Buku was giving out cards yesterday at Mad Decent. Dates will be March 13-14, 2015. Tickets go on sale Friday September 5. Gonna give VIP a shot. www.thebukuproject.com. We had a lot of fun at this last year and 2013. A little un-NOLA like with the security but still fun.
Email just came out and the presale is Friday at 11am. It's kind of expensive this year, but free booze will hopefully still be part of the VIP. Even though it's a younger festival crowd with music that generally caters to them, I saw a ton of great stuff last year (Lotus, Conspirator, Explosions, Beats Antique, Lips, NAS, Freedia, Bone Thugs, etc.
GA early Bird is 139.50 VIP is 299.50 Too Buku is 599.50
VIP perks to be announced soon, but they promise 'to bring the heat as always.'
They released a save the date video which is up on YouTube. I had to mute it because it was some pop song, but the video shows off the fest pretty well with clips spliced in for Lips, Gravity A, Beats, Explosions, NAS, etc. you can also see it on their home page at www.thebukuproject.com
Email blast came out this morning including VIP amenities. Fortunately, they are again including an Open Bar with VIP. For 10-12 hours x 2 days, that makes the pre-sale $299.50+ acceptable. FWIW, the advance sale prices are off the chain for a 2 day fest. From my mention of that in the Voodoo thread, two theories I can come up with are that either they figured out that they can pretty much charge whatever they want and sell it out (or at least sell as many tickets as they need to) or they either have to/are going to open up the wallet. I'm actually kind of surprised that Buku costs more than Voodoo which is a superior (but completely different) festival. The only early rumors I have heard around the city were Doctor P and Porter Robinson. Clearly they have more up their sleeve, but it's pretty damn expensive with what all passed through the city this year and last. Maybe something big in the works (still thinking Papadosio, Zoogma on the lower-midcard band side and maybe a return of Sound Tribe)?

Still not sure what the Dio reference was other than throwing up the rock/metal horns which he is most closely identified with inventing. Buku sometimes tweets out city references. The only rock thing I knew of in the city today was either the FF tickets frenzy or the acoustic sevendust show. It's not his birthday or the day he died, and Buku is not associated with metal. They bring a little rock (Primus, Lips) but mostly it's between EDM, Rap, pop and newer progressive/instrumental/jamtronica. Not to put on the dunce cap but if anyone gets/got what they did, let me know.
Hey Eagle,
Glad you had fun, Voodoo weekend is a good weekend to be in town as is Halloween. When they are together it's a kick. This is mostly a different scene than Voodoo. They upped the age to 18 last year which was a little better. It's not as carefree say as Voodoo, but we've never not had a ball.
Last year, 2 of the Top 3 headliners from Aura were on the bill (Lotus and Conspirator - both were great at Buku). In 2013, Break Science played a great set at Buku. I don't see Disco Biscuits playing, but possibly Papadosio or Break Science live band if there is any overlap this year. Initial lineup came out last year on 12/10 with the additions in January, and on 12/5 for the 2013 fest. So we ought to have some info in 2-3 weeks.

Yeah I've heard the crowd can be meh, but the festival itself seems very underrated. Stellar lineups over the past few years, maybe kick up the headliners a notch?

It kind of is underrated, and it's a blast. And there is always killer other shit as long as you don't mind switching off to rap and EDM at times. But yeah, Primus 3D, Explosions, Public Enemy, Lotus, Beats, Griz, Big G with STS9, Lettuce, Thundercat, Freedia, Lips, Conspirator, Nas, Bone Thugs, Gravity A, Break Science, Smallpools, etc just some of the shows I've seen there in the last 2 years. That's mostly stuff I would go to at any festival. With the substantial price increase this year, they may be going balls out. No idea.
Then again, I'm a Primus fan, and over 30. All the youngin's chanting 'We want Kid Cudi" etc during Primus' set pissed me off a lot. Plus they all stood still during Primus then would lose their minds everything else. Lettuce was great, and FlyLo was fun too.
Don't remember much else other than seein' Flux Pavillion's pasty ass hitting very predictable bass drops and everyone acting like it was the greatest thing since sliced L.
If you are a crunchy young kid decked out in dayglobro attire then this fest is epic.
So these fux posted a buku-turkey creature yesterday claiming he saw a peak of the lineup about a week ago. I tried to go through their instagram, twitter and facebook to check back a week (or so) ago to see if anything was out there. I don't think they'd just put that out there unless to say something was posted a while back or unless it's a puzzle which they typically employ leading into the lineups. Damn it. I like to be able to figure stuff out, but I couldn't get it. I wonder if the tweeted out "Dio" photo, almost immediately deleted, would have had something to do with it. That was 8 days from yesterday. Damn it. I hate when I can't figure something out. :mad2:

I think the Dio picture had to do with the fact that he died.

Yeah but he died in like 2012 or 2013, right? And it wasn't on that date - lemme go look that shit up- July 10, 1942 to May 16, 2010 (damnit if those 4 years didn't just fly the f by). So what would they have to gain by the tweet? I took "Rock!" away from the capture Jabco posted. But idfk. And that annoys me. Did it mean something and they retracted because someone realized he was dead after the fact?

You're right, he died in 2010. That tweet really made no sense.

I'm a Primus fan, but I was only 19 at the time and I was livid about the crowd at the Primus show because I'd wanted to see them for a long time and the shitty Kid Cudi fans chanting was ruining it and nobody would dance. Ugh, I am getting pissed just thinking about it. I just saw em again doing their wonka tour and the crowd refused to dance, but everyone was happy to be there and I'll dance no matter what, so it was a definite improvement. I love buku because of the acts, the fact that it's in NOLA, and the specific location in the city (feeling the wind whip off the river while watching Lettuce with my crew in 2013 is one of my favorite festival memories ever.)
Lettuce, FlyLo, Big G, STRFKR, T.E.E.D., Daedelus, Earl Sweatshirt, Japandroids, Action Bronson, Public Enemy, and Primus 3D were all great when I went in 2013 and the tickets were pretty cheap and the road trip there was crazy/hectic in the best way. I'll never forget that trip as long as I live. I hope to make it back sometime soon if the lineup appeals to me enough since I'm 21 and it'll give me a shot do New Orleans proper now that I'm 21.

That crowd was so bad, I got vip for 2014, which honestly was the cheapest/most emities vip ticket I ever bought. With the age increase the crowd got better last year too. We saw three kids OD'ing in 2013, it was horrible.
That being said, I got my 2015 tickets and am ready for the lineup to drop.
Could be. I'm hearing Borgore as well who I don't think I've seen before (or don't remember). So if the guy who has been spouting about the electronica has legit inside info, Porter Robinson and Doctor P are in, possibly Borgore and if the elev8 guess is right, RJD2. Those are the only names I've heard except one other DJ which I keep forgetting. I thought Porter was entertaining at Hangout 2013, but the last album I heard was kind of wimpy. So who knows?
What I don't think we'll get any hints on unless Buku puts them out is for bands or which rappers they're going after. For bands, I'm still thinking Papdosio and/or Break Science live band based on the Aura connections from the last two years. Just the same, I've never seen Disco Biscuits before, and I'd be down to see them even if I'd be one of 50 people like the underappreciated Lotus set last year which blew me away.
Then there are the rappers. Wu Tang maybe? The last few years have featured Public Enemy, Kendrick, Kid Cudi, Bone Thugs, Nas, Pusha T, Schoolboy Q, Tyler, Earl (who was dismal) and Action Bronson. There were others too. And you know that either Freedia, Katey or Cheeky Blakk will probably get a spot. Top hope I guess would be Wu Tang who I still haven't seen and who are active right now.

As far as rappers go, my friend's inside source (from Buku) said the rap headliner is bigger than Nas, but didn't have an actual name. I would love Wu-Tang personally and I feel they are bigger than Nas, but who knows.
They are. Nas is big for his contributions to rap history, but Wu Tang is kind of giant. Then you have the legacy act stuff based on '13 and '14. Wu Tang is sort of legacy (3rd/4th wave), but I wonder if they break out LL or Ice T or even some crazy old shit like 2 Live Crew, Big Daddy Kane or Cool Moe Dee? Like I posted earlier, last 2 years initial lineups were 12-5-12 and 12-10-13. So we are in that window. I just hope they spend the extra ticket cost money wisely.

I'm hoping for a lineup drop by the 10th for sure.
ive heard odesza from multiple people now, seems pretty confirmed. What do yall think about run the jewels, isaiah rashad, mr carmack, keys n krates? i commented on that "whatchu want" fb post by buku with those four (plus flatbush zombies but theyre in europe during buku) and buku liked my comment but none others... not sure what that means

I'd take run the jewels. You can't ever tell with buku, they're sparatic at best. Unless they told you, you win and stuff with that comment.
The only acts that really appeal to me that sem at least kinda likely are Wu Tang, ODESZA, and Run the Jewels. Mind you, I LOVE all three of those acts, but there isn't much else attracting me. I just wanna see who their big rock act will be this year with Primus in '13 and FLips in '14, I can't wait to see who they try to follow that up with. (I wouldn't be surprised at all if Tame Impala played this year.)
Lmao. Without specifically hating on anything I haven't researched or seen, and before the list is out, you already know there will be some easy to scratch off the list shit. That goes without saying. But they (so far) have more than made up for the pap. You know we will see some killer ass shit.

I'm hoping for TV on the radio, but I'd flip my lid if tame impala played!! <3 <3
