The depth of this lineup really shows These are my bands each day Friday: mmj, Decemberists, dfa1979, Ratatat, rudimental, st Vincent Saturday: Ryan Adams, chromeo, future islands, Conor oberst, bjork, sbtrkt Sunday: Lana, tame impala, war on drugs, Noel Gallagher, hot chip, flying lotus
I can't wait to find out when: white lung, royal blood, the districts, and benjamin booker
I also feel like having a Bjork on this lineup is totally not being talked about enough. I love the strength of the undercard, totally meh on the top 3 headliners but bjork is by far my number one show of this weekend. I have wanted to see her for so long....Decemberists as well.
Just noticed that they metioned during their ama that they have a policy against booking the same act in back to back years. Pretty cool.
I first read that and was kind of annoyed, but the more I think about it I really like it. Yes it'd be cool to see some of my favorites year after year but switching it up is turning out to be way more fun than I thought. I've already found several artists I wouldn't have checked out on my own that I can't wait to see.
Basically I want to slap myself for ever thinking this year wouldn't be great. So stoked for 2015 y'all
I tried to synthesize the answers to get lineups for each day, here's what I got:
Friday - Drake, Decemberists, Florence, MMJ, Charlie XCX, St Vincent, Ratatat, Rudimental, Gorgon City, Twin Shadow, DFA 1979, Mo, The Districts
Saturday - Deadmau5, Ryan Adams, Bjork, Conor Oberst, Flume, Marina and the Diamonds, Sharon Van Etten, Kiesza, Little Dragon, SBTRKT, Future Islands, Chromeo
Sunday - Black Keys, Lana Del Rey, Tame Impala, War on Drugs, Noel Gallagher, Big Gigantic, Flying Lotus, Weird Al, Hot Chip, Sturgill Simpson, A-Trak
Any additions?
Updated it a little for you
Updated to add The Districts on Friday, per their website dates.
The Facebook page is teasing the daily breakdown is coming soon. They usually don't announce that till April. Pretty cool. Hope that means single days will be up soon as well.
Why is governor's ball getting lost in everything? I mean yes Headliners are semi weak. Though one could argue with Drake (headlining Coach) Deadhmau5 (headling Roo). Then all these wish lists for Firefly and Artist additions include tons of people That are already ON Governor's ball (St. Vincent, Hot Chip, Tame Impala, Ratatat, Fucking Bjork). Like Governor's Ball has a pretty fucking dope line up going by what everyone is wishing for and yet no one is talking about Gov Ball... Where the love people

I've thought this for a few weeks as I made my way through the lineup on Spotify. There are a lot of bands/acts I want to see and I'm sure some of them will conflict. Just off the top of my head, I would want to see the following acts assuming no conflicts: black keys lana MMJ bjork noel gallagher tame impala st vincent DFA 1979 charli xcx sturgill simpson angus/julia sharon van etten vance joy mayer hawthorne j roddy & biz ben booker strand of oaks the districts
And that doesn't even allow for others I'm not opposed to, like Drake, Florence, Decemberists, etc...

The headliners are underwhelming and it's certainly not as stacked as last year, but the undercard is pretty solid. Quite a few unique "gets" that aren't at many U.S. festivals this year. And even the ones who are heavily touring the festival circuit are quality choices.

This x100. Gball is one of only two fests I have tickets for. I'm very excited for this fest.
Yeah but all headliners are Underwhelming, its just so funny seeing these people wishing for all these artists it seems and there on all this line up. I must have seen Hot Chip, St. Vincent, and Tame Impala mention dozens of times in multiple threads they're all at Gov Ball.

The problem for me is that nearly every act I want to see that's playing Gov Ball are playing venues/festivals closer to me or have already played relatively recently. My Morning Jacket, Noel Gallagher, Tame Impala, St. Vincent, Hot Chip, DFA1979 etc and the only decent, exclusive get is Bjork. Still waiting on Ratatat (though I'll see them at Primavera) and Little Dragon.
I think the Gov Ball line-up will be a lot of fun for those going, but its a far cry from last year with the only Strokes, Outkast and Jack White in the Northeast (though Jack White did announce a show after the fact).

that arguement can literally be said about anyone. Artists tour, if i wanted to i can see any of the artists at a venue closer to me. This is all those acts on a festival lineup, and again they're being requested by everyone in other threads still.
And to compare with last year, Outkast played Firefly and Jack White played Roo, so on similar scale with the headliners this year.

GOV BALL ALL DAY SON
Conflicting headliners though. I believe they already said MMJ is playing opposite Drake. I don't mind Deadmau5, but if he's not your cup of tea they'll be two other shows going on during his set. Black Keys are mediocre but that day is all about Noel Gallagher and Ratatat for me.
Throw in Hot Chip, St Vincent, Tame Impala, friggin Bjork, and a ton other solid undercard acts and this is easily one of the best lineups thus far.

Wait, two shows during Deadmau5? How do you mean? I would assume, based on last year's setup, that there's only one show opposite (on Honda/Big Apple stage, can't remember which one).

You could say that about any festival and that's exactly why people aren't really focused on GovBall this year. Its a perfectly fine line-up with nothing that really stands out (again, aside from Bjork who is doing 6 NYC shows already). Coachella and Bonnaroo may not have mind-blowing line-ups, but at least they have some decent, unique acts and have the added bonus of having very vibrant and distinctive atmospheres.
And just compared to my location (I'm speaking purely from my own perspective), Firefly is double the distance and Bonnaroo is even further away. Not really comparable.
Not trying to shit on Gov Ball, but I can't help but be disappointed after last year.

Anyone on this thread been to both Governor's Ball and Firefly the last few years and able to compare the two? Firefly is closer to me and fits better with my schedule (I'm a teacher) but I think the Firefly lineup may be disappointing this year.

I have been to both every year both have existed. I prefer Governors Ball. The grounds aren't as expansive as Firefly. But I think it draws an older, less obnoxious crowd. The lineups are consistently booked with interesting/rare acts. I feel like Firefly just plays it safe and books the same artists that play everywhere all year round.
Plus, NYC! The fest is what you make of it. You can spend half the day visiting MoMA or hitting the biergarten in Brooklyn or something. You can hit a nightclub or go to an aftershow or do whatever you feel like doing once the fest is over. You can sleep in comfort (hopefully) It's much more of an experience where it is what you make of it. Firefly is prepackaged.

Many thanks for the reply! I could definitely use an older, less obnoxious crowd. I'm 34 and my roommate is 32. I have been to all three Fireflys and the people have largely been very nice, but there are soooooo many bros it's ridiculous. And the lineup is filled with so much mediocre indie-pop and c-level dj's. I still like to hear bands. Last year had Beck, whom I had never seen before, and enough artists that I liked to keep my interest for most of 4 days. This year I'm not getting the feeling that Firefly will keep my interest

Wish I could spend more time in NYC if I go, but the school year is still going even though my seniors will have graduated. But it would be a good way to reconnect with my NYC friends with a chance to get together later in the summer.

I'd argue for Firefly 100%. I've done Gov Ball the past two years (just one day each year) and Firefly the past three years and can confidently say Gov Ball misses out on the magic of a camping festival - there really isn't much of a communal experience, just hanging with those you're already going with. Not to bash Gov Ball, have had a good time.. and Saturday of last year was fantastic but there's that missing element.
I guess to each is own, I saw someone say that they preferred Gov Ball because of an older crowd - I'd say that Gov Ball had the more bro/douchey type persona's around and that Firefly was much more friendly (not that Gov Ball wasn't). I have to imagine it would cost a lot more for you to get up to NYC and stay somewhere, too.
PS I don't think the Firefly lineup will be disappointing this year.
EDIT: summer breezy = a word that rhymes with rouchey and starts with D, damn restrictions..

Thanks for the input! I found when I passed 30 I was too old for general camping. Been doing RV at Firefly last 2 years but that takes away a lot of the communal vibes. I'm going to be doing a hotel (or dorm room at FF) either way. The folks at Firefly have been indeed friendly, even 99% of the bros. Good info that the brotient does not decline by attending Governor's Ball.
From my experience starting at Bonnaroos, it seems like bros discovered music festivals east of California around 2010.

I may do a day pass on Sunday and try and catch Black Keys, War On Drugs, Tame Impala, Weird Al, Sturgill Simpson, and whoever else looks good that day.
Saturday with Conor, J. Roddy, and Ryan Adams is really nice but I probably can't do both days. Friday missing out on MMJ (cuz of work) is lame. Oh well. Hopefully I get to see them at Roo.
Went all 3 days last year and it was my favorite festival of the year.
Pissed I can't go Friday or Saturday because of my sisters wedding. But I am happy Sunday is IMO the best day. I will definitely be getting a Sunday day pass.
Now that the Firefly Lineup is out, i once again am seeing cries and outrage for Hot Chip, St. Vincent, Tame Impala, The War on Drugs......... Gov Ball literally has everyone that people are 'asking for' yet people are upset about the vibezzzzzz or not being able to camp. Oh well.... GOV BALL ALL DAY!!!!

I would love to do Gov Ball, but the cost of transportation + lodging would really increase the overall expense of the festival for me. I wish I had more friends in NY!

i hear you dude, main reason i can afford it is because i got a few friends up there. Ever think of trying AirBnb? Sometimes can find cheaper than hotel prices there.
