So I think I know the answer to this but to avoid paying for parking I was thinking about parking at the Wal-Mart about a mile west of the park. Would I be safe to park there (and walk to the park) or are the chances of something bad happening not worth the $20 or whatever parking will cost?
Can't speak for the Walmart situation but I just paid $20 and left my car in a lot on Georgia Tech's campus last year. Plus, it was close enough that I just walked to the park where the fest is (because I was staying next to it.)

I'm flying in from Connecticut, but will probably hold off on renting a car, since the Airbnb I went with is within walking distance to the festival. Is Uber going to be the best bet for most of the late night shows or does any public transportation happen to be around?

I know several people (including myself) have used Uber before for transportation around the festival after hours. The MARTA is around but the issues that have been brought up by others is a) there might not be a stop near your venue and b) the late night shows might run past when the trains stop running for the night.
Speaking of which, I figured out that there is a MARTA station right by my hotel and runs late enough to at least cover Youth Code's set on Saturday night, so I might give it a go if I go to that show.

Uber is your best friend for after shows. My friends and I used it many times last year and it worked perfectly

Getting more and more excited about the run of: Orwells, Parquet, EODM on Sunday.. Not sure what to do afterwards but leaning towards hanging around for Black Angels and Deftones before Florence

If you have not seen them, I would highly recommend The Black Angels.

As a qualifier, there was plenty of inforoo meeting up going on during the course of the day. We've just never pulled together a proper brunch outside the festival.
This sounds plenty suitable for me. I CAN CONSUME MY BRUNCH W/O YOU. And then will be on lookout throughout the day for any and all infoorosters that aren't you.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Definitely use both Uber and Lyft during the fest. One might have more cars available or a cheaper rate. It's usually worth it to check price estimates in both apps during busy times.
Also those who have not signed up for one or both of those apps, ask your friends or people in this thread for their referral code. It'll net you a discount and will get a free ride for your friend. I'd be happy to offer my code to anyone who needs it

Here is the main stage setup for 420 Fest this weekend. Good fuckin' luck seeing the main stage if you aren't VIP. Really hope it isn't the same for Shaky Knees in a few weeks.
Just giving y'all a heads up. And maybe nudge you towards VIP if you're on the fence about which tickets to get.

We went to Sweetwater last year and there were so many people it was hard to see. We got a better spot for Foo Fighters there. But yea, it's not easy. Also in the past we've had a good meetup spot where all of us stayed/went back to all weekend. I'm not sure where that would be this time? Even more confusing to me is where Ponce is going to be. Doesn't seem like there's space for a stage there.

So there are some actual spots in front of the main stage for VIP? I had emailed Shaky Knees around when tickets were on sale and they had said the viewing area was going to be to the side and that if you were looking to be close to the main stage GA was the way to go.
If you have not seen them, I would highly recommend The Black Angels.

I'll post a more representative live video later, but I had the urge to listen to this today. It's awesome to see a band that can redo their songs for a different medium and be successful.

Also, I can't remember if this has been posted previously, but the reason for the venue change this year was half of the property they used last year has been sold off and is no longer available for use.

Every major show i have been to in this venue (Outkast, Final Four Concerts, Sweetwater two years ago, a few of the Party in the Parks) the main stage has pretty decent viewing from GA. The VIP as some viewing in front of the stage but mostly puts you off to the side, stage left, where bathrooms and concessions are. It's closer but not necessarily a better view unless you fight with rest of VIP to get into the small area they have open in front of the stage.
This could be completely different but from the map i feel confident this is the setup.
Also, the main stage is pretty flat in front for about 30-50 yards maybe then starts a decent incline so sometimes you can see better from being a little further back.

Ok so in my haste to voice my proletariat outrage I jumped to a tiny little conclusion. That thing in front of the stage is definitely the sound board, not a VIP viewing area.
It's still shitty because the majority of the viewing area is directly behind the booth. I don't remember other concerts in Centennial having that setup but, obviously, I've been wrong before.
Hopefully VIP is off to the side as per usual.
And Sang, here's the second stage in Centennial. It's in the part of the filed directly across the street from the College Football Hall of Fame.
I've been to 420 Fest and other concerts in this venue before and it's been fine. Viewing on the main stage is an issue so definitely try to get to either side of the sound booth if it is indeed there for Shaky Knees. And overall it feels smaller than Central Park last year which is unfortunate. I have no idea what they'll do with the other stages by the Dome though so who knows.
Thats pretty much the same setup as 420 fest last year. The problem last year was it was a mud pit so the majority of people wouldnt/couldnt get as close to the stage as they wanted to. We actually stood about where youre taking that picture under a tree to watch Mule while it was pouring buckets. The tree didnt help any but there was at least mulch around the bushes to give some sort of resemblance to solid ground to stand on. I never once walked any closer than the concrete strip behind the soundboard because this was ankle deep mud and I didnt want to deal with the rest of the day

Yea mud is a real issue in Centennial. Fortunately they were rolling tarps over the grass when I walked past. And it looked like they had some hard plastic surfacing right down by the main stage which they hopefully keep through the fest. Holding out hope it won't rain too hard this week/weekend. Any damage done by 420 Fest will exacerbate any and all rain issues at Shaky Knees.
Can y'all tell I'm ready for it to be Shaky Knees already?

I emailed Shaky Knees and they confirmed there is definitely going to be a VIP area in front of a number of the stages. Hopefully, not anything excessively large:
"We are finalizing our patron map now and it will be available via our website and social media channels at the beginning of May. At the Peachtree Stage (our Main Stage), there will be an elevated viewing platform for VIP patrons to use very close to the stage. In addition, there will be an area at the front of the stage for viewing from the ground as well. We will have these VIP viewing areas in front of the Peachtree, Piedmont, Ponce de Leon, and Boulevard stages."

This link shows the map from last year, with the VIP areas. Watching the VIPs stroll up just before the set and get right up in the front in their area is what made me decide to do VIP this year. That, and I met a VIP who gave me free beers.
I have a VIP ticket and I've been following the issue of how the stage layout will be for some time. I've had great luck strolling up in the past (see: the national) but recognize with each new year and a new layout, things change. I emailed the organizers earlier this year and they weren't sure there was gonna be a VIP area up front, just the raised platforms. That really bummed me out as that's the main reason for me splurging. No way I can drink $250 of beer. So that's good news about the area if true. My hopes are raised!

Edit: here we go.
i'm choosing this show over Houndmouth and Nothing... That is a hard choice, but I've never seen them and love their music

You can drink $250 over three days? I think someone needs to believe in themselves a little more.

I will do my best! But, my wingman bailed on me for this trip, which is definitely a hit to the enthusiasm. And, I have a 5:30 am flight on Friday, meaning 3 am wake up, and I hope to make it through to the aftershows, so I need to pace myself.
