There was precedent from last year that it could easily have been way better/different but regardless, nothin worth discussing anymore. Now that the full lineup is out, I think ACL pretty much bent Lolla over. Moving forward, just gonna have to temper my expectations for Lolla more than anything else.
not impressed with this in the least. Had been going back and forth between doing FFF or ACL and wanted to lean FFF since i never been to and looks like ill be going that way. This lineup is much much weaker than when i went in 2011. hope you all enjoy though and if you never been to Austin you will love it
In years past, ACL would already be sold out. However, now that they do two weeks and this year's lineup doesn't have much over 40 appeal, I'm not entirely sure it will sell out.

Anyone else think it's very possible that a big name be added on here at some point? The fact that this is bigger than Lolla and the first weekend didn't seel out right away? Might entice them to stick another name on the poster. Not to mention hey have to put some more weight on the first weekend since Lorde is only doing W2

It's possible. Just not entirely sure of its probability. There might be a chance they just add Lorde to weekend 1 once if weekend 2 sells out - assuming she's free that weekend.

I don't think anyone mentioned it above but there was supposed to be pages created for Julian Casablancas and Albert Hammond Jr which led some to believe it could be the Strokes. Which seems a bit excessive, but the idea makes me giddy as a schoolgirl
is this a big party fest? i'm thinking of going with my brother who doesn't drink. i've been to some festivals where not drinking or being under the influence can make it pretty hard to tolerate with the excess around you. is it accessible to the city? easily escapable? also, i hear the crowd skews older (which i assume is the polar opposite of, say, firefly). does old = laid-back? any info on the festival environment would be much appreciated. thanks.

It's not a big party fest. But it's fun.
is it accessible to the city?
Yes. It's smack dab in the middle of it.
easily escapable?
Hell no. If you drive, you will park 2 miles away. If you bus in, you will wait 2 hours for a bus. Now if you have a helicopter............

Yes, it is an older crowd. Bring the lawn chair and the blankie. There are still plenty of young hotties to rage with though.

Awesome information. By party, I just meant is it a highly-inebriated crowd or more mellowed. I do know that it varies by the act. Thanks for the swift reply.
I will most likely make this my last fest of the year. I dig the line-up, and it varies enough from my other fests this years - save Outkast, but who can escape them.

it is half drunk UT college kids and half austin families who bring lawn chairs and blankets and camp out at the back of the two big stages all day, just hanging out.

Who's stoked for some acl weekend two!! As someone who as never been to an acl could someone do me the favor to answer a few questions I have? Firstly, I read you can bring in a cooler, but from what I gather you can't have anything inside of it including ice? What's the point? Is there ice to buy inside the fest? Also what's the deal with lights/glow sticks? Are they allowed in or taken at the gate? And lastly are you allowed to bring in a totem? Let's get this thread active!!
Makin the trip from Chicago with a small group of 4. So pumped. I've heard nothing but great things about Austin. Hopefully we get a schedule/day by day breakdown somewhat soon to see how I can workout the conflicts with Lolla.
ughhh.... someone talk me out of going. I think I may do this fest. But the plane ticket is just so damn expensive. My aunt works at Marriott, so I can get a room fairly cheap (boarderline free maybe), but that plane ticket is nearly twice as much as the ticket... ugh.
Yeah that round trip is ridiculous. I spotted the tickets for me and my gf and she used her milage points for the flights. We booked em before the lineup even dropped just to be safe but last time I checked they were a little ridiculous.
I really want to do this one. I have to take a good look at my financial situation to see if I can swing it. Wish my ex would send the money he owes me. That would help me out a lot.
How do late sets work? Same as Forecastle type deal?
And yes, the plane ticket is the killer. I'm trying to convince a friend in Houston to come. If he does, and I can fly into Houston instead of Austin it makes the entire trip like $200 cheaper, which makes it much more doable. I really, really want to go... but that freaking plane ticket.....
What are the odds that weekend 2 sells out? The final tier of weekend 2 tickets are the only GA tickets left. I feel like I should just buy it and sell it if I need to. But I've never sold a fest ticket like that... how hard would it be to resell if needed?
they usually announce the after shows in late august or early september i think. i guess it is just whatever artists want to do it. they are at random venues all over town. austin has a noise ordinance, so any outdoor shows have to be over by 11pm on wknds and 10pm on weekdays.
also. if you are wanting to come to really see austin AND a fest, i would suggest trying funfunfunfest as your first trip here. it is much smaller and brings way less traffic to town. chose ACL only if you are really in love with the lineup.
Gotcha. thanks for the info. This is going to sound really lame, but like 85% of the reason i'm choosing this is because Sam Smith is playing and this is the only show that's not sold out. I actually looked up this fest after seeing that it was the only US show not sold out (besides portland, but i'm not flying literally across the country for one show). So yes, for me, it's all about this particular line up. I've never been to Austin, and have heard that FFF is the better festival. But this has Sam Smith, and he has my heart.

if he ends up doing an after show, it will only be one of the weekends. (at least last year, there was no overlap.)

are the after shows usually done by people off of the line up? Because I would totally see him twice in one weekend if I can. I don't even care.
Id be doing weekend 2, it's the only weekend that GA isn't sold out.

they are all people from the lineup. there will be local bands playing around but those won't be connected to ACL in anyway. i know wknd 1 is sold out, but you would be able to buy a ticket off craigslist or stubhub pretty easily as it get closer IMO.
Good to know. Takes a lot of guess work out which is nice. And actually weekend 2 works better anyways. The days are open at work & Lorde is only weekend 2 & I think seeing her could be kinda interesting.
Lorde bein weekend 2 worked out perfect for me. Def gonna see her and I couldn't make it weekend 1 so I was happy to see her there weekend 2. I'd think this day by day breakdown has to be coming soon. Most people I asked on other forums said mid June. June is basically over next week.
Emoney serves more of a purpose than any of you, especially Nate, whose incessant, garbled ramblings are so mindless and pointless that I get depressed just seeing them.
