Mumford and Sons won't play. We have our three headliners and no way would they be anything else. And I'm sure they want to distance themselves a bit from the folk thing. I could see Marcus coming in for '65 Revisited, but that's about it, and that wouldn't be announced if it's happening
Nobody thinks it's strange that Newport didn't call Decemberists a headliner...that's ok
Was just looking at the NFF tickets on TicketMaster, and noticed this list in the details:
Details: Newport Folk Festival, Leon Bridges, The Decemberists, First Aid Kit, Jose Gonzalez, Lord Huron, Bahamas, Courtney Barnett, Field Report, The Lone Bellow, Sturgill Simpson, J Mascis, Heartless Bastards, Madisen Ward and the Mama Bear, The Jones Family Singers, Iron & Wine and Ben Bridwell, Langhorne Slim, Laura Marling, Watkins Family Hour, Brandi Carlile, Blake Mills, Calexico, Christopher Paul Stelling, Joe Pug, Nikki Lane, Nathaniel Rateliff, Shakey Graves, Angel Olsen, Sufjan Stevens, Béla Fleck, Abigail Washburn, The Barr Brothers, Spirit Family Reunion, Andy Shauf, The Felice Brothers, Haunt the House, The Tallest Man On Earth, Rodrigo Amarante, Hiss Golden Messenger, Elephant Revival, Jason Isbell, Traveller, The Suffers, Tommy Stinson, Night Sweats, Brian Fallon, Music Maker Foundation, Strand of Oaks, The Goodbye Girls, New Breed Brass Band, Luluc, Jon Batiste and Stay Human, Ballroom Thieves
It has left out the confirmed headliners, but there's quite a few names on there that haven't been announced.
All of these names have been announced.. Are you talking about the headliners not being in the list?
Oh wow, I'm stupid. I saw a few names on there that I thought hadn't been announced, so I went to the NFF website and ctrl + f'd for the names. I didn't get any results. That's because the lineup announcements are all images, not text. I just realized that. Please ignore me lol.
However, if the Decemberists are on there and the other headliners are not, then that definitely means there's another Saturday announcement, right?
He was amazing last year, I caught him in the Museum Stage during the troubadour sessions. He kept saying what an honor it was to play Newport, and seemed genuinely flabbergasted that he was there. It was that sincerity and humbleness that really made me enjoy him.

I've seen Hozier three times over the past year and the Newport Folk performance stands out. Unlike a normal festival crowd, NO ONE said a word during his set.
Very happy to see Hozier added. I couldn't get into the Museum stage to see him but hung out by the open window and it gave me chills to hear him from there. His set on the Harbor stage was jammed and, as Katy Mae says, you could tell he was genuinely humbled by the experience. With his popularity now I would be surprised if he's not on the Fort stage this year.
These guys may have just put out my favorite folk album of the year so far (if not, a close second to Punch Brothers). Look for it on Spotify! It would be a shame if Newport did not get them.
I feel like they're going to be on an upward trajectory given their sound similarities to The Head and the Heart, the Lumineers, and The Oh Hellos. Even cooler that they're all siblings.

Saw Leon Bridges is in the new Apple ad. Don't know if it still has the same effect as when their ads broke people like Feist, but has to be pretty good for him.
Bridges is starting to get some play on The Spectrum now too.
The Spectrum might as well be NFF Radio, since half the lineup is on their playlist.
It's funny you say that , because I've noticed that too...
Another spectrum band Kaleo, can't stop listening to them! Thanks to whoever mentioned them in this thread a couple months ago!
Your welcome. I've been living on Spectrum for a few years now. Its the festie channel. They broadcast from a lot of the fests as well. On the way out of work today the DJ was talking about Bonnaroo and said how Roo has a whole block of 'Spectrum influenced artists'. That might be a tad on the vain side.
Has anyone caught the Jarryd James tune - Do you remember ? When i first heard it my thoughts were what crap.. not my thing.. Now its grown on me like a fresh bay barnacle. That deep base beat sucks me right in.
He's a very able mimic, but I think this is too derivative, just him imitating the Sam Cooke records he loves. I felt the Shakes first one was too retro too though, and then they came into their own on album #2, so hopefully he can do the same. The guy's obviously talented, but needs to come into his own a little more.
Wait a sec... are The Decemberists really the Saturday headliner? That can't be right. They pre-headlined Boston Calling last year and NFF is way bigger.

My confidence that they're the headliner is wavering, but it's not that far-fetched. Boston Calling is actually bigger in terms of headliners than NFF. Jack White aside, most recent Newport headliners (Ryan Adams, Feist, Avett Brothers in 2013) would not be BC headliners, and those that would be (Beck, MMJ) are special occasions. That being said, The Decemberists would only be a headliner because of their connection to Newport. We can hope for a final addition, but I'm more than happy with the lineup as it stands

Finally home from 'Roo! Great time this year.
Newport artists that I caught: Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn - Sounded pretty good, but it was way too hot at the time to truly enjoy them. Their cover of The Final Countdown was awesome though! Sturgill Simpson - Absolutely fantastic! I've disliked most country music for so long, but he's starting to bring me around. Strand of Oaks - Great set! Tim might be the most appreciative front man around. Bahamas - Only caught a bit of his set from behind a fence, but he sounded great as usual. Madisen Ward & The Mama Bear - I thought they were alright, but I was more into the shade I had found.
Super happy that Hozier got added! Made missing him at the farm for War On Drug much easier!
Now back to Newport. I was talking to someone at 'Roo who is in the know for Newport. *Apparently* they are still trying to book Dylan to be a part of the '65 Revisited set AND they're working on.....(drum roll).....Cat Stevens.
