I'm glad Roo reached out to them, sad they won't be on the farm, The Dead and My Morning Jacket were my two most wanted acts this year. We got MMJ at least.
Now to start figuring out how to get to Chicago...

Not sure if this has been discussed elsewhere, but there's a theory going around on Reddit that Roo had so much of their budget tied up in their bid for the Dead, that when that fell through they had already missed the boat on other potential headliners and were forced to bump acts (Kendrick, Mau5) from subs into headliner slots. Might be totally wrong, but I think it makes sense.

Also very sad they won't be at roo. But very glad I live 3 miles away from soldier field ????

Can people hear the shows from grant park? I figure they can a little muffled anyways. I will be in Chicago that weekend and am attempting to get tickets to Sundays show. If not I will hit grand park for sure, if I can hear it.

I'm not exactly sure. I know you can hear the fans cheering. I wouldn't see why not. Like you said probably muffled and echoey.

You're not going to be able to hear a show at Soldier Field from Grant Park. You might be able to hear from the parking lot, but the sound won't be great.

Bonnaroo really, really nailed it with the hip hop this year. They get arguably the hottest rapper in the game(Kendrick Lamar) as his new album is dropping as well as Madlib & Freddie Gibbs and Run The Jewels who in my opinion had the two best rap albums of 2014.
You sprinkle in some Flying Lotus, Childish Gambino and Shabazz Palaces you've got a really eclectic list of hip hop acts.
"We came up with the name AWOLnation following a heated debate over Wittgenstein and the practical applications of his work post-World War I, including how Tractatus bears a direct connection to the loss of connection humanity feels with nature in the face of the internet age."
To nitpick that's not at all how the moniker came about, but the real story is kinda dumb. But damn if I don't love their tunes!

I keep thinking about Bonnaroo's lineup in comparison to Shaky Knees. A lot of people called the Shaky Knees lineup impressive when it came out and saying it beats Bonnaroo, but when you look at the number and popularity of the acts booked, that doesn't quite hold up. Bonnaroo's upper-midcard acts like Florence and the Machine, Alabama Shakes, Childish Gambino, Bassnectar Flume, and Hozier, all have massive and growing followings, but aren't particularly hip or musically interesting, and don't have stellar critical reputations. Compare that to Shaky Knees: Pixies, Noel Gallagher, Tame Impala, Mastodon, Neutral Milk, TVOTR, Interpol, James Blake, Panda Bear... I'd say these are more exciting, and most Pitchfork readers would agree, but I guess they're just not as bankable as other acts for the 2nd-5th lines of a festival the size of Bonnaroo.
I mean, what *if* after Kendrick the lineup read Robert Plant, MMJ, Pixies, D'Angelo, Modest Mouse, Bassnectar, Alabama Shakes, Tame Impala, Interpol, TVOTR, Panda Bear? I'd be dying to see that lineup, but it probably isn't as bankable to sell tickets as the one we got. But something Shaky Knees can book and do well for because it's a much smaller festival.
TLDR Bonnaroo's very size probably affects the quality of the acts booked, and makes popularity a bigger factor (compared to Shaky Knees or other, smaller fests such as Pitchfork) than critical reception or how crazy music nuts are about the acts.

Just somethin I've been thinkin about.
I wish that was what Bonnaroo's lineup was after Kendrick! I think that lineup would sale just as good as what we got, if not better. But that is biased because I personally think it's better.
Trying to think realistically, how big of an act (or two...or three?) do you think Roo could add? Something along the lines of Death Cab or Modest Mouse - or is that really too optimistic at this point? That's an interesting theory about how Roo might've screwed itself over w/ spending too much time trying to score the Dead, so that by the time it didn't come through, their other headliner choices had dwindled/disappeared. But if that is the case, wouldn't it mean that they really do have a large pocket of money chilling there, available for booking some more legit, fairly famous bands?
