I JUST realized how ironic it would be to have Slayer at a festival like Bonnaroo (which started as a jam fest) as I was flipping through channels and saw Cartman from south park playing Slayer to break up the "hippie jam festival." I fell off my bed from laughing so hard, now I NEED Slayer at the farm asap.

I'm going to be the jerk that tells you that this is not ironic.
Ah, the debate about what irony is... So you're going to say that it wouldn't be ironic to have a "hippy jam fest" (what bonnaroo started as) book the group that was used to break up a "hippy jam fest"...

Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying.
ON TOPIC:
If you saw the original lineup a bunch of times over the years, I can see why you wouldn't be too excited for the current version of the band. But their roster is pretty damn respectable. Lombardo might be metal's greatest drummer, but Bostaph spent a decade with the band after Dave left for the first time. And Hanneman's replacement is Gary Holt from fuckin' Exodus. I saw this lineup last year with low expectations, and I ended up having a blast.

Agreed, strongly support them coming to farm in '15 cause I didn't get to see the original lineup AND the Slayer show that's close to me sold out before I could get a ticket

I saw them last year with 4 arm and Gojira and I thought it was a great show. It was great to hear the set list that was on Seasons In the Abyss or the previous records but it would have been cool to hear them play "Disciple" or "Jihad".
Could they work as a pre-headliner on the What stage? At very least a late-daytime What stage act? In all honesty though, I think we're really over-reach the number of metal fans at Bonnaroo. If Mastodon couldn't but half fill a tent with them being one of the biggest modern metal bands in the country, would it not be out of the ballpark to have Slayer in a LN tent up against another high profile act on the Which? Granted they're bigger than Mastodon, but not THAT much bigger at the moment. They both play a lot of the same sized venues.

I think at this point they would be in a tent.
I think they could be a very packed tent if they were up against a really big act on which, a decent act in the Other Tent and a solid superjam going on in That Tent.

It can't be any worse than the Sleigh Bells, Bassnectar or Ludacris tents of years past.
they will play a tent at right after a rap act on the what stage so people who truly dont like rap have somewhere to go hang and wait for them to begin
Not much else to add other then yes. Before you see the light, you must die.
I'm concerned about the possibility of any future metal LNs though. Just look at the crowd size for Mastodon > Deafheaven > Meshuggah, they were tiny. Don't get me wrong, this made me extremely happy, just saying that while Bonnaroo metal fans are passionate, there aren't a lot of us.
But Slayer is a much bigger name than Mastodon. I'm having difficulty figuring out where Bonnaroo would book them. My heart says LN Which but my brain says an overpacked pre-HL That Tent.
I see them in the 2010 GWAR spot. Don't remember which tent it was but there seemed to be allot of people there and it was quite awesome

Slayer is definitely a significantly bigger draw than Mastodon (and I think bigger than GWAR) but I'm not an expert on metal. I could see them getting LN That Tent (which would fucking AMAZING)

That's what I think also. Mastadon is a Metal Head's Metal Band. I could imagine Slayer drawing people who don't even like Metal just to see what all the whoopla is about.

Exactly my thoughts, I had actually written something similar about mastodon being "a big metal act BUT ONLY to metal heads." I know lots of people who aren't really into metal but would like to see Slayer.

I saw Slayer play in Dallas last year and Mastodon this year. Slayer's crowd was double that of Mastodon. I also think if they put out a good album next year that will help their chances of getting a bigger crowd.

I seen them both at different Mayhem Fests. Mastodon was a number 4 on the bill, Slayer number 2.

Ok, glad to know I was correct. That being said, I think they could get a LN That Slot IF the opposing acts were huge (whoever our EDM headliner is and a good superjam could do it, but another show on top of those would be preferable
