Gonna RV next year. The extra energy from adequate sleep will be priceless. Crawled in the tent at 4:45 Saturday morning after a long trip at sts9 only to be baking 2 hours later.
I'm done wasting money on camp food, next year I only take my 150 qt and leave my 50 qt at home.
In the 150: 50 lbs dry ice 40 lbs wet ice 12 pack frozen bottled water 4 jugs spring water 12 apples Homemade hummus pita bread Frozen ice pops - classic summer pool edition
Nothing. Fucking. Else. No more random bagged veggies, no more chips and salsa, no more wasted space and cash. With all the delicious treats inside roo and a community food pile that resembles a klump family reunion sampler, I'm done wasting precious cheddar on easily spoiled .. cheddar.
Some advice. We froze 2 cases of water and that's all we needed and it keeps anything else cool also. I think each year we bring less stuff because we figure out what we don't really need.

The extra ice serves as cooler fodder for the drinkers in our group, though I agree entirely that you can squeeze by on freezing everything

Yea what you listed just sounds like a lot. You must have a big group.
I'll second the frozen water. I froze a case and spread it out between coolers. I brought 3. 2 for beer and one for food/water. I killed one cooler Wednesday night. And then was down to just the big 100qt by Sunday am. I used one cooler with wheels to fetch ice. The way it worked out for me is i spent $10 on ice per day for the weekend. Not bad and it was still very icy each morn. I brought way more beer and food than I needed.
No one would describe me as being "in great shape" by any stretch of the imagination, but for the past few months leading up to Roo I did a lot of distance walking at the gym, at a decent clip. Not running, just walking pretty fast. I give the treadmill a bit of an incline then walk for a full hour. It takes a while but by the end I'm pouring sweat and have burned a ton of calories and feel amazing. Then I would go do some minor upper body strength training.
I figured the distance walking would help with stamina at bonnaroo, and it really worked! I had noticeably more energy this year, and even when I got home I still had energy and felt great. Anyway I'm just one out of shape guy but I recommend trying distance walking, if you are anything like me and running is too hard on your legs.
I'm keeping this in mind. I have the gym membership but made excuses all year. I'm not letting anything dampen my enjoyment next year that's in my control
This caught my eye because one of the guys in my group wore his Fit Bit all weekend. I'd always been curious about how much walking people did on the farm, and this provided some concrete numbers. He walked, in total, 38.86 miles from Thursday through Sunday. There are a few things to keep in mind about those numbers. ... A. We went VIP, so the numbers likely could have been higher for someone in GA, particularly if they had a long walk to Centeroo. B. He was in his 50s and didn't do a ton of late nights. Knowing him - and how I stayed up until at least 4 a.m. every night - I'd guess I walked closer to 50 miles throughout the weekend. Granted, I think the Fit Bit calculates dancing as walking, but that's still expending energy in my opinion, just like walking.
It was a scene, man. The years I have attended, I've been joined by one, two, three, nineteen and then nearly fifty campmates at roo. This year was frankly the best yet, as we spotted people at literally every show throughout the weekend. If you ever saw a bouncing inflatable unicorn at a show or a camp sparklefart logo, that was our little tribe :-)

I love my fitbit but I did notice that if you shake the wrist it's on with enough gusto, it counts it as a step or 5.

I will actually GO. This year I had planned to go and about 10 hours before departure lost a babysitter, toddler hid the cash (still looking for it), & the air conditioner broke. Being a grown up is hard :/ My husband did go for a couple of days and we will definitely go VIP and RV. He couldn't take the heat and really hated being out in pod 10 and getting lost every day :/ i would have totally dug it, however. I like getting 'lost' and the randomness of finding events and people.

My phone tracks how far I walk and says I walked 36 miles thursday- sunday. I think it's off assuming it keeps track by knowing my location and I didn't have service all weekend and eventually started turning off my data.
1. Ride the Ferris Wheel at night. 2. Try something other than the plain cheese pizza from Spicy Pie Company. 3. Stick it out for the duration of a late night show again (I've only ever done this for Die Antwoord...didn't make it through anything this year.) 4. See a Bonnaroo sunrise. (Other than the one I saw this year while we set up our tent after waiting in line all night.) 5. Not skip so many mid-day shows. I missed 7-8 shows simply because I didn't wanna trek my ass from Pod 10, haha. 6. See what the Kalliope buzz is about. 7. See what the Superjam is all about.

Having done all of these, I can safely say you should plunge headlong into every single one of them next year! And grab a friend so you have someone to share the memories with! The Kalliope obviously isn't for everyone, but even if you're not a fan of the music nothing beats the visuals of fire, lasers and random people dancing under an enormous multi colored parachute at 4 am.

Honestly, the only thing I really can't bring myself to do when it comes to The Farm, is the fountain and the water slide. The fountain seems unsanitary. And my big ol' thighs aren't conducive to walking around wet. That's a recipe for chub rub if I ever heard one, haha.

Something was off with me this year, and I've been trying to figure out what it was.
This article puts a lot of the thoughts I had about Bonnaroo after my first year into words. Nice to know that a 15yr old is way more eloquent than I am. This was my second year going, and while I had a great time, it really didn't compare. I've been trying to figure out what the difference was, and I'm starting to think it was the group that I was with. My first year I went with 2 of my best friends, and spent around half the time alone. This year I coordinated a group of about 20 people coming down and camping together, a lot of them which probably came because I convinced them to. This part of the article describes it well: "Bonnaroo, in a way that most other festivals are less likely to deliver, embraces the setting aside from your own cool and opens its community up to all manner of personal transcendence. It welcomes grown men who work in offices and probably wish they could constantly discuss music with their co-workers. Upon arriving at Bonnaroo, they can shed all sad formality, turn off their phones, and change into a rainbow bodysuit". It's almost like this year, instead of going to Bonnaroo to escape the real world, I brought my world to Bonnaroo. Every time I heard someone in my group complain I felt a little bit of responsibility. Overall I had a good time and I think most people did as well, but is it weird to say that if I do it again I'll probably go alone or with a couple of other people only?
Try to stay up for the later sets. I really wanted to see Deadmau5 but after working my 3-9 shift in the sun I had to go back and lay down, and then couldn't make myself move to go back. At least I could hear him from my site in pod 1.
Schedule more time off AFTER 'roo...a vacation to recover from vacation woulda been nice!
Dont get so messed up Wednesday and Thursday that i pass out and miss glass animals. Also bring more money, the hundred and fifty i brought was deleted after 2 days almost.

I will arrive at brunch earlier, stay later, and talk to more people, now that I know it is not a trap run by cannibals or something. Not one person was mean, everyone seemed to be having fun, and I saw no signs of cannibalism. (Or was 2015 just a show to get even more people to come next year, because cannibals have great self control and planning skills?) I will bring savory/non-sweet food, and maybe beer.
I also will not follow a caravan past our turn and a further three miles down the road before turning around to get in a way longer line, meaning we have to wait 4-5 hours in line and not get to camp until after 1:00 AM.
I will not bother bringing food that needs to be cooked on site. (Brought less this year, will bring none next year.)
And I will drink more wine, especially inside Centeroo.
I'm going to SLEEP. I had to leave half way through mumford because I was exhausted and just not enjoying anything, then woke up the next morning really bumming about all I missed that night. But after that sleep sunday was in my opinion the most fun I had that weekend! I'm only 21 and I've already got this whole "i don't know how these kids do it." attitude.
You ain't kidding. This year was my third roo and I still can't get over the feeling of "oh shit I can't believe I missed that!" Even though I know it's inevitable throughout the weekend... Unless u come home with a new meth addiction, your either gonna miss a bunch, or do it all half assed and not feel fulfilled, and STILL feel like a zombie for a week. I did bring a bunch of caffeine pills and vitamins and pedialyte this year though and I feel like they helped a lot. And having my girlfriend reminding me to eat was good

^My entire Sunday this year. Didn't even have the energy to go see Caribou

Next year I definitely need to remember pedialyte. It's easy to get caught up in drinking and eventually you get sick of straight water for re-hydration.
Also next year My gf and I are trying Silent Disco. On our way to Trapped in the Closet there was plenty of open space and it looks really fun. Watching those seniors in that Funny or Die video has convinced me to do it.

If you have a Camelbak you might want to check out hydration tablets. They're probably not as great as Pedialyte, but they've got B vitamins and electrolytes (and most importantly, they make the water not taste like water - it's a good mask when the water goes eggy). They make ones with a little caffeine in them too.
I'm not sure how much of a difference they make since I've always used them, but having flavored water is enough of a blessing that I will continue to do so regardless of any extra-hydrating benefits.

Yeah man good call. Silent disco has been one of my realistic regrets every year I've been, looks fun as hell but we always walk by and say yeah well be back and never do... And the pedialyte was a new edition for us this year, I'd recommend the freeze pop ones, you can't keep em frozen but they're nice and portable and we helped 3-4 people (who were flopping around on the ground) come back to after we gave em an extra we had on us. Vitamin C cough drops were good too cus chewing gum can fuck with ur jaws if u chew it all weekend. HEY also random addition cus I just saw your board name, I'm goin to a band tomorrow night called 'Start making sense' (talking heads cover band), if ur a big David Byrne fan u might already know them but SO worth checking out if they're ever in ur area. AND they open up for themselves as a hall n Oates cover band, does it get any better?!? Haha

This year was the only year I've ever had a problem with dehydration. I wasn't ready for it. I was throwing up in a garbage can on Sunday morning. But I think what got me through until then was actual pedialyte. I love that stuff.
