I feel like people outside of Ohio don't realize how dedicated of a fanbase twenty one pilots have. They sold out 2 nights at LC Pavilion in Columbus (12k tickets) in a few hours. If they don't get the Which Stage they will have the most packet tent all weekend.
I don't listen to 21 Pilots on a normal basis but their shows are super entertaining. Their Ohio fans alone would pack a tent for them. I can definitely understand the negative outlook on them though, they are so far outside the box that it is easy to hate.

We're not debating their popularity. Just their quality. I'm completely aware they'll get a Which set. And that fact makes them feel even worse.

Yeah I don't like their music either, but they put a lot of effort into their live shows and were really nice guys when I met them, so I can't really hate on them.
I swear to god if they schedule Jamie XX in the Four Tet slot in the afternoon I'm gonna flip my shit.
Late LN aka Darkside slot ftw.
you mean like this?
Quack It! Put him on Thursday Night. Latest spot possible. I will take that instead if they are even remotely considering putting him on some shitzy early afternoon set nonsense.

I watched one video from King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and are automatically really excited about their show. This deffinately fills in the spot of Ty Segall and Diarrhea Planet of last year.

Yeah, but Ohio is basically Florida North, so who really cares about Ohio?

So terrible taste in music / life choices is confined to Columbus and not the entire state? Got it.
I'm 100% guessing here but I have a feeling the explanation for the "Twenty One Pilots" band name is a fucking terrible story
From Wikipedia "Tyler came up with the band's name while studying All My Sons by Arthur Miller, a play about a man who must decide what is best for his family after causing the death of 'twenty one pilots' during World War II because he knowingly sent them faulty parts for the good of his business. Tyler explains that this story of moral dilemma was the inspiration for the name of the band.

Even worse than I originally thought
"This poignant story about a man grappling with issues of morality in the face of an ethical dilemma was our inspiration for the name of our living, breathing, cartoonish buffoonery of a band."
"We came up with the name AWOLnation following a heated debate over Wittgenstein and the practical applications of his work post-World War I, including how Tractatus bears a direct connection to the loss of connection humanity feels with nature in the face of the internet age."

To add to this, I (unfortunately) live in Florida, and Twenty One Pilots sold out a show at the Beacham, meanwhile Belle and Sebastian got moved to a smaller venue. Florida has terrible taste.

Gotta at least admire the bands out there that say "this is our band name, we just picked it out to advertise our first show and stuck with it. It doesn't mean shit"

Garbage, I live in Ohio and I don't know any 'dedicated' fans.. Throw 'em in the tent!

2/6: Cherub
4/22: The Mountain Goats

Twenty One Pilots killed it at Roo '13 with their energy and I had a blast. I saw them again this year and it was pretty meh. I am kinda over their music and I think a lot of it was just how pumped they got the crowd at Roo and is a perfect way to start my first weekend on the farm. Also, in the show I saw this year they kept talking to a disembodied voice throughout set and it was real cheesy and hurt the flow of the show. The crowd when I saw them the second time was a younger one and than at Roo in '13. I am going to pass on them this year unless there is literally nothing else that interests me that is going on.
