Damn. Having to pick between them really, really stings. What time do HL sets usually start? BC Paul can easily play 2.5-3 hours, that's how long his set actually is. I'm not sure if The Weeknd could fill a 2.5 set. I mean, I guess we'll see how long his set is at Coach, but I just can't see him playing for that long. He has the material, but I think a 2.5 hour set from him just seems long. I'm going to have anxiety about this until the schedule comes out. Because I honestly don't know who I'm going to pick...
I agree with Pale Hose. The Weeknd is probably getting 90 minutes. That, or they do what they did with Spoon > Calvin Harris last year (i.e both got an hour and 15 minutes). That option, with either alt-J or Alabama Shakes, is not entirely out of the question.
The headliner sets end at 10, so the Weeknd probably starts at 8:30 or 8:45. So if Macca starts somewhere from 7-7:30 (as would be proper considering it's Sir Paul) you could easily catch a sizeable chunk of Paul and then book it north and see the Weeknd's entire set.

Yeah as long as you haul it down Columbus you can probably make to to the weekend in 10-15 minutes. Depending how intoxicated you are.

Or just, you know, go by Buckingham, which has far less traffic in my experience.
When I split Jack White and Justice, I got to Justice in ~5 minutes going by the fountain. I didn't miss much of anything. Then I went over to the Grove and finished with the last few songs from Childish Gambino. I've mentioned this before in here awhile ago but if you really want to split headliners, it's not THAT hard and you don't miss THAT much. Just don't get too close to the stages to where you have to make it out of a huge crowd. You can very easily catch over an hour of Paul (if he plays for 2-2.5 hours which I assume he will) and then catch all of The Weeknd if it's staggered like The Cure/Phoenix in 2013.
I've seen Jack White 3 times now and my favorite show of his was at the Masonic Temple in Detroit. His setlist at Lolla was good but I'll probably never get another shot at seeing Justice so I took the opportunity. Jack tours all the time and will play Detroit all the time.

Is there any info on these so called "after shows"? Cost? Location? Artists? I haven't been to Lolla and have considered going but with seeing prior year's schedule conflicts (Arctic Monkeys/Zedd/Eminem for Examplr) and the early curfew really made me hesitant as I'm more familiar with later fests like Firefly and Roo. Thanks
I'll help with the whole Sir Paul/Weeknd problem. Anybody who thinks they can span the park in ~5 minutes is insane or lying. It's over a mile across (10 minutes minimum moving very quickly WITHOUT the huge crowd), and the crowd for McCartney will be MASSIVE. So go see the aging legend and see Weeknd when you can. Maybe it won't be that night, maybe it'll be at another show or festival. But planning to leave one of the few true living legends at the outset is a bad move. Wait and see how you feel once the show starts. Maybe you go... maybe you stay. But missing the epic singalong of "Hey Jude" from a guy who might well be dead before he ever plays Chicago again is probably the wrong call.

You have a way about you that kinda annoys the piss out of me. You're trying to be helpful, yet you come off as a pretentious dick.
To reiterate what started this whole conversation. I've seen Paul McCartney 3 times now on this tour. I love him. He puts on an amazing show. Every show is the same tho. The Weeknd has become one of my favorite artists in the past year, maybe more, and I've yet to see him and he seems to rarely do "regular" tours. Maybe now that he's supposed to be releasing a new album and has gained a little more attention he'll tour on his own, but as of yet he's been very elusive for me. Paul doesn't seem to be "on the outs". His shows every night have tons of energy and he still seems to love what he's doing. MACCA in a festival setting is unrivaled. I could very well get there and decide it's not worth leaving. But to make it sound like its a non-issue to not entertain your other options is silly. I have seen Paul, I have seen him in a festival setting, I have seen him 7th row in an arena. Every single time was magical. But for me, it'll probably be an in the moment decision. I am in no way missing all of Paul to camp out for The Weeknd, but I also really want to see him. The Weeknd's Coachella set will also be a factor in my decision.
Just lessen your condescending tone, it'll do you wonders.

I am in no way missing all of Paul to camp out for The Weeknd, but I also really want to see him. .
I doubt you'll have to camp to get a good spot. His crowd will probably be rather small, unless I'm seriously underestimating his comparative draw to Macca, FlyLo, et al.

I had no idea he was even HL status yet, so anything is possible at this point. Really, I'm shocked that he's HL opposite Paul McCartney. That just sounds crazy to me.

I'm shocked he's headlining period. I'm also surprised by Macca, Metallica, and Sam Smith (especially after last year) but whatever.

I get that some people view Macca as grandpa music and want an alternative - but until this lineup, I thought The Weeknd was still playing nightclubs and amphitheatres. I can't keep up with these whippersnappers and their *quickly Googles The Weeknd* - wait, PBRNB? This is a thing now?
You guys, The Weeknd is a really big deal. Proudly declaring your ignorance of this fact isn't a good look.
Oh, The Weeknd is fantastic, and lately he's clearly been blowing up and turning into a "big deal". But I had no idea he was HL big already . I'm glad I'm not the only one who is kinda taken aback by that.
Yeah but he's only getting the headliner bump because Lolla blew their wad on the top two. He's not filling up arenas, at least not yet.
I agree with the second part, but isn't he a HL at Coach too? Or at least playing a HL spot on Saturday... But I guess Coach always kinda does what they want when it comes to headliners...
My pictures aren't time stamped so you can choose to think I'm lying if you feel like it but I have made it across the park in 5-10 minutes. The fountain area was practically deserted and I had nothing in my way and jogged the whole way. I stayed back for Jack White (my picture is of the screen) and got up closer for Justice and saw Childish Gambino on the Grove to end the night.

I get that, and I knew he was getting big - but like Monie, I didn't know he's gotten that big so quickly. He only released his debut LP after I moved back, and he's definitely not exploded here quite like he has back in the US.

You came to the exact same fucking conclusion I did and still called me annoying, pretentious and condescending? Who's the asshole here?
You asked. Some dipshit said you could make it across the park in 5 minutes, and you abso-fucking-lutely cannot, even without the ridiculous crowd that will be lined up in what is essentially an unopposed headliner situation. So you asked a question I answered here, made a ridiculously stupid assumption in the ACL thread, and for that I'm the dick. Go fuck yourself. You're trying to be an asshole and succeeding completely.

Pot calling a white kettle black, a bit much?*
*Yes, yes, I know I should talk.
Wait. Are you calling me an asshole too? This is why you get no slack.

No.
He is calling you a asshole, which you are not. Hence the "white kettle" (a white kettle isn't a black, duh).
Thats what I thought! That's the second time that phrase had been said to me today so I just wanted to make sure. Minus the colors part, never heard someone say it like that though.
