So Hozier is playing WayHome in Ontario the same weekend. Dawes isn't on that lineup but given their tour together I'd guess they get added. Not sure if that minimizes their Newport chance or not
Not necessarily. Maybe Dawes is already booked for Newport (or an after show) and that is why they're not at Wayhome.
Unfortunately I think he was announced for a festival already with promise that it would be his only festival performance of the year.
I am going to not look into this at all, and hope for the best. Haha. Thanks for the heads up though. I'll try not to be too crushed when he doesn't show.
Well nevermind. Sufjan was just announced for Eaux Claires music fest.
Madisen Ward and the Mama Bear just announced that they will be at NFF. Love them!
Huh, never heard of them, but they're playing Letterman tonight and signed to Glassnotes a few months back. Aquarium Drunkard loves them, who've famously broken a few Newport acts in the past (Alabama Shakes and Benjamin Booker come to mind). They may be a lot better known by the time July rolls around www.aquariumdrunkard.com/2014/09/23/madisen-ward-the-mama-bear-live-by-water/

It's about an 10 hour drive from WayHome to Newport, so Hozier could still play both. His next two dates after that weekend are Tuesday the 28th in Pittsburgh then Wednesday the 29th in Rochester Hills, MI. So he could do WayHome the Friday, travel the Saturday, Newport the Sunday, then head West for the rest of his dates.
Edit: Also Courtney Barnett is playing both festivals, so it is indeed possible! So can we get The Decemberists on board with this too? Make it a big ol' Folk Fest convoy!)
Would Elvis Costello supporting the two Boston shows have any bearing on him playing Newport?
I'd be more worried about that date in Michigan on the following Monday. Sure he could jump a plane to Detroit in the morning, but what's the odds of that actually happening?

That could easily happen.
Seeing that he has that weekend off makes me so excited in mi pantalones.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Averts will be there I think. They seem to be there every two years and it's always the same year they are at Merlefest and that lineup is already out.

I think seth and Jessica Lea will be there. Not the whole band.
Very cool. Jessica is one of the sweetest smartasses I've ever met. We were neighbors for a time when she was a kid, and I remember her whole talented family being friendly but all kind of a bunch of wisenheimers. Haven't seen her or her bro around in a couple years, but it was so nice seeing her (and him) grow up to be successful and happy.
I just saw Field Report open for PHOX over the weekend. They're decent but a little unexciting. Kind of like a poor man's Lord Huron with some electronic drums
I like Field Report on album. In fact, I tweeted at Newport multiple times to book them for this year's fest. But I can see how they may be a little tame live.
I am really bummed about missing them in Pittsburgh as the opener for Bahamas. That would have been a great double bill at a tiny little club.
Also, great year to not land tickets. I like every band that has been announced so far... (and they would all have been on my wish list if I knew I was going).
