Trying to think realistically, how big of an act (or two...or three?) do you think Roo could add? Something along the lines of Death Cab or Modest Mouse - or is that really too optimistic at this point? That's an interesting theory about how Roo might've screwed itself over w/ spending too much time trying to score the Dead, so that by the time it didn't come through, their other headliner choices had dwindled/disappeared. But if that is the case, wouldn't it mean that they really do have a large pocket of money chilling there, available for booking some more legit, fairly famous bands?
don't think its happening, additions will probably look like years past...
I'm also pretty surprised they went for the dead. pretty foolish considering the lack of jam on the lineup
"We came up with the name AWOLnation following a heated debate over Wittgenstein and the practical applications of his work post-World War I, including how Tractatus bears a direct connection to the loss of connection humanity feels with nature in the face of the internet age."
To nitpick that's not at all how the moniker came about, but the real story is kinda dumb. But damn if I don't love their tunes!
You don't say? You mean that completely farcical example I made up off the top of my head to poke fun at something else entirely ISN'T the actual fact? I was just doin' it fer' jokes.
I keep thinking about Bonnaroo's lineup in comparison to Shaky Knees. A lot of people called the Shaky Knees lineup impressive when it came out and saying it beats Bonnaroo, but when you look at the number and popularity of the acts booked, that doesn't quite hold up. Bonnaroo's upper-midcard acts like Florence and the Machine, Alabama Shakes, Childish Gambino, Bassnectar Flume, and Hozier, all have massive and growing followings, but aren't particularly hip or musically interesting, and don't have stellar critical reputations. Compare that to Shaky Knees: Pixies, Noel Gallagher, Tame Impala, Mastodon, Neutral Milk, TVOTR, Interpol, James Blake, Panda Bear... I'd say these are more exciting, and most Pitchfork readers would agree, but I guess they're just not as bankable as other acts for the 2nd-5th lines of a festival the size of Bonnaroo.
I mean, what *if* after Kendrick the lineup read Robert Plant, MMJ, Pixies, D'Angelo, Modest Mouse, Bassnectar, Alabama Shakes, Tame Impala, Interpol, TVOTR, Panda Bear? I'd be dying to see that lineup, but it probably isn't as bankable to sell tickets as the one we got. But something Shaky Knees can book and do well for because it's a much smaller festival.
TLDR Bonnaroo's very size probably affects the quality of the acts booked, and makes popularity a bigger factor (compared to Shaky Knees or other, smaller fests such as Pitchfork) than critical reception or how crazy music nuts are about the acts.
I don't get the weird hate for Ohio you all had there for a minute. Is it because we're the undisputed national champions
I'm not gonna take the time to go back and read it, but I'll let you know that it was most likely about an old user named Ohio, not the state... or you're a troll, whatever it is, there's your answer
every time i see hozier above literally every act they're above i want to puke into my blue recycling garbage bag.
I feel like Hozier 2015 is the same as Lumineers 2013 and they both got the same billing. Hozier would be fine with me in that spot if the rest of the lineup was solid.
The act that really throws me off is Flume. He's 10 spots higher than Disclosure was last year, and he's like a lesser version of Disclosure...

Welcome to Bonnaroo in the middle of this decade. A mid-tier quality $400 festival.

Actually not outrageous. From what I read it's $100 for open floor and $50-200 for reserved seating
Wow man, that's not bad at all. I wish I wasn't already doing so much this summer because my grandfather will probably go and I'd love to join him
I'm trying to convince my dad to make the journey, even if I can't accompany him. He's a pretty big deadhead although he's never been a big fan of the post-Jerry projects. I still think he should go see them one last time.
i'm not into rap at all anymore... but i just listened to the gibbs and madlib album for the first time and hooooly shit. best thing i've heard since guru and premier.

The song like this that gets me the worst was the video from 2013 about the road trip to Roo that played the Alabama Shakes song as the final song as it's showing the people in walmart's parking lot and then the people sitting in line to get in and all the crazy stuff going on and the final shot is from the view point of the artists if they're playing the What Stage, looking out over the crowd. I wasn't even an avid listener of the shakes, but since that video came out, I've had a craving to see them on the farm, I will almost undoubtedly tear up and give all my friends a huge hug on Friday when they play that song.

I just saw Spoon on ACL. I thought they might be a band I'd get into, but they didn't grab me. I'll reserve them for a schedule filler spot for now, but not sure about the hype. On a side note, I watched some old White Stripes and realized how much I miss Meg Whites jugs.

yeah, I've seen them 2 times and they are good live, but not mind melting. when I first saw them, it was at the peak of when I loved them, and it was amazing. then I saw them last summer and it was good, but not any better and maybe less exciting than the first time I saw them.
I love spoon, and if you haven't seen them before you should definitely go, they just aren't a band that you need to see over and over again, IMO.
How sure are we that MMJ will be getting a late night? Just looking at the schedule I'm trying to figure out who the pre headliners are. I assume Florence, and Robert plant but unsure about the last one maybe Alabama shakes? I could definitely see MMJ being the other name. I'm torn. On one hand if they're a pre headliner I expect them to have less conflicts with other acts I want to see, late night would be cooler and they could play a longer set but that's when I'm anticipating most of the acts I want to see to be playing.

I saw spoon in December. Their content of the setlist didnt change much from the previous few shows, so I knew what I was getting. It was still great, and id go see them again even with that same set. It will take a good conflict to get me to skip them at roo.

That show was the second time I've seen Spoon and was a weaker performance than the first time I saw them. i have them on my schedule for roo, but if there's a conflict Spoon won't win.
