I'm waiting to post in the rating thread and the Top 10 thread until I've spent more time with the undercard that's new to me, FWIW. Not sure how many others do that too. Learning the new-to-me bands is one of my favorite parts.
If you like this lineup as it is, then I am happy for you.
If you don't like the lineup, but believe the additions might cure what you don't like about it, then I would recommend tempering those expectations. Ok, the lineup was earlier than usual this year, but it already contains 90+ acts. History has taught us that we cannot reasonably rely on lineup additions to have a significant impact on any Bonnaroo lineup. It is rare, and a fool's errand. I recommend only buying a ticket on Saturday if you have resolved that the current lineup is worth the price of admission to you.
Yea, additions can be a mixed bag. Some years they are mindblowing. Some years they have one or two great acts and a few other filler bands. I think some years we've only got cafe acts and no real big rounds of additions.

i created a spotify playlist of people i wanna see plus people i don't know but have heard some good things about on here (mostly of genres i'm into). and play it on random for a while and if a song really sticks out to my ears while i'm listening i investigate further. i may still miss acts this way, but you can't see everybody
Tame Impala, St. Vincent, Beck. All touring, all with open dates.
Great point. The other acts, too, but those three would have pushed this lineup over the edge for me. I saw your other post in the Coachella thread that also helped me see your side of thinking with the acts that Coachella got that Roo didn't.
That was all that I wanted. Mostly Beck. Seen St Vincent & Tame Imapala before but would love to again

There's twice as many bands I would see, so I'm sorry if you aren't into it. Not listing Atomic Bomb is crazy btw.
Sorry, this lineup is lame. And judging by the reactions around here, for once I'm not alone in saying it. Even the acts that are good/great on this lineup for the most part are either going to be everywhere this year or were everywhere last year.
Pretty sure you would find anyone willing to jump on the "this lineup is lame" every year. Its not like this is the first year that 100% of the board didnt love the lineup
I've attended Bonnaroo the last 4 years and will again be attending this year but only because I purchased presale tickets. The lineup just doesn't do it for me this year, and I honestly don't mind the headliners at all.
The undercard doesn't really have any up-tempo EDM, indie-pop, or synth pop. I struggle to see how they're going to move 80,000 tickets this year. There's nothing on this lineup that would make a casual music fan drive 8hrs and sleep in a field for 4 days.
I'm baffled as to why they decided to raise ticket prices with a lineup like this. The average festival goer is not gonna shell out $400 for this when there's probably a closer festival that's decent enough for $150.
that's exactly what anyone not satisfied should be hoping for. because money talks (or the lack thereof), and if not many pay the money something may change. it's certainly doubtful, but i sure do want the organizers to know how shitty this lineup is for $400. so i hope others who aren't satisfied speak with their wallet.
this would be my 11th bonnaroo. i cannot think of a worse group of headliners in those 11 years. i am not that hard to please i don't think (i like to think, anyway). i don't need a paul mccartney every year. i just need something to make me say wow, that sounds like a really fun set. there is 0 here that looks like any thought or consideration went into it in my opinion. the more i look at it the more angry i get at the idea ticket prices were raised this year. i am glad i have somewhere like this to come and vent. it's weird because i feel like bonnaroo is an old friend and it makes me mad because i have come to expect more, and better from this festival. just my two cents.

Examples of what you considered "up beat tempo EDM"? Just for my own curiosity - Not really something Roo has ever done so Im not sure why that would be in people expectations
I feel like there has to be at least one addition in the 11-20 range. They added Rodrigo y Gabriela with CUBA late in 2012 and they were billed high on the main stage. Empire of the Sun was a good addition in 2013. But yeah, nothing too significant from here on out probably.
I don't know about that. Sure, I don't want to get my hopes up too much, but they announced so much earlier than usual this year - makes me think they kind of rushed to drop the lineup because so many other fests were. And therefore we really might get a few notable acts thru Additions.
I hope so! There's no way they haven't used the time period from mid-January to Valentine's Day to finish booking artists before announcing the lineup. Would be great if they gave us the biggest second phase ever but I won't hold my breath waiting for that.
What were the additions last year? It felt like they dropped the whole lineup on us at once.
I think Horn nailed it. Look, unless you're a complete waste, you'll have fun at a big fest. But since that's almost a given, that shouldn't be the baseline for judging whether or not a festival nailed it with the lineup.
One last note on the "general consensus" thing, using the completely scientific "Rate the Lineup" poll:
Right now, 81/154 rate this a "6" or lower. That's 52.5% of respondents.
Only 17% of respondents think this lineup warrants an "8" or greater. Approximately 30% give it a "7."
So basically, the majority of the people responding think this is a "D" or lower. The grade getting the largest response was a 7, so more people think this lineup is a "C" than any other grade.

Wolfgang Gartner, Zedd, A Trak, Clockwork, Kaskade, Major Lazer, Big G, and Porter Robinson are all sets I enjoyed that Roo has booked the past couple years.
Outside of Bassnectar and Deadmau5 I don't really see anything like that on the lineup. If I'm missing something please point it out to me. I'm excited for ODESZA but its not really rage out music. Same thing with FlyLo, Tycho, and Caribou. Sorry, guess I like just a little cheese in my EDM.

i am glad to see some people like this lineup. i remember last year i saw people saying they thought THAT lineup was weak and it blew my mind. to be on the other side this time around sucks. also, to not have this festival to look forward to this summer sucks. hoping lolla will get my $. excited to see that lineup.

i'm right there with you man. i do want some of the uptempo "cheese" as well. there's def something missing from the edm line they had the last couple years. they def went deeper.
enjoying jungle right now though, synthy
edit: i feel like we could get an act along those lines in the addition, but never hold out for a good addition

I'm just confused as to who their target market is for this lineup, its almost bizarre. The younger crowd Deadmau5 will attract will almost def pick Gov Ball over Roo due to their younger-skewing undercard.
Billy Joel...well, if you really want to see him he has a monthly residency at MSG in NYC. Am I underestimating the appeal of Mumford? Almost 3 years since new material from them...
Kendrick is playing other smaller fests this spring that are much less expensive for Roo. Outside of that what is exclusive or won't be at Firefly/Hangout/Lolla/Made in America?
You could argue Atomic Bomb is a get but really? How many casual music fans under the age of 30 could tell you anything about that act, or even David Byrne in general?
The undercard doesn't really have any up-tempo EDM
idk who that is....jamie xx? i'm excited to see some of the edm that i've never really listened to much. idk what jungle is but digging their sound a ton right now
edit: i see now it's rustie, never heard of him but on my list to look up
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
