for me to edit it.

I went last year and it was great minus the fact that torrential rains cancelled the last day of the fest. I don't really have much to compare it to (this year will be my first Roo), but the people were all pretty cool and what I imagine a Roo crowd to be like. Very open and friendly, like Austin itself. The lineup was pretty much a hodgepodge of every other fest. It's probably the closest to Bonnaroo overall. The first weekend last year sold out really fast, like Lollapalooza or Coachella, but the second weekend didn't sell out till the week of the fest.
Yeah looking back there seems to be some crossover but not a ton. So that could be an awesome thing. This would be 3rd fest out of 3 that Outkast will be at for me so let's just say I don't care if they're there. There's a good chance I won't see them at Lolla after seeing them at Hangout. I get the feeling they're gonna play virtually the same exact set.
So, are the Replacements a headliner? Or first undercard act?
I would say exactly the same as lolla considering they're both ran by the same people.
They are run by the same company, but ACL has an older crowd. Ten years older according to this, so while there will be a bit of overlap, you probably won't see that many of the younger skewing bands everyone's complaining about.

Does anyone who's gone to the fest over the years find there's any crossover with SXSW? With that also being in TX, I would assume there would be no repeat headliners.

Tickets typically sell out quick, same day. Last year was the first year they scheduled 2 weekends. The first weekend sold out quickly. The second weekend never did. The festival has had some rain/mud issues with Zilker Park. I don't know if that is why demand is so high for the first weekend because people want to have a better chance at a pristine park the first weekend or if the second weekend just feels anticlimactic. The festival grounds were 90% covered in about 3-4 inches of mud a few years back. Year of DMB and PJ. They had just laid new lawn down in the park a few months prior and we all found out the week following that the mud we were all stepping in was actually an excrement filler they used known as Dillo Dirt. Good times.
It is a great festival overall, my wife and I have gone the last 11 years. It is a much more enjoyable festival in October than it was in September.
i was there in 2011, it was my first ever festival and i cold not have had a better experience it was such a good time. none of the stages were over crowded so i got a good spot/good enough spot every time. friend of mine moved to Austin thats what got me there and im thinking of going back this year myself if i like the lineup. plus you cant beat a party on 6th street!

hahah im in the same boat with Hagnout and i expect at em Made In America this year. cant get enough outkast
Sounds like this festival would be perfect for me. Warm weather in shitty months of Chicago, solid bands, older crowd (though I'm 27 I hate these little kids that flock to these festivals and don't know any music and just wanna get fucked up), and it seems pretty well run too. Gonna plan for this, surprised there haven't been more rumors though. Early hopefuls-
Last year was the first year they had 2 headliners on Sunday like Lolla. I really liked having an option and hope they keep that format. In years past I would have been stuck with Lionel Richie, but instead we had the option to check out Atoms For Peace, thankfully.
It's a slightly older crowd, but it's not like the New Orleans Jazzfest. That has to be the oldest median age for the major music festivals by a wide margin.
So serious question, not that I'd get my hopes up anyway, but do you think this fest could possibly get an act like NIN or Tool? I know C3 has booked both before but not for this fest as far as I can tell. NIN did that Austin City Limits show at that small venue so idk if that rules them out or what but I'd flip sh*t if they pulled either of them.
Since NIN is doing a Texas run in August I would say they are more unlikely. Tool just played here last week, so I could see where they might headline. Neither are really in the festival's wheelhouse for acts, but they do book bands like QOTSA, Massive Attack and Chili Peppers so no reason to rule them out. They just always have a token old timer headliner, or two.
The Eagles also end their current tour dates on Oct. 4, allowing them to also be a Sunday headliner, though it isn't super likely. Do y'all think it could happen even though they just headlined in 2010?
Would they really book The Eagles and Fleetwood though? I mean if they book those 2 and then another couple newer big names it could work. I guess with the older skewing crowd they'd have no problem doing it. There's all these rumors about Pearl Jam having some more dates in North America after their stuff overseas. They'd be a perfect fit at ACL and the timing makes sense. Holding out hope for them still.
