I'm close with the people who run the fest. They keep it pretty tight. I have some guesses. I think MMJ/Jim James is pretty much a lock. Robert Plant is def a target. Cat Stevens is a good guess. The returning artists are the ones they really love. My guess would be Shakey, Hozier, J Roddy. I think Rayland Baxter, John Misty, Felice Brothers, Decembrists, David Wax and a few others who have been there before and they consider "family" will be back.
I would be stoked to have those three as headliners. And all of those returning acts. Just add in The Lone Bellow and some new acts and I'm set
From your lips to Newports ears please. The lone bellow add on a must. : ) When they announced a Cat Steves tour last year? we said maybeeee Newport.
In a twisted way I like the surprise of the slow release because it does give time to get to know the unknowns. Bold99 - thanks for sharing. NFF is class act and they keep it quiet better than most. Thats why it feels like an accomplishment to find one or two names before they release.
What about Drive by Truckers? There's also an emerging band from Nashville by way of Brooklyn called Swear and Shake that I love. They would be great for Newport.
Saw the Lone Bellow a month ago-- they are so fantastic live. And I'm really hoping The Oh Hellos get invited back! Two more groups on my wish list---War on Drugs and Saintseneca.

Great! Is that the first artist we've confirmed for sure (or close enough)?
Good start. K2B - how did you find Shakey last year? Quacker googled a bunch of '[insert name here] Newport Folk' and found the Devil Makes Three quote fairly early last year..
Penquin - where in VT? Both of quackers quacklets went to UVM, the eldest stayed in Burlington.
I can't remember if I did the Google trick too or if I just happened to be so obsessed with Shakey at this time last year that I was reading one of his bios and saw it mentioned.
Slightly unrelated .. ElD - have you been feeling the quakes? 5 yest and another this am centered Danielson/Plainfield CT. They said the 3.3 yest could be felt to east providence.

He posted on FB yesterday that he hadn't felt them (although maybe there were subsequent ones that he did).
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Definitely agree, the slow release of names is nice. Otherwise it's just just one huge day of every blog posting the lineup and then basically forgotten. I get why fests do it - you need those posts if you're desperate to sell 80K tickets - but I don't know why the other fests that are assured sell outs anyway (like Coachella) don't go with the slow-trickle approach. I think it makes a better experience for fans.

I work in Plainfield, maybe four miles from the epicenter of the 3.3 yesterday. I hadn't noticed anything.
Then again the building sits on top of a 4-5 foot thick concrete slab. It's gotta take something really serious to get the place shaking there.
The Lone Bellow and My Morning Jacket are confirmed for Boston Calling. So, it makes me wonder if that means they're out for Newport. I thought The Decemberists were a lock last year but I think them playing Boston Calling was why they did not play Newport.

July 16 - CAKE (Portland, ME) July 28-30 - Newport Folk (#12!) Dec 8-9 - Goosemas!
I'd also like to say that every single member of the New Basement Tapes, except for Elvis Costello, are on the Bonnaroo lineup in some fashion. Newport may be beat to the punch!

Soooo, hopeful Rooport crossover: Mumford Robert Plant MMJ Alabama Shakes Hozier Ed Helms (in some capacity) Punch Bros. Dawes TBT Bela & Abigail Jerry Douglas Shakey Houndmouth Rhiannon Pokey Bahamas Strand of Oaks The (potential) New Basement Tapes Superjam or something And fuck it, SLAYER! (acoustic set)
Boston Calling and Newport are far enough apart and cater to different audiences enough that I think both MMJ and Lone Bellow could do both. I'll be pretty surprised if the Lone Bellow aren't at Newport. I'll be seeing MMJ at BC and Roo so I would prefer a different headliner for Newport, but I definitely wouldn't complain

Bonnaroo 2015 looks an awful lot like Newport 2014 (except where the quack is Ryan Adams?)

Hey Newport Folk Festival people. Hoping to make it there one year. I was planning on going to Bonnaroo again this year but I'm not remotely thrilled with the lineup, thought I'd check out NFF and couldn't believe 3 day passes are sold out before a line up is even announced! Is it always that way? Kind of a bummer I probably wouldn't have been able to make it this year anyway but I'm curious so I can plan for the future.

It will probably be this way for the forseeable future. However as the lineup slowly starts coming out there will presumably be more and more tickets coming back on the market from people selling there's off. Basically, if you want to go you can probably find tickets at a decent price. Especially here. Hope you make it to the fort soon!
Also, not sure if you're aware, but Newport does a rolling lineup announcement where they announce artists over a long period of time. Last year the first announcement was on February 1st and the last was after Gov Ball in early June (because of a radius clause on Jack White)

I doubt Mumford and Sons every plays Newport. If it wasn't gonna happen before Babel, much less likely after. Robert Plant I don't think will play. Hozier probably won't be back again. Same goes for Dawes and TBT. Houndmouth I think played the last two years and won't be back. The rest seems possible.

Mumford decides to take a pay cut and approaches Newport to play for music's sake. Maybe Jim and Taylor convinced Marcus while in the studio?
I imagine the case was similar with Jack White although he may revere Newport and what it stands for a little more than Mumford. And while they haven't said anything about Bonnaroo being exclusive I have this feeling that it might be. I'd also love to see them at the Fort as long as the crowd was accepting of them.
After missing out on tickets, and doing some number crunching, I'm out unless something in the lineup blows me away. Even if I don't end up going, I'll probably come down to hang out one of the nights of quackclub!
I don't know if they are NFF's usual fare but, I would love to see Parkay Quarts there. Hey, I figured with last year's lineup, they could be a possibility!
