This doesn't seem like a good start for me. I'm not a huge fan of that. Who knows though. Maybe I'll change my mind over the next few months. If not, one less conflict!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

It's definitely an odd choice for a first announcement. You'd think they'd go with something that's a little more folky to kick things off

I wouldn't mind if they didn't announce anyone which jay sweet has said the idea has been passed around and just find when you show up. I would feel like a kid again waiting for christmas to come.

Ugh, that would be such a nightmare for me! It would be a neat gimmick, but I looove having the few months to get to know the artists. Especially with the rolling lineup, you actually can focus on one artist per day. The lineup doesn't matter in the end to me, I'll get my tickets regardless, but I still like being able to make a schedule ahead of time.

Agreed on this. I had only known a little of Ryan Adams discography and knowing he'd be at Newport had me delve deep into it and be a big fan by the time I got to see him. There were also a couple other smaller artists (Houndmouth, Noah Gundersen, Ages and Ages, Pokey Lafarge) that I also got into because they were on the lineup.
I'd hope that the fact that they nearly sold out the entire festival before a single artist was announced this year would dissuade Sweet from doing it, but if they ever do I'll go along for the ride. There's probably a good chance a number of artists would leak beforehand
So I noticed Taylor Swift's tour has shows 7/24-25 with the 26th off and no shows until August 1st. She does have a house in Newport. Taylor Swift acoustic Sunday headliner?

You know what... I may only be saying this because I'm drunk, but I would totally be down for some T-Swizzle up in New-Pizzle Folk Fizzle. (Embarrassment following this post to come shortly)
It's OK. The Newport Folk Festival Twitter quickly shot down my wild speculation and replied that they invited her as a guest, not even to perform, and she declined. So, barring encouragement from HAIM, T-Swift will not be at Newport.

So I'm jumping in now, but when does this lineup usually come out? Thinking I may finally hit up this fest, it'll be the first time I'm on the east coast when its happening!

Yeah for someone Taylor's stature to perform they'd have to really be personally supportive of NFF to put themselves out there (and take the massive paycut). Are there any megastars close to that level who are known to be NFF fans?
Dylan's the closest I can think of offhand who at least has the personal history, but it's not like he's anywhere near the concert draw that Taylor is.

Lineup is rolling. No "release date". Part of that is they get artists that might be under a radius clause and can't release until another event sells out or is over. So we won't really know until very close to the actual festival. But it's never let me down in 4 out of the last 5 years.

Cool cool, thanks! Really looking forward to this one. I almost went last year but had to sell my ticket at the last minute.

Got tix to see him here in a month, but from what I've heard he's good enough to see twice. Or if not - one less conflict. A good pick, if an unsurprising one.
His version of "The Promise" was one of the best covers of last year:

Agreed.
Not to mention Spotify has informed me that for the past 2 years my most played playlist and artists for that year all tend to be Newport related. I love the anticipation of a music festival.

I certainly love making playlists leading up to newport each year but i'm up for trying something new and jumping up and down when i walk in the fort like i usually do in my office when someone gets announced. Plus my schedule usually never goes the way i plan so it would he interesting but i know it would make most people crazy.
LD. I guess we're not doing Sturgill in Northampton, huh? (I'm still down)
NoHo was always a question of: 1. Is it snowing that day? 2. How am I feeling after work that day?
I figured he was showing up at Newport, especially after he was announced at Forecastle. However, I was considering going to NoHo to see him just to not worry about going to his set at Newport. Because putting it nicely, Heather HATES country.
I'd rather stay with her and go to some other set.

Many sober hours later and I still think I would be a-okay with this!

Aight, I slept on getting weekend passes because I wasn't sure I'd be able to go, but now it looks like I'm in for Sat and Sun! What's my best option to lock down tickets? Stubhub? Better to get them now or closer to the date? Should be an awesome weekend...one of my old bands is playing a reunion gig in Boston on the Friday, then I'll head down to Newport for the weekend....wheee!
