Kronos, I'll give 'em another chance but when they broke out the rubber squeaky chicken and stuffed animals as a part of their Wu Man set they kind of lost me!
I totally agree....that was Victor Borge nonsense. Their set with Laurie Anderson, conversely, was brilliant.
BTW - if any of you see a short white guy with blonde dreads; it's probably me. Say hello!
What I saw of it was absolutely great. I just figured that me starting to nod off during that was a sign I needed to get home quick. I think I stated awake for maybe two minutes once I got in bed.
How is it that the Standard is packed for Holly Herndon but it was only half full for Clark and Jamie xx last PM? That I did not expect...
I missed Clark because I was at Kronos Quartet w/ Wu Man (big mistake; least favorite performance so far), and then was just so tired after that I called it a night.
On a positive note, Loscil and AWVFTS earlier were sublime. Wish AWVFTS would have let the crowd chill/sit/lie/melt rather than making folks stand, but I know capacity was the issue.
Completely agree on both counts about AWVFTS... They were amazing ...and the only difference between standing and sitting (besides the capacity issue): the latter was more comfortable and allowed me to see the musicians. I spent the standing portion of that set looking at the back of someone's head.
On a surprising positive note, I found that an old friend from my high school years was playing in HIVE! What a set that was...
Today's Agenda: Bing & Ruth + Special Guests, Decasia (Film), Terry Riley, Zs, Silver Apples, Little Annie, Swans

@summerteeth214 spotted Angel Olsen at Grouper last night. I just saw her again waiting for Tonya Tagaq. The best part is that her purse is a Set Your Fire For No Witness bag.
I saw Sean from Langhorne Slim at Bing & Ruth. Cool to see him supporting side projects.
I showed Ben Frost Phyre Fest's photo. His response was "Man.I need a haircut."

Gave up my one-in, one-out spot at the Standard for Kronos in favor of a plate of Sweet P's next door when I found out Tanya Tagaq (who I really came to see) wasn't there to play with them - that was the right call. The pulled pork and banana pudding deserve undercard billing on the Big Ears poster they were so damn good...
Fyi: steveternal made me aware the app now has Swans starting at 9pm. So much for seeing most of Max Richter.
Edit: Thor from Swans is hanging out in the crowd for Zs. I didn't ask him about the time change because I am terrified of everyone in Swans.
Mrs. GL's exact words: "Jesus H. This is a roll with it kinda festival. " Quote 2: "I don't know who any of these bands are except Swans. You have fun with that"

I talked to somebody from AC just to double check on Swans. They said 9pm was always the scheduled start for Swans. It was just done weird glitch in the app that made it show the start time as 943. If you look at one of the paper schedules. It has them and Little Annie in one big time block starting at 830.

BTW - what was up with the audience-pointed-lights during the Swans? Did someone forget to turn the house lights down, or was that a request of the band?
Jesus fucking christ. I went into Swans just for the photos, ended up sitting front row, then he told everyone to stand up so we all hit the stage, and after seeing that show, from that close, I am now a believer. I have some pretty incredible photos to share. Here's a taste of what's to come.

That's odd. They must have been pointed further back because I didn't notice them. I know they turned them up at the end because Gira said he wanted to see everyone.
