I'm gonna dip into this video and watch a little bit, just because I don't like being that person hating on something that they refuse to even check out. But tbd on how much of it I will make it through... I'm not a Drake fan to begin with
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Didn't watch any of his set (never planned to - but god it sounds like it was reallllly rough), but what the fuqq is even happening here? Did she knock his tooth? Is he about to vom? All of the above?
My personal, completely unsubstantiated theory is that the grill she was wearing caught some part of his inner mouth or lip as she pulled away. Still, his reaction is priceless. In the video you can hear him say "Oh shit? What the fuck just happened!??!"
"I'm not gonna watch his set, I'm just going to assume it was bad because that matches my preconceived opinion on this artist" cool
Who are you fake quoting here...? I just said I'm gonna check it out so that I WON'T be making assumptions. About ten minutes in currently - it isn't terrible, but I just don't really get into his music or vibes personally.

I'll cop to it. I did not watch it, I thought it was most likely going to suck. Many whose opinion I value that have seen it, said it was terrible. So I don't really feel like I need to go out of my way to see it for myself.

In here it's mostly "I haven't watched the set but others who have watched the set (specifically some music news sites) are saying this so I want to see what others thought about it".
I've made it through a good portion, but this Madonna part is PAINFUL to watch. Why is she going all Coyote Ugly on the stage right now? Don't know if I can continue...
But yeah, I've seen enough to say I didn't dig it.

And just for the record, I just finished watching and that was pretty underwhelming. I just think it's funny that people that didn't like Drake in the first place are coming on here like it's a big surprise they didn't like his set. He played the hits, the crowd was really into it, the Madonna thing was interesting, that's about it. I'm sure I would have had a blast if I was there.
Right on.. I think if he was talented enough he could have overcame people's preconceived notions though... Last year I thought Pharrell was probably going to suck, and he wound up being pretty awesome and changing my opinion.
It wasn't bad, I was pretty entertained at a few parts. I was expecting some more guests, especially considering how many collaborations Drake has. It definitely wasn't as big as Snoop/Dr Dre, or Kanye's set.

Except Pharrell did like 3 original solo songs that set....

I'm as big a Drake hater as there is, and I tuned in last night out of morbid curiosity than anything. "HOW BAD IS THIS GONNA SUCK?!?"
But man, the dude puts on a solid show. Outside of the Madonna appearance (who has now gone full drunk mom in embarrassment levels) it was ONE DUDE on stage, dancin' and runnin' and singin' and rappin' for the whole show. That's fucking impressive.
I live in Toronto and somehow have avoided Drake music most of my life, and watching this webcast likely won't change that, but it definitely changed my opinion about him as an entertainer. I can see why he is as big as he is.
So people dont like Drake before Coachella performance, watch the performance and still dont like Drake and this is surprising? Ive never been converted to a band/artist when I had preconceived notions by watching a video. Indifference maybe swayed, but not down right dislike
Wouldve loved to have been present for this set lookin at the setlist. Ive seen him 3 times and I always thought it was one hell of a show with no filler
I mildly enjoyed his set. I'm not a huge fan of his, but I like some songs. The songs I knew and liked I enjoyed well enough, but sometimes he was fucking laughable. Like that campfire thing. And Madonna. No. No no no.
I wouldn't buy a ticket to his show or miss something else I wanted to see because of it, but if I had nothing else to do I don't think I'd mind it. That being said, I hope he never comes to Roo because that would be a waste of a headliner spot.
I am truly interested in seeing how the kiss plays out for weekend 2. But enough about Drake. I only caught a full performance during the stream from Father John Misty and loved it. The Honeybear material sounds great live. I also caught parts of Jack White and Jungle and enjoyed them both. Gonna need plenty of dancing room for Jungle's set at Roo.

You know Pharrel wrote/ produced those songs right?
Yes. The point is that Pharrell didn't change people's mind about his music with an amazing performance, he played other artists' songs and brought out amazing guests to perform them. If what Drake had to do to "change people's minds" is not play his own songs, then he didn't have a chance with y'all in the first place.

I don't agree with that. I used Pharrell as an example; but their have been many times I have seen acts at festivals that I thought were going to suck and wound up being pretty awesome or vice versa. I had high hopes for Eminem at Roo '11 and it wound up bombing for me. I got dragged to Beyonce at Made In America a few years ago and she completely blew my mind and changed my opinion of her entirely.

Fair enough. I don't think that performance changed anyone's mind about Drake, I just thought Pharrell was a bad example. I don't even like the dude that much, he just gets an unwarranted amount of hate on here. Remember when the general opinion was that Drake wasn't big enough to headline Roo? Lol.

It's a weird situation with him. Two years back he wasn't "big enough" to headline Made In America (but he did have one of the biggest crowds of the weekend). Suddenly this year, I don't think he has really grown in popularity, but festivals like Coachella and Gov Ball are billing him on top. Some might say it's due to a lack of headliners touring this year; but I am sure Coachella had other options and chose to go with him. Just weird.
