I dunno, I could be very wrong, in which case we just get Roger Waters... I know total bummer. It just seems too perfectly lined up to not have something happening with their strong affiliation with the fest. Maybe they just want to be there with the rest of us and that's why they don't have any shows and are in the NE.

I love how we get Roger Waters as a headliner - one of the biggest names to be headlining any festival this summer and a huge surprise for it to be at Newport - and we can't just be happy lol. We get Roger Waters and immediately jump to "maybe My Morning Jacket will be his backing band?" and "Maybe Nick Mason could come along". We're a few posts away from "Pink Floyd Reunion" hahaha
Nothings ever good enough for us. WE NEED MORE!
Seriously, though, I love the excitement that this announcement has brought.

Oh I'm completely content with just Roger and a guitar, I'd actually prefer it.

Not busting your chops.....just find it funny how we go right to "How can this be even better?" modes of thinking.

Last night I had seen people in chat wishing they could come just to see Roger Waters. And I wonder who from here actually will come to Newport because of this announcement.
Not naming names, but one was contemplating going from Newport to Nashville in time for Mike D's pool party. It's a crazy idea and I don't recommend it. Why would you want to leave RI once you got here?

That has to be people who have never been to NFF. I agree - why would you ever leave voluntarily?

Obviously everyone's happy with Roger. I wasn't attacking anyone with my post. Just find it funny that we get the biggest news one could imagine and we're all thinking of ways of how it can get better lol
I'm one of those people coming basically just for Roger. I loved the Friday lineup to begin with but planned to just do XPoNential all weekend. I'll still be doing XPoNential, just after I see that amazing Friday lineup. Last time I saw Waters was 99, so it's long overdue for another go round.
Jay Sweet always talks about the power we have. Let's barrage Newport, MMJ and Roger with enough messages to will this into being
I like your enthusiasm.
Just so I'm clear, I have no problem with just Roger and a guitar, I don't "need" more. I just find it all very curious.
I'm with you D-Bird. I am over the moon thrilled and would not even think of asking for more. "However" the wording is suggestive. Thinks its a brilliant move for NFF to come out with an over the top Friday headliner. Very interested to see if Friday sales lag behind again next year. Cant help but think there is some brilliant marketing there. But.. it also makes me scratch my head and wonder why such a big name would take on the Friday spot when Friday is considered to be the 'lesser' day.
All in all I really dont quackin' care because we are getting Roger! Bucket list!
Roger probably has no clue that Friday is the "lesser" day and even if he did at the end of the day it's going to sell out too and there will be the same number of people there Friday as Saturday and Sunday. If you ask me even before they announced him Friday has the best lineup so far.
So what are the chances MMJ backs Waters? They have no shows conflicting. Days off before to rehearse (maybe). Obviously this isn't gonna be a "normal" Roger Waters show with crazy lights and visuals. So what does a "special" low-key Roger Waters show look like?
I think it's within the realm of possibility and would be absolutely incredible. I'll be a little surprised if nothing happens between them, even if it's just Jim, but I'd still have no complaints if it's just Waters the whole show.
On the Father John Misty thing, my current prediction is that he's on the lineup for Boston Calling in September and is an unannounced artist for Newport on Sunday. But again, I'm trying not to get my hopes up.
Would anyone in the neighborhood like 2 tickets to Hurray for the Riff Raff at Columbus theatre Providence for Sat 6/6? Grabbed four and we will only be using 2. Thought I'd check here first - otherwise will give them away at the door.

Notice Friday tix are still on sale. I'd wondered if Roger was massive enough to sell the rest out quickly, but then again I don't know how far Friday was/is from being sold out.

They're clearly reading this because they just posted that less than 100 tickets are left for Friday

Not sure I can afford a Friday ticket right now . Just had to lease a new car (mine was shot/terrible) and still gotta buy my Roo airport ticket. Hopefully I'll be able to get one later on if they sell out. If not, I'll listen to Roger from the gate haha

I can guarantee the above ITM (This is a non-issue for you.)
It should be against the law to do a countdown clock that doesn't change the site/add the news on a site exactly at 0:00
It's changed now

Oh wtf. I figured they'd announce the guests. We all knew this was coming anyway haha.
Last year ( and maybe previously? ) they wouldn't announce the guests until after the shows sold out. For some reason I figured this year was different. Looks like I'm going to not be buying tickets and just hoping I can grab a last minute Sunday one if Felice Brothers are with them (which they most likely will be). Hell...I may just get a sunday ticket since I'll be heading home after anyways.
