Gambino is really popular. I get that. Hozier is too I suppose, but has what, one album?
Two of our headliners only have two albums each, currently.
I know they're both working on another but it's still pretty crazy to think.
Which is why it is weird that they are headliners and the others are billed so high. But IMO, I think that we make it more about the amount of music that they have out, when in reality its more about how popular they are. Think of Lolla in the 90s when it traveled around the country. The headliners were all bands that were newer to the scenes, it wasn't throw back headliners.
Could we borrow some shiz from Shaky Knees please?
Look at the Shaky Knees festival and try to tell me Bonnaroo didn't drop the ball this year with their undercard. So pissed I bought pre sale tickets this year.
You guys seriously want Zedd and Kaskade back? Gimme this crop of electronic artists any day.
didn't say i wanted them back, just pointing out the style we're talking about, aka cheese to most people. we're just surprised there isn't at least one more name similar to them besides mau5/nectar

Just saying hozier plays sold out shows and is all over the radio. He is a household name right now. Also Kendrick and Mumford are still band that college aged kids love
Sorry, this lineup is lame. And judging by the reactions around here, for once I'm not alone in saying it. Even the acts that are good/great on this lineup for the most part are either going to be everywhere this year or were everywhere last year.
Pretty sure you would find anyone willing to jump on the "this lineup is lame" every year. Its not like this is the first year that 100% of the board didnt love the lineup
But it's 154 of probably the festivals biggest fans.
As long as there's a handful of artists I want to see each day I'm happy. There have been years Im excited for half the lineup and I'm lucky if I actually make it to 5 shows a day. Im sure some solid additions will be added, hopefully a nice comedy act or two as well. I know I always have the Christmas barn if I need to add some weird shit into my Roo experience.
Not sure what they're going for with Hozier billed so high. Do they see him as the new Bright Eyes/Ray LaMontagne or something?
He's insanely popular with a massive single, yet he has a guitar so they can book him and not be accused of pandering to the masses with radio pop, even though that's exactly what he is. That's what they're going for.

To me he screams Lumineers in 2013. Billed insanely high on the strength of a single hit. I think you're onto something with that theory haha

this shaky knees lineup makes it that much harder to justify the booking decisions of bonnaroo this year. i want to see 90% of that shaky knees lineup. with the raise in ticket prices for bonnaroo i am actually offended now after seeing this festival's lineup.

One hit wonder...his record is incredibly boring. Who cost all the money on this lineup? How do tickets go up $50 yet it seems like the lineup is worse than previously.
Seems like this will be a year on enjoying the atmosphere and discovering new acts. I honestly have never listened to 90% of this years lineup so obviously I am "meh" about it. Despite the unmatched atmosphere at Roo it is hard to justify a price of nearly $400 after fees and shiz. The undercard is usually great and I appreciate bringing all of these solid acts to one location but for MANY OF US the extra money we pay for Bonnaroo vs. some other fests is because of the headliners that we rarely have an opportunity to see.
I can see other fests stealing a lot of casual fans due to cheaper prices/certain acts this year. The majority of people on here are knowledgeable about a TON of different artists but most casual music fans aren't.
Example) I have no idea who/what this Atomic Bomb thing is. A few people are freaking out about them but a good amount of people looking at the lineup will pass over them without having any idea who it is.

God that Shaky Knees line-up is so damn good.
I really want to do Roo because it has a lot of draws for me besides the line-up, but its kind of pathetic how a mid-tier fest like that completely puts this one to shame, specially after Roo raised ticket pries
Honestly there's not one act on the line-up this year that I'm super excited or dying to see that I haven't already seen. There's more then a few that'd have me stupid excited on that SK line-up.

Yeah, except the Lumineers' album was pretty good, and was certainly the cream of the crop of the recent "radio banjo" explosion.

Its David Byrne (though im not for sure if he will be with them at this), a dude from LCD Soundsystem, a dude from Hot Chip, and some others playing the music of this cool 80's Nigerian funk musician. It's a really cool get, one of the very few exciting gets they had this year
Guys the raise in prices had nothing to do with them spending more money on a lineup this has been discussed many times. I am let down not because I thought the lineup would be "So amazing because the ticket price went up!" I'm let down because Tame Impala Beck Modest mouse St. Vincent Lorde The Decemberists Ryan Adams The Weeknd Todd Terje Jagwar Ma Alt-J Grimes Primus The strokes Future islands FKA twigs Parquet courts Ratatat Hot Chip Noel Gallagher And a lot of others are all playing festivals this year and Bonnaroo didn't get a single one. There are some names on there that would fit perfectly to fill in exactly what this lineup is lacking and they failed to capitalize on it. They dropped the ball. Just my opinion of course.
Overall I enjoy this lineup, though it doesn't have the WOW factor that last year's did. I like 8 out of the top 9 acts and I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun at those shows, but they're not particularly exciting for me. I think part of it also might have to do with how much more we knew on lineup day than we did last year. I remember last year watching the BLAM show and being blown away by VW, Phoenix, Skrillex, Kaskade, Zedd, and Lauryn Hill in particular. I don't think anyone was heavily speculating those at the time (maybe VW and Phoenix), so that made the lineup drop more exciting. While this year's definitely isn't as stacked as last year's, I'm pretty sure deadmau5, Flo + the Mac, MMJ, Bassnectar, and EWF would have given me similar reactions if I hadn't already known about them ahead of time. As for the headliners...Joel/Mumf/mau5/Kendrick surely doesn't make me go wow like Elton/Kanye/Jack White did, but I'm pretty sure that collectively I'll have just as much fun.
There are indeed a few acts I wish we had gotten - Ratatat, St. Vincent, Tame Impala in particular - but there are always a few oversaturated acts that Roo usually either doesn't book or just books the next year, so that doesn't surprise me. I'll just have to go to GovBall and then I'll have caught pretty much every act I want to see this summer.

They definitely dropped the ball.
10 of those acts you mentioned would immediately jump to my number 1 for Roo.
I feel like with the earliest lineup release, what looks to me like fewer acts initially announced than normal, and even some of the listing on the poster, personally i believe points to some awesome additions. I know you're all bummed about the bands that you wished were there that are touring. But maybe bonnaroo is going to try and do something different and maybe announce bigger lineup additions. Maybe they consistently saw people let down by additions in the past (i know i wasn't let down, but constantly here people complain about additions not being what THEY want), and want to save bigger names or those.
Personally i really enjoy the lineup, lot of stuff i can't wait to see on the lineup, and can't wait to discover more. This Atomic Bomb! group sounds amazing and can't wait or that. I get the frustration, but what festival am i going to be able to listen to Earth Wind & Fire, then walk over and see Slayer, then end the night with Run The Jewels.
Gonna take a quote from a Super Bowl Winning QB and just say "One word, R-E-L-A-X".

these are my exact same thoughts. totally agreed.
I'll add that there are a lot of acts on the lineup that I like, but not a ton that I love. and a lot of the ones I'm excited for/should be excited for haven't released new material in 1, 2, 3 years, so I don't think that's helping my excitement levels, either.
I know I'm going to have a great time and will get to see a lot of awesome stuff on the farm - I think scheduling (and new albums and discovering) will really help me get more excited - but it's also building my case that I need to attend another festival as well to get the shows I'm dying to see.

Shaky Knees has the best lineup so far of any fest released (though of course it is more genre specific). If SK was camping, I would be 110% in, but I'm still gonna wait a bit and see how additions stack up and the day-by-day schedule for SK, etc.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
