I'm going to make the prediction that Mumford and Sons will be announcing their third GOTR tour tomorrow. They've said that they have a big anouncement for North America tomorrow so I'm going to assume this is it.
I went in 2012 and 2013, both were amazing experiences. Of course besides M&S, they'll have some heavy hitters touring with them. One of the cool things is that the artists very at each stop. So if you want to go to several stops it's going to be a somewhat different lineup. Whatever towns get chosen will be refurbished for the thousands who will be there for the event. I went to Dixon IL in 2012 and Troy OH in 2013. It was a lot of fun hanging out in these small towns with a bunch of music loving weirdos like all of us.
I could be wrong but this just seems like it's happening. So if anybody is interested this is where info for the tour can be discussed.
Really hoping they come somewhere near Chicago. Will def be checking them out if they do.
2012 they played Dixon IL, about a 2 hour drive. 2013 they played Troy OH, 5 hours away. Hopefully they won't be further than 5 hours. Either way I think it's likely that there will be a stop within 8 hours from Chicago.
Fingers crossed for a GOTR show in Alabama! There is ready made settings in Enterprise, AL and Dothan, AL (site of Toadlick Festival) that could fit the small town vibe of these and accommodate a large crowd, or they could come back to Pelham, AL (outside of Birmingham) to Oak Mountain. I caught them there in 2013 and you could really tell how impressed Marcus was with the crowd. So much to start to speak, get caught up laughing and then saying, "I'm sorry....it's just...we've never even been to your state before, and you all showed up!". Here's to hoping!
That being said, Seaside Heights is undoubtedly one of the trashier, bro-ier beaches in NJ, and probably the last thing NJ needs if it wants to shed the reputation given by Snooki and her orange friends.
So they've announced their album and I realized that the biggest problem with a GOTR tour this summer is that their festival dates are all over the map and wouldn't leave time for an extensive summer tour in any one area. Still holding out hope though
EDIT: I was completely wrong and they did just announce stopovers.

Yup. Knew this was gonna f*ckin happen. Girlfriend's friend from college has a wedding the 20th. Gut wrenching. MMJ is playing with them too. I hate life sometimes.
Wow Washington lucked out with Foo Fighters on the bill in addition to Mumford. Seaside has beach camping too for $20/per person. Definitely pretty interesting and I'm surprised they went directly against Governors Ball given the proximity.
No. They typically have closed out the festival. They've also been known to go jam at little venues afterwards or DJ or just do fun things in the towns. I went two summers ago and it was an awesome experience that really immerses the whole town into the festival. If you get the chance to go, I'd highly recommend it, especially with the great support bands they have.
2017 Shows Sam Roberts Band, Wilco, Local Natives, Ryan Adams(!), Chance the Rapper, Future Islands, Frightened Rabbit, TOOL, Field Trip Music Festival, Gary Clark Jr., Arkells w/July Talk, Gorillaz, Tom Petty, Metallica, Muse, Incubus, Lollapalooza (!!!),Kings of Leon, Deep Purple & Alice Cooper, Father John Misty, War on Drugs

Yeah I went in 2012 in Maine and it was awesome. But that was when they were just one day so I wasn't sure how the two days work. I'm definitely interested in going. Trying to work out logistics.

the iowa date is over my birthday! .... but also right after roo. sigh...
Does anyone know anything on ticket prices? What were they for the last GOTR shows?
there's a ticket giveaway sweeps from the current - it says retail value for the prize of 2 passes is $398. so it looks like tickets wil be roughly $200 each.
Say what you will about Mumford and Sons, but these stopovers are great for many reasons. I'm originally from Dixon, Illinois and it was surreal seeing stages and hundreds of people in a park I go to frequently. I had not heard of Mumford before, but I knew I had to go once I found out about Gogol Bordello being there. I'm pretty sure the entire town was there too cuz I saw people I hadn't seen since middle school, and the downtown was amped up for the after parties and looking the best I've ever seen it. Needless to say it was a blast and the posters can still be seen scattered throughout downtown. Because of it, Dixon is now getting some recognizable bands every once in a while like Lyle Lovett, The Wood Brothers, and MOTHER QUACKIN SPIN DOCTORS!!!!! Ha anyways I'll most likely be at the Waverly stopover and if any of you are on the fence, I urge you to go and support small towns!!!!
