Could the lack luster lineup be due to the new Toronto festival AC is putting on. I just find it hard to believe that the lineup is going to get significantly better, you would think they would put the best names in the initial announcement to win people over
Bonnaroo gave it a good effort, but it clearly needs to work harder if it wants to be in the same league as Shaky Knee's.... SMH
There are so many acts I wish Roo had snagged that SK did... Not to mention great acts like James Blake and Neutral Milk that I STUPIDLY missed last year at Roo and will forever bemoan.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Well, it is very genre-specific of course - not nearly as much variety as Roo. But for what it is trying to do (mostly book indie/alt rock acts), SK killed it this year, in my opinion.

Shaky knees is good for a festival of its size. Really good. But if that were the Bonnaroo lineup people would be rioting. But it comes with the territory. When you're recognized as one of the premiere if not THE premiere festival in the U.S. expectations are higher.

Holy shit, I just realized Unlocking the Truth is that young metal band that had that awesome documentary-style video about them. That's awesome! They're like The McLovins but better.
I saw someone post regarding Byrne being on the lineup, I don't see him. Am I missing something? Also Sturgill Simpson should be a great tent show.
COS confirmed that he would be with Atomic Bomb! but who knows at this point. I'm not even sure i understand the definition of the word 'confirm' anymore.

Hasn't been announced but it is possible that he will be there. Everybody wants David Byrne on the lineup and instead we got Andrew Hozier-Byrne. Sums up Roo 2015 lineup pretty well.
I find it hard to believe Atomic Bomb! would be billed so high if David Byrne wasn't part of it

Totally agree. I think Shaky Knees is getting way too much love in this thread. If that's the kind of music that you like, then it is a good lineup. But if you want to camp for four days and get the variety of music that includes rap, EDM, old white dudes, older white dudes, etc...well, comparing it to Bonnaroo is really apples and oranges IMO.
On another note (and I posted this in Artist Additions thread), based on putting all of the announced artists into last year's schedule template, we're still in for 15-20 solid artist additions (at least Tents if not a Which and a What artist too)...
Disappointed that Weezer, Death Cab, St. Vincent, TV on the Radio and Tame Impala aren't there. But the surprise of SLAYER almost made up for all of it. Still a very strong undercard IMO even if it's an underwhelming year for headliners.
Speaking of that...So is deadmau5 going unopposed with third billing?
I'm guessing he starts off unopposed around 10:30 or 11 and he will play till 2. Other stuff will open at 12 like usual. I bet Kendrick will play right before him from 8:30-10:30.

I think people are excited about Shaky Knees because for their brand and budget, they killed it. Bonnaroo for their brand and budget did not. They aren't being compared purely to each other. The praise is due to how well Shaky Knees came to the best lineup they could put together vs. what Bonnaroo did.
Yea, it was the same thing last year when Governors Ball landed Outkast, Jack White, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, The Strokes and a bunch of other awesome acts.
It's great lineup + smaller/cheaper festival which makes it even more impressive.

The 2 main acts I wanted to see that aren't on the lineup are Lana Del Ray and Tame Impala. I did see Tame Impala in 2013 front and center, but I wanted a LN show so bad.

So I just read the Rolling Stone article about the lineup drop and saw something interesting:
The full list of performers that Bonnaroo has listed so far is available on the fest's website. Bonnaroo producers are promising more than 125 musical artists total and more than 20 comedians, so they will be announcing more in the coming months. The four-day extravaganza will play out on 12 stages.
So... We are currently at 98 artists. Expect at least another 27 artists to be announced.

Obviously Roo has figured their formula is to provide a smattering of performers in almost every Genre. The fans can then sample whatever they like.
They have been increasing EDM (used to basically just be the silent disco) year by year. I think it is daring to make the festival this heavy with EDM. There are so many EDM festivals and mini Fests already. Apparently, they think it will sell and fits the vibe for Roo. After this years fest, we will know one way or the other.
I am disappointed in the fact, that this is the weakest Indie Rock line up since 2005, without a doubt. Since 2006, the Indie Rock has been very solid at Roo. This year, it isn't the case.

Saw this on reddit... Hopefully this is a good sign for mid-tier acts

Yeah but like more then half of those 27 could be cafe acts
I have a bad feeling the artists I want to see most are going to conflict with each other late night too. Ugh.
MMJ Flylo Caribou Run the jewels Deadmau5 Flume SBTRKT Jamie XX
WAHHHHH
I could see Flume and Caribou getting the daytime treatment. Could RTJ potentially get Thursday?
Maaaaybe Caribou will get f-ed over with daytime, but I can't imagine that Flume would. And RTJ is definitely not Thursday - though if somehow, they did end up on Thursday night, I don't think I would hate it since there always tends to be worse conflict issues on Friday and Saturday.

There were 41 cafe acts last year. So expect a good portion of the remaining acts that will be be announced to be playing at the Miller Lite Lounge and Sonic Stage.
But 41 is more than that 27 Rolling Stones just cited - so even if ALL those adds were Cafe acts, that doesn't add up right?

edit: upon further inspection, it's not totally complete - for instance, tears for fears & EW&F appear to be missing. it's still a handy visual overall.

Yeah, it sure is daring for Bonnaroo to book EDM in 2015. It's not like it's arguably the most popular genre among the younger demographic right now. What tastemakers! What trendsetters!
Also, booking 9 electronic acts isn't exactly "[making] the festival . . . heavy with EDM."
