I can't see 80,000 people at Roo or even 40,000 for that matter filling the field at the What Stage for DeadMau5. I really don't see 3 people on the bill that can entertain 70-80% of the people attending. Billy Joel, maybe. Not sure anyone under 40 will be that excited to see him though. He isn't as big of a deal as Elton John who is famous for huge shows. Mumford and Sons has a definite popularity, but haven't put out music in 3 years. I understand it is a make up for 2 years ago when Jack Johnson filled in. They definitely are a decent pick as a Roo headliner.
I already have my tickets, and I am sure I will be on the farm again this year. Though if EDM is going to headline, I will definitely wait for line-up announcements prior to buying tickets in the future.
Please don't think I am an EDM hater. I have had great times at Skrillex, Diplo, Girl Talk, or tons of other artists and DJs. EMD is not something I want to see as a headliner, It is something I want to do after seeing a headliner at the end of the night.
The last couple years announcements were far better than this, Roo really phoned it in this year. Also I'm hoping for Primus to be an addition.
I'm talking about the way 2013 and 2014 were announced. I loved the Weird Al/Portugal. The Man video and the Flaming Lips/Ben Folds video announcing the lineup, was way more entertaining and fun than the barely functional phone lines and repeats of footage we've seen time and time again.
I think this is the first lineup since I started going to Roo in 2007 that I havnt been in love with. There just isn't much on there that gets me excited besides MMJ. I do have alot of research to do as im not familiar with alot of bands on the lineup but the bands that I am familiar with dont do a whole lot for me. I will be there and will have a blast regardless but im hoping for some major additions.
Honestly I'm really happy with the lineup. Quite a few I've been wanting to see for a while (Pokey Lafarge, Run the Jewels, Trampled by Turtles), new bands to research, and Billy Joel is one of my favorite artists. I'm just as happy with this years as I was with last.
I'm honesty surprised about the hate the lineup is getting, maybe it's just my taste in music, but I think it holds up to last year. It's also obvious we'll be getting some significant additions based on the number of announced acts, people need to relax a bit.
1st lineup in 10 years where I am just blah. Handful of cool acts but not enough. Typically go vip but this lineup I can't even see $400 each. Might go if we can get comped or super cheap tickets the weekend before but this lineup sealed the deal on govs ball for us and will likely take the money saved and try out another fest like the new one in Canada if that lineup is decent. Sad panda right now. Maybe some additions and the late night announcements will sway us.

Several bands I'm excited to see. Over all a "eh" kind of feel for me. I really wanted to see much more out of Bonnaroo. I have friends who decided to do hang out this year because of their lineup over roo. Next year I'm going to try to go to both.
However, ita going to be hard to convince many I know that roo is the better festival this year, and by tickets for 2016
It's ok because Coachella got so many more great acts that Roo did not.
Shut yo mouth , this is maybe the best undercard bonnaroo has ever had.
Idk, I thought last year's undercard was really stacked, especially up top. This year's undercard is pretty strong in the middle, but that top 20 is very weak.

Absolutely. The byproduct of an early lineup is a small one.

There's more than enough good stuff to make me appreciate the undercard, but overall for my tastes hangout lineup wins this year. I'll be on the beach this summer.

If that was true (which its not) then it would be pathetic, because the undercard is not that great.
I'd probably care to see the following acts:
Kendrick Spoon Slayer FlyLo Caribou Run the Jewels Jamie xx Rudimental Tycho The Very Best MadGibbs Jungle Iceage Temples Pallbearer
...and that's it. The most exciting bookings on here are Jamie xx, The Very Best, MadGibbs, Iceage and Pallbearer. And half of these acts will conflict, either on Thursday or a late night.
The first 7-10 lines of this lineup are a nightmare. I had (apparently unrealistic) hopes that they'd pull Hot Chip, Refused, Noel Gallagher, TV on the Radio, Modest Mouse, etc. Oh well.

I'm glad I'm not the only one happy to see The Very Best on the lineup.
I find it hard to believe they booked literally zero bands out of:
Weezer Death Cab St. Vincent Modest Mouse TV on the Radio The Decemberists The Roots Tame Impala
Holding out hope that one or two of them make the additions, and/or there is a stronger-than-ever list of additions on the way since they released the lineup earlier than usual. Gambino, Flume and Hozier billed 10-12 seems incredibly high to me. There's got to be a Conan-esque comedy addition coming.
I think that it's a pretty solid line-up overall, but with so many great festivals so much closer it's just not worth the drive from Montreal anymore. After 3 trips to the farm 08,09 and 11 it will take an absolutely amazing lineup to get me to go now.

I want this to be the case sooo badly, but I really don't wanna get my hopes up for it.
2014:
April 05 - Twenty One Pilots
May 15 - Lana Del Rey
May 30 - Why?
June 12-15 - Roo '14
June 24 - Arctic Monkeys
September 05 - Twenty One Pilots
September 23 - Lorde
September 26 - Why?

And there in lies the problem.
Bonnaroo is the granddaddy of festivals. Easily one of the two best in the country, probably top 10 in the world.
The lineup should be awe inspiring. The envy of all other festivals. Its not this year. Now, I'll still have a blast, several bands I really want to see, but I can't brag among my other festival friends, as there are better options as in lineups this year

I love how a bunch a people are acting like Billy Joel isn't a total score. That set is going to be amazingly fun. Yeah, the headliners are weak, and it's not their best lineup, but this lineup had plenty to make for a great weekend. Everyone is talking about acts they missed out on, but they are all acts that you will have plenty of opportunity to see this year. Slayer, Atomic Bomb, Billy Joel, TFF make this the most unique experience I've seen released so far this year.
Also, to anyone complaining about hip hop, you have RTJ and Gibbs and Madlib (the two best hip hop albums of 2014) and Kendrick Lamar, who's new album will be out by Roo. You're nuts.

modest mouse sure was good on the beach last year...
this lineup is nice but i think you're right about too much late night conflicts.
Honestly there are def some acts I'm looking forward to but there were some heavy omissions. It made me almond at regret getting Presale tickets. Especially when Boston Calling has such a strong lineup for a small fest.
