I don't understand the disdain for Florence. I like her songs enough and thought she was amazing in 2012. She has enough hit songs to warrant a headlining slot and she has a pretty great voice.
I think Florence is unbelievably talented and happens to also appeal to my personal tastes, but even if she didn't, I don't really understand how any music lover could not at the least recognize her talent. That voice, goddamn.
I think a lot of people think she over sings. However, I thought she was wonderful when I saw her in 2010. Her last album didn't do much for me.

I wouldn't judge Florence's new album on what singles have been released so far. St. Jude is kind of a sleeper I agree. What kind of Man is a nice jam. When she was releasing Ceremonials, she released What the Water Gave me as a teaser then Shake It Out a week or two before the release. We still have till June, so I think were in for some amazement.
I don't really listen to much indie, but she its beyond amazing. If she were ever to headline Hangout Fest, that would be the year I would go Super Vip HA!

lol basically my problem with it is the volume tops out and it distorts the sound quality plus the drums sound like trash cans. I'm pretty sure they were trying to go for a raw feel but it just sounds bad to me. The songs themselves are good though and really good live. Especially "The End of the Line" and "That Was Just Your Life".

There's nothing "indie" about Florence and the Machine.

People often mistake it as a blanket term for a genre, not bands signed to independent labels. Considering she's on Universal, ya, not indie.

Well, she broke out on an indie label, but I think he was just using it the same way someone might use "hipster" to describe anything that's not mainstream.

I suppose I could follow that logic. I personally would consider her mainstream, but maybe that's just me.

As would I. "Hipster" is mainstream, thus the irony.

This. Yeah i didn't really know what to classify her as haha... British indie rock pop fusion clash eh?

She definitely falls in that "Hipster"/"Indie" ( ) mainstream. Not mainstream in the way Katy Perry or Taylor Swift are, more like in the way Mumford & Sons are.

I impulsively bought two Friday passes for this. I guess I gotta find a place to stay and someone to go with now. Excited to see Macca for the first time though.

Looking at VRBO for some places to stay for the weekend and a lot of them are relatively close to Grant Park. How is the area around the festival itself? Having never been to Chicago before I don't wanna take any chances and end up in a bad part of town.
Got a Friday ticket!! Looks like I'll be going to my first Lolla. Would love to do the whole weekend, but I'm off on Fridays and the one day line up is fantastic for my tastes. I'd like to go Saturday too, but nothing there I'm heartbroken to miss. SO MUCH EXCITE!

Stay on the northside. Anywhere in north or downtown is pretty much guaranteed to be kosher

Is there like a beginners guide to Lolla or something? Never been and I have a few questions. How many stages are there? How far are they from each other, is it easy to split sets? What time is the curfew? When can we expect a schedule?

I last went in 2010 and I think the layout has slightly changed since then, but I remember the trek from the south main stage to the north main stage was brutal. Leaving Lady Gaga's set to catch the rest of The Strokes, it took about 20 minutes to get there.
