We had an amazing Hangout 2016. Like most here we thought this wasn't the best lineup but ended up being a great time again. with 3 acts playing at a time there is always something worth seeing, if you don't like it move to something else. Bought loyalty for 2017. We have been to every Hangout and have never had chapstick, sunscreen or anything confiscated. Looking forward to 2017, 51 more weeks.
Sucks to hear of so many people having issues with security. This year was a complete joke for me, barely got tapped on my sides, just had to get my stuff out of my bag. Took 2 secs. Was the least invasive they've ever been on me.
That's great for you! What gate were you coming in?
I remember the good old days of just being waved through the VIP line. *sighs* Get off my lawn!
west gate and main gate i went in 2 times each with no problems at all. Thursday west line was crazy and the one security lady suggested we go to main and we got in there after like 10 min

My only major complaint this year is that security and the cops were pretty hard core this year everytime my group and I entered. They were terrible I understand doing your job but some of the cops were complete assholes while searching. But other then that had a blast this year for my 4th time. Can't wait for next year and hoping more of a 2012 or 2014 lineup.
1.Run the Jewels- Were so awesome live and a ton of fun easily my favorite set all weekend.
2. No one else is gonna say it but I will. I was one of the few looking forward to panic at the disco but when announced to headline didn't see that being great.... I was wrong they honestly killed it live and as a headlining set!!!
3. Everyone also hated on the Weeknd I liked him before and didn't see him being a headliner tho but also wrong a stove credit he brought it!!!!
4. Florence and the Machine- honestly just amazing to see and watch listen to.
5. The Revivalist- that night show they ended up getting because of the weather that was such a great set!
Ya know what, yall did great reviews. I don't feel like doing one aside from the brief one earlier.
a few notes: I really liked BMI being on beach honestly but it was challenging with a few of the bigger crowds and some sound bleed. The other challenge that occurred is that the beach was ALWAYS flooded with foot traffic. With all this weird shit everywhere like a bigger Malibu tent, BMI stage, 2 beach access operations, camp hangout, chill zone or whatever, there wasn't an area on the beach that was just completely empty and serene which was super appealing when I first came to hangout. You had 2 huge stages, and this void where, on occasion, you found peace between the chaos.
Frisking was def tamer but man, the logic of some of the staff there was ass backwards.
This was my least favorite year, although I loved the pre-party. I just had a shit ton of fun at every act. I know Matt n Kim have little appeal to some, and there are certainly better acts out there, but going from Taxi to Dicky to Freedia to M&K just felt right.
2014 was def my favorite with Killers, Outkast and STS9 over the Keys. then 2015 w Foo, ZZ and Beck then 2013 with Tom Petty, Stevie Wonder and KOL. then this year.
2016 was a definite letdown compared to the previous years. I'm still not sure if it was because of the crowds or in spite of them.
I agree, but other than it taking an hour and a half to get through the gate on Friday, I didn't really have an issue with the crowds. And I was barely touched all weekend long by security. By Sunday all I had to do was take my hat off and spin around. (Must be my grandmotherly appearance.) It was more an issue of the line up and conflicts for me. Seems like everybody I wanted to see was playing at the same time as somebody else I wanted to catch.
Top to bottom this was def a down year but I enjoyed Foals and Florence closing out 2 of my nights as much as anyone previously. More than Beck/Foo last year, more than any combo from 2013 too. 2014 and 2012 are close though if I wanted to compare to Killers/Outkast and Chili Peppers/Jack White.
looking forward to watching Florence on the stream tonight. they didnt show it friday and Sat only had Cage and PTM that i wanted to watch, Cage looked like a great time, going to Leon was a tough choice but glad I got to see it in some fashion.
Where are these streams? Is it only on that AXS channel I don't get?
I think so. And I'm almost done on hating on Hangout 2016. But usually AXS ends up with pro-shot and probably soundboard on their YouTube channel. I tried to search for Hangout 2016 on YouTube a couple of days ago, and it was full of Panic at the Disco, Weeknd, The Chainsmokers, Fetty, X Ambassadors, etc. There was one or two Lenny clips, a couple of Florence and Foals tunes and a bunch of short clips of Snails who looks to have been the funnest EDM DJ of the weekend. I guess people will be offloading more, but I spent more time scrolling than watching. Hopefully whenever the full sets of Portugal, Cage, Florence, etc. are released, they'll put 'em up like Paladia/MTV always did.

Same here! They didn't even make us take stuff out of our bags! They just patted them down. I assumed it was bc the crowds were so big.
Also, did anyone else feel like there were less water stations this year? They seemed hard to find and very sloooow moving.

Been watching the,Flo replay tonight and realizing i missed much less than i thought i did.
I have agreed with most all reviews. My wife and her sister lost their minds during lenny and none of us saw it coming. I will say that the wailers were the most bankable set of the weekend and they totally delivered. And Leon Bridges was much more energetic and fun than i expected. (and the girls dig him.)
Looking at the crowd, you can tell this is totally different festival. =\
That was a good one! Need more like this next year. There were definatly sound issues but not enough to ruin the show.
We're you at this one? Sound seemed off at times in the video. I'd love for them to be back in 2017, along w STS9, Diarrhea Planet as returners but...who knows. The only rockin harder shit this year was Foals for sure, followed by I guess Bass Drum, HEALTH, Silversun, Bully, C Barnett but nothing quite dark like QOTSA.
With that being said, I bought ACL weekend II tickets this morning. 4 Headliners Id want to see that I know I can skip the EDM that will be competing (Radiohead, Mumford, Kendrick Lamar, LCD) + Willie Nelson. 2nd chance at Miike Snow, another chance to see Foals, plus LL Cool J will be dope. Add in M83, Nathaniel Rateliff, Local Natives, A Paak, Flying Lotus. Bomba Estero is on the line up so Ill be looking out for Big Will again! Fuck being at work. krisplettuce you goin?
EDIT: Did Foals play Birch Tree at Hangout? I swear I don't remember hearing that song.
