What was going on with the Jimmy Fallon confirmation? Was that from that fake mock that was getting passed around? I saw it on the confirmation page last night and thought there may have been something to it. Any chance he would be added with the comedy lineup?
I think landing Fallon would essentially be another headliner, like Conan. I mean he IS the host of the Tonight Show which is a pretty big deal.
I definitely think a few of the names announced are already cafe stage acts. For example, Unlocking the Truth, who probably aren't old enough to command a tent slot (unless they're the first act in a line of metal acts). I'm also not too familiar with a few names on the bottom of the lineup. That's not totally indicative that they're too small to play a tent but I've seen a decent amount of "too big for cafe" names who've actually played cafe slots.
As far as big names, I think we'll get at least 1 add who's in the second tier of artists and a good 15 names that could fill some gaps. That's more than fine with me, middle of the lineup names are just as likely to excite me as headliners.
I'm more bummed about Lorde than I first realized. There isn't a single song on her album I dislike, and her covers are fantastic. If we got one big name add, I would love love for it to be her.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

I was looking at Billy Joel's setlists and it looks like he ends every set with Piano Man. I haven't seen how he performs it live, but I think that song is a bit of a downer. And that will be the last song we hear at Roo this year. Not only that, but I am going to Wakarusa the weekend before and taking off the intervening week then going to Roo. So my 10 day joyful, hedonistic celebration is all going to come to a sudden melancholy end with fucking "Piano Man." I feel that is going to be a real buzz kill.
Who makes guacamole happen!?!? Does a tabloid like the University of Oklahoma student paper make guacamole happen or do ME AND YOU make it exist? Just cause they write about it doesn't make guacamole exist - ME AND YOU MAKE IT EXIST!

I'm sure you could do some things to ensure you pass our before the encore or possibly don't remember it. That way it's like it never happened, and you can retain your blissful memories.
I just counted 190 acts total on the 2014 lineup. That includes comedy and cafe. So even with 20 comedy and 40 cafe acts, we have a lineup that's still significantly smaller
It's entirely possible that they're booking fewer acts.
Fewer acts + higher ticket prices = Capp Dogg paying off those gambling debts.
Every time I strongly disagree with your assessment I turn out at least partially to mostly wrong. I really wish you hadn't just said that because I'm still trying to stave off my cynical initial response to the lineup.
I knew this year I'm going to Bonnaroo regardless of the lineup so I bought my pre-sale ticket the minute it became available. I was hoping when the lineup came out I could look at my hasty ticket purchase and think "Oh hellz yeah!" and do a little happy dance because I got an awesome deal on a gamble. The price hike of the tickets only made me that much more smug that I'd invested in what will be the most epic Bonnaroo since 2002. Instead I feel like I dropped my chip in the slot machine, pulled the handle and and and...and...Billy Joel.
The headliners this year suck. That is my opinion and it is based on my own musical preferences. But I've never gone to a Roo because of the headliners with the exception of 2012 (Radiohead & Phish were 2 bands I'd always wanted to see but hadn't) it was always the undercard that convinced me it was worth the hassle. The headliners (with the exception of 2012) were always the sprinkles on the frosting on the cake. This year I feel like I got no sprinkles and the frosting is a bit thin to. Is it worth the price I paid? Fuck yeah! But had I not bought pre-sale and waited for the drop to decide whether to pay the "market rate" for GA? Not very likely with the line up as it stands.
TL;DR = I was expecting better. The price increase may just be a money grab and not the heralding of a new platinum music fest experience. Silver Lining = There might be far fewer people this year which could make this one of the most awesome Bonnaroo's ever considering there are some really amazing acts that would be playing at less crowded tents and stages. I might even finally get to check out a comedy act or the silent disco this year for the first time.
Ben Folds is now listed as Ben Folds + yMusic, who are also teaming up on a new album. I had to look up yMusic and they're an ensemble of string instruments and horns. Should be an awesome set!

are you kidding me that song is probably the greatest end of a party song ever to exist if you have been hammered in a circle of your friends screaming out pianoman i feel bad for you. I cannot think of a better way to end bonnaroo than piano man.
Pretty solid undercard for me at first pass. Lots of stuff to explore, so so headliners for me, but over 30 bands already that I'm interested in seeing. Just a few worth noting from the undercard - gambino, sbtrkt, rtj, rudimental, jungle, glass animals

If we're talking Piano Man, it's much better without the tawdry fucking last verse in which Joel shifts from describing the sad old drunks to speaking for them. Specifically about himself. And how awesome he is.
I mean, I don't know if he's written a cheeseless song in his life. Without that verse, Piano Man would still be cheesy but not bad. That verse ruins it for me.

To each his own man. Though in all my days of partying I've never known of anyone to crank up "Piano Man." While I can see how the chorus without any context would seem like a great party song, it's about a bunch of people with broken unfilled dreams escaping their lives for a brief moment in a dive bar with no real way out. Perhaps it's my old age which makes me appreciate the downer aspects of the song more than someone who's younger.

I'm young and I may or may not have drunkenly shed a tear due to the despair in that little bar that Billy is singing about
so i started checking out bands i haven't heard yet and holy shit i just fell in love with the growlers. I've seen their name many times before and am pretty pissed i never checked em out till now. also, odesza is fucking awesome. at least i found 2 new bands thanks to this lineup.

I did my initial run through of the lineup today. Usually jus listen to 1-2 songs per artist I hadn't heard before to get an idea of what they are like then mark the ones I like for more extensive listening later.
So far I have really dug Priory, Bahamas, and Tycho. Also I hadn't listened to Guster since the early 2000s. I think I only knew them for that song "Amsterdam" but I am digging their new album a lot. Going to have to check out the rest of their catalogue.

Never listened to them before. Had my spotify playlist on shuffle and "Rocketship" popped on. Was such a good song been listening to Guster all day.
Guster is such a throwback for me (like Ben Folds) - listened to them a lot back in the early 2000s. I'm excited they're on the lineup.
Today I've discovered that I really really dig MO, Jungle, Shakey Graves, and Tyco.
Last year, when I first read through the lineup, sure, there were more bands that I already knew and liked. But what I'm quickly discovering about this year is that maybe the quality isn't down...there are just a lot of great bands booked that I haven't familiarized myself with before. Call me a nerd, but I find that discovery process more exciting than looking at a lineup and saying "oh yeah, I really like 25/30 of these," but then not finding much else once the digging-into-the-previously-unknown begins.

I'm young but one of my good friends is really into Guster and I got into them through him about 5 years ago. So they're actually pretty fresh in my mind, and their new album is great. A good change-up in sound while still keeping the same feeling as some of their other stuff. They'll put on a good little niche show and are definitely a good throwback to the 90's/early 2000's jam-pop scene that I was never a part of.
Also the mayor of Boston has declared January 15th (tomorrow) Guster Day

Yea, I think ultimately it was the mock that led to the rumor. I was refreshing twitter and checking for names that kept popping up, and Jimmy Fallon kept coming up from people that had other confirmed artists, so they seemed legitimate. I saw it enough times that I thought it was confirmed and jumped the gun. Damn you brghteys1216 with your convincing mock!
A little bland tbh. Some nice gets. Onyeabor, MSMW, MMJ alone have peeked my interest. Weakest headliners I have ever seen at Roo. It as if they missed on someone or someone dropped out.
Considerably disappointed they missed on some obvious choices who also have recent albums: TV On The Radio, Conor Oberst, Beck and Ryan Adams. The Adams miss is pretty glaring considering he is finally playing the festival circuit this year and has never played Bonnaroo.
I am Considering heading back for my 10th Roo, but I really need to see the late night lineup before full commitment. Unless I can get the guest passes. Then I am in.
I know COS says David Byrne is apart of this, but it says no where on the lineup biography for Atomic Bomb. Can someone help explain?
atomic bomb is a collective david byrne sings lead on a few of the songs. you can find a video of him performing with them on fallon. other singers include dev hynes, the guy from bloc party and dead prez. they have performed both with and without byrne.
