Coldplay's new album came out today, and the critics have spoken!
Two years in the making, alternative rock band Coldplay’s new album, essentially a concept piece about Chris Martin’s break-up with Gwyneth Paltrow, has certainly garnered a number of extremely favourable reviews. In today’s harsh critical climate when major groups can expect to be torn to pieces by a fearless music press regardless of the consequences, that’s remarkable indeed. It’s all the more remarkable given that all things considered, Ghost Stories is from its arse to its f***ing elbow, one, long stagnant f***ing pool of premium grade f***ing cockwash! I would rather chew off my f***ing scrotum than ever listen again to this boneless f***ing melange of morose f***ing piss-shit! I would rather eat an entire f***ing yurt, washed down with f***ing beige paint recently shat out of an incontinent yak’s anus! Put it this way; so remorselessly insubstantial is this album that if it were submitted to the f***ing British Homeopathic Association as a f***ing potential remedy, they’d f***ing knock it back, saying: “No good, mate. You’ve over-diluted it, you silly twat!”
I liked how once they got paid, they could afford to steal (in the most loving way) from other bands who also got paid — there is something much less offensive, I think, about people who own homes with nice linens and stuff taking artistic cues from other people who own homes with nice linens.
The album begins with “Always in My Head,” which features one of these Lovingly Borrowed from Sigur Rós textures, a sort of processed thing that contains voices (did they use one of them little Casio keyboards that enjoy such cachet in certain circles?), and then a looped guitar with delay over a plodding bass line. It unfolds perfectly, like a row house: there is no other place for the toilet to go, so obviously it goes there, at the top of the stairs. There is no other thing to do at the chorus than to bring back that guitar loop, so here it is! It is very satisfying. Incidentally, if you squint at the cover art, it looks like a very specific piece of Sigur Rós merch; I think I have it on a tote bag somewhere.
Coldplay / Black Keys / Some other Band I dont care to see so I can skip Bonnaroo next year for other festivals and not feel like I'm cheating! I'd feel more like I got dumped and be able to travel guilt free! lol
EDIT: I would take itrainmonkeys lineup as a "pass" lineup in a heartbeat!

boy nothing sounds as ELECTRIFYING as a coldplay show. confession: when i lived in new york city i entered a contest to win tickets to a filming of them doing vh1 storytellers or something like that. i entered with no intention of going. i ended up winning 2 tickets and promptly sold them on craigslist to a lawyer in manhattan for $250 each.
I've already accepted the fact that I cannot attend roo next year, so if this were the headliners, I would feel so relieved. Kinda like when you were a kid and you couldn't go do something with your friends, then come to find out that whatever it was sucked anyway haha.
Could U2 and Coldplay in the same year? They kind of fill the same slot in my mind, although I guess Coldplay is more contemporary, and I don't think U2 would fit a "Classic Rock" headliner as much as they would fit the "Contemporary Headliner" slot, depending on how and when their Dangermouse album lands
If the answer is no, than my answer is fuck Coldplay, I want U2 2015.
Edit: Let me clarify I like Coldplay and would love to see them live, but I also would love to see U2 at roo, and I feel their chances are more limited than Coldplay

Actually this is probably the case with me as well so, yes, I think I agree!
coldplay is about 100000 times more likely than U2
Well I didn't really think likelihood was relevant in this discussion. They are supposedly putting out an album in 2015, and while it's all very speculative, it's definitely not impossible. my point is I wouldn't see both of them playing the same year.

agreed. booking both U2 and Coldplay would be madness.
