This was my first Roo, and I have two that stand out.
1) Saturday Night: Jack White finished his amazing set and I ran over to the disco to meet some friends. On a Jack White high, we danced our asses off. All day I had been carrying a robe in my bag, in preparation if we ended up at the Robe Rage at the Christmas barn. My friend wasn't feeling well all day, but I begged her to go as this was my first Roo. We walked into the barn with maybe 30 other people. We hung out in the back just chilling when I heard "Chrome-eo-O" over the speakers. We jetted to the front to realize the secret DJ was Chromeo, who is one of my favorites. From seeing them at their huge crowd earlier at Which, to just the Christmas barn which the size of a house party, it was a once in the lifetime experience.
2) The Sunday lineup was overall my favorite day. Our larger group broke up and I did most of the day with just one girlfriend. By 4pm we decided we wanted to see different acts. I was at Fitz, waiting for Broken Bells and just dancing my ass off by the middle tree at Which. This is the point I finally felt comfortable and without anxiety, and told her to go on without me. I wandered from show to show alone, which is something I didn't think I could do. (This doesn't seem like a big deal for some, but it's hard when it is not familiar.) I wandered to the City & Colour show, and decided to camp out at the tree off to the side, where I could just hear Dallas' beautiful voice. Everyone was napping or playing frisbee, so I laid in the sunshine with the group and took a nap to the sounds of band. That was the moment where I finally "understood Roo" and realize why you wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
Last year was my first ever Roo. Got the pit for Kanye West last year. I would say I was about tenth row. Midway through his set, I turn around and directly behind me is CHANCE THE FUCKING RAPPER. I'm a huge fan so I was certain it was him. I had just sparked up a blizzy, so I turned around and I gave it to him to hit. He hits it a few times, I snap a picture, and he said "thanks homie!", and went to give it back to me. I asked if he wanted to keep the rest of it and he grabbed me and pulled me in for the BIGGEST hug ever. It was one of the coolest moments of my life. DEFINITELY made up for that shitty Kanye performance. Couldn't figure out how to insert a photo from a mobile device, so I'll share the link from my Instagram.

My Bonnaroo moment last year?
Neutral Milk Hotel. The rush for the stage during King of the Carrot Flowers 2 & 3. The devotion that everybody under that tent had. They knew every lyric, every nuance in Mangum's voice. And it was a one in a life time event, or so I thought. Not that I object to seeing them again on this tour.
My Bonnaroo moment in 2013 is a lot funnier. Involves edibles, hysterical blindness and Paul McCartney and an extremely upset stomach.

Eating the best bratwurst I've ever had in my life before seeing Andrew bird. It remains my favourite thing I've ever eaten at roo (this includes Amish donuts and spicy pie)
More like that shitty Kanye setlist. Still enjoyed it, but for my first time seeing him, that was extremely underwhelming. He needed to shut up and put his ego behind him for that show. If you compare that setlist to any other Kanye setlist, it is by far the worst.

then you mustn't know much about kanye or what he's doing with his music. he rants, that's part of his show, get over it. if you compare his setlist to his recent shows, it's very similar, like to the made in america sets he did, or x games. all with the same stage set up the setlist is the same. or close to it
is was my first solo Bonnaroo. I wasn't planning on going solo until two days before I left and my friend had some family issues come up and couldn't make it... stupid real world...
I volunteer and have to be there the Sunday before Bonnaroo starts... "WTF am I going to do by myself for a week?" I thought... then I decided, whatever it is Bonnaroo, I will make friends...
To spare you the long, rambling, I love all of you post.... I was walking back to my car towards the end of Elton John ...I was sleepy, had to be back in AM... whatever... it all kind of hit me... This was not my first Bonnaroo, it was 7th actually, and it certainly was not the first time I had been sad about leaving. This time was different though.
I always meet people, many that I still keep in touch with, but this year was different.. I HAD to meet people... and it was amazing. Walking back to my car I realized in many ways this was the best Bonnaroo I had ever attended. I could have very easily broken down and cried at that point...Happy tears, not sad ones, and I didn't..because I'm not some girly man lol
At that point I think it REALLY hit me..all that stuff I have always preached to my friends about how Bonnaroo is about so much more than the music just slapped me right in the face. I can never thank all of the wonderful people I met last year who made it such a fantastic weekend enough. Never once did I feel alone or regret coming solo.
From my friend Marty, who is closer to my grandparents age than mine, Kevin and his crazy drones, Monie and her endless supply of cigs to bum , Mr and Mrs Skeels, the kiddos from Jersey next to us who got me to play beer pong for the first time in probably 10 years, and every one in between, from the bottom of my heart...thank you.
So much for sparing you the long rambling post....

Definitely the trio of Ben Howard, Dr. Dog and The Head and the Heart back to back to back Friday on Which stage was amazing for me. 3 i was really looking forward to seeing. Obviously when it started to rain after The Truth was magical. And the Head and the Heart being one of my favorite bands made for a perfect day. Then Saturday afternoon while watching Seasick Steve. Standing there listening and a guy turns and asks me if i have a lighter, of course i do. The show goes on and he brings John Paul Jones on the stage. I say to my friends, "wow, were seein a guy from zeppelin right now." Same guy turns around and says I know man aint it wild. I take a good look at him and say wait a second. Arent you the singer of The Head and the Heart? Sure was!
