I said I don't get the hype. And instead of explanation of said hype....I just got more.
So....I remain unconvinced.
If you arent already convinced that both Coachella and RTJ are amazing, an explanation probably wouldn't change things for you. The proof is in the pudding and shit.
Nope….no desire to ever travel to Coachella. There's so much a dislike about the way it's run.
And about the music comment? That's just lazy.
Once I mentioned that I didn't know a lot about a certain artist. And a very nice Monie took the time to formulate a wonderful and informative post that did in fact change my view a bit.

I'm sorry but I'm currently entering the cultural hub of America and can't really formulate said thesis atm.

Awwww. I did all that?! You're too sweet <3
Really though, RTJ are great. They are definitely an aggressive form of hip hop but their lyrics (for the most part) are entertaining and even though they're talking about serious stuff sometimes (political, mostly) there are some that are just silly. I like them a lot. They're talented, entertaining and have great beats. Their live show was way more exciting than I had expected. I'm sooooo pumped to see them at Roo. They were already up there on my list but they may have crossed into must- see- fuck- conflicts territory.
Worst case scenario will be RTJ vs EWF, which are both on my can't miss list and as such will conflict and have nearly the exact set times.

Hip hop these days is a shell of itself. RTJ are ok. Nothing special but better than most of the garbage out there now.
I feel like the people that jizz in their pants over artists like RTJ never listened to KRS-ONE, Eric B and Rakim, a Tribe Called Quest, Biggie, etc. I could keep going on but i think you get the point.
I mean they could never be as good as Twista right??? Right?....
Twista was good at one specific thing. I never said he was great, but he gets a lot of respect from his hometown of Chicago. So for me to get bashed for attending his show was pretty ignorant. Especially since i got in for free and the venue is literally around the corner from my house.
As far as my previous point, hip hop hasn't been the same in a while. The substance is lacking. I have listened to both RTJ albums and they're decent. A few solid tracks, nothing that i could just turn on without skipping a song here and there unlike the artists I mentioned. Is there even a song ln either album where they don't say "run the jewels" several times? I'd like to know the count on saying their name on each album.
I'm still planning on checking out their set depending on a major conflict. I just agree with Karen that I don't get all the hype. Maybe seeing them live will change that. I've changed my opinion on several artists after seeimg them live so who knows.

I don't understand the disconnect. You like hip hop. RTJ is good hip hop. You confuse me when you say things like they say their names a lot. You listen to hip hop right? This is normal. They also have some great lyrics and great beats. It's hip hop. The only thing you said that makes sense is that hip hop hasn't been as good lately. This is true. But this is more reason to like RTJ, because there aren't many doing it this well anymore.

I don't get why Travis Barker guesting is such a big deal. I'm not in touch with how big Blink 182 was I guess.
It's funny viewing the snapchat feed with highlights from Sahara and then seeing fan snaps of Yuma, calling it the chill down tent where everyone is falling asleep.

Last year they didn't do a webcast, but they aired it live on the AXS channel. I haven't heard anything about doing that this year through.
It will be on AXS.
sweet. I'll have to set my DVR while I'm thinking about it!!
And FuzzyWarbles, Blink has a HUGE following. Travis Barker is also an amazing drummer. Blink gets shit on a lot as being very cheesy pop-punk, but they have a lot of great songs and are still fairly relevant among my age group specifically. Those of us who loved Blink as teens have kinda stuck with them into adulthood and as such Travis is a big deal.

I never liked his band but he's a good drummer.
I guess it's more of the celebrity status associated with him. Coachella has lots of drummers just as good.

I'm definitely gonna have to agree with sang on this. Sure, a lot of the hip-hop that's coming out isn't that awesome or as great as it used to be, but it's reflecting the times, the mood and the affect of people alive in this day and age...which, may I remind you, is exactly what hip-hop was originally intended to do, always has done, and always will do. El-P's production tends towards the seriously heavy-hitting, their rhymes can be a bit abrasive at times, but the overarching message pretty impressively parallels those two things. They say some silly shit sometimes (see, "Get a life, get a grip, get ahold of my dick, bitch, make a wish"), but that's just the tip of the damn iceberg. If you think Killer Mike and El-P's writing is lacking in substance, then you simply aren't listening. Their duo is called Run The Jewels for fucks sake. The implications of that name couldn't be anymore substantial without being called Killer Mike and El-P Present: The United States Is Corrupt And Everyone Is Needlessly Killing Each Other For Money Drugs And Power (The "Let's talk about this edition"). And that's just their name!

When Sang logic gets you, you know you're on the wrong side of the argument!

Amen.
That actually supports my argument more. Just because something's better that a bunch of crap doesn't make it the best thing ever.

No, what makes it the "best thing ever" is how an Atl rapper like Killer Mike and NYC rapper like El P come together and somehow mesh perfectly. They have incredible chemistry for people from 2 totally different scenes. They're making great music, regardless of what other people doing. Trust me, I go against me hype most of the time. But these guys are doing it right. Sorry you don't get it.
