Probably because nobody really cared when they played Coachella. I feel like I remember reading that the crowds for them and The Stone Roses were smaller than Tegan and Sara who were playing at the same time. Don't quote me on that.
To be fair though the Coachella crowd for Outkast looked dead on everything that wasn't Hey Ya
I guess my main question is if he was saying blur won't headline a U.S. Fest again or blur won't play a U.S. fest again at all.
Both. Blur is likely too expensive for any festival to book in a slot other than a headliner, but they won't draw a big enough crowd to justify a headlining spot. Hell, their only two U.S. shows for the Magic Whip were severely undersold. Coachella got away with it because they were going to sell out anyway, so they didn't really care about how much Blur would draw (plus sometimes Tollett just does what he wants). But any other festival, particularly a small one like Shaky Knees, would probably be hard-pressed to justify spending quite a bit of money to book them. Also, from the band's perspective, they can play to genuinely massive crowds all around the world, so what's the incentive in playing to a few thousand people in the states? This isn't even getting to the fact that they finished the Magic Whip tour, and don't seem to have plans to tour in the near future.
MSG was not severely undersold, though it was't sold out like the Rolling Stone reported. Looked like the floor, 100s, and 200s.
Beck - My Morning Jacket - Blur Bjork - Of Monsters and Men - Death Cab for Cutie - The Libertines Weezer - Bloc Party - Ween - The 1975 - Belle & Sebastian Flaming Lips - Two Door Cinema Club - Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Matt & Kim
St Paul & The Broken Bones- The Decemberists - Royal Blood - FFS - Silversun Pickups Sufjan Stevens - The Vaccines - Father John Misty - Grouplove - The Antlers - Portugal the Man The Fratellis - Sturgill Simpson - Yo La Tengo - Of Montreal - Dinosaur Jr. Japandroids - Sleater-Kinney - The Front Bottoms - Deerhunter - Future Islands - The Orwells Yeasayer - We Were Promised Jetpacks - Reignwolf - The Maccabees - The Drums

Maybe I sank into a bit of hyperbole with "severely," but the bottom line is that people were giving away extra tickets in front of the venue. That's no joke. Looking around the arena at any point during the show it was easy to see that the place wasn't full. The floor had plenty of space, and you could find empty seats everywhere you looked. Blur is one of my five favorite bands of all time, but I have zero problem admitting that they just don't draw a crowd in any capacity here in the U.S.
That MSG show was one of the best concerts I've ever seen, for what it's worth. But I digress.
I was under the impression that the floor was undersold because they undersell the floor for safety reasons. I've been to sold out shows at MSG and the floor has always looked like that because people pack the front.
But yeah, I agree. Just wanted to say that severely was kind of hyperbolic. Two Radio City shows like Pulp would have been much better (but perhaps too small), but it was a fucking awesome show!

Blur is a dream headliner and I don't really expect them, I was throwing names out more than anything. Alt J would probably take that third spot.

Agreed on the point about the MSG show being one of the best concerts you've ever seen - I still consider the very best show I've ever seen, hands down. And that's not an easy thing for me to proclaim. Courtney was fucking incredible too
But yeah, I highly doubt Blur will ever headline another US festival again. Honestly, being at the MSG show gave me a feeling that that show could very well be their final US show ever, period.
The Hangout and Firefly lineup announces are making me appreciate last year's SK lineup even more now. What Sweetwood put together last year was something truly incredible.
Really hope this festival continues to grow and thrive. Looking forward to seeing what Sweetwood has up his sleeve for 2016.

I don't think we'll get a SK line up any earlier honestly but it doesn't give us a rough idea of who's on tour next summer. The 1975 would be a good grab but they seem to be in an early Cure phase right now.

yeah, lineup isn't coming out til January. BUT, hold on, did you just compare 1975 to The Cure?

Their newer stuff seems influenced by the earlier stuff of the Cure

I was looking at Hangout lineup thinking"where is the rock?". Then I thought, it's going to be at Shaky Knees. I can't wait.

I really really hope you're joking.
I said "seems", not looks. was urged by some of my friends not to listen to it, so I'm just keeping my idea of The 1975 stuck to their first album. but I'm going based on all their Facebook pictures and stuff. Matt just dresses like Robert now.

Not only that, but he apparently thinks that sounding like early Cure is a bad thing. Also, he thinks the 1975 would be a "good grab."
Worth mentioning that Tranter is like 14, though.
It's not, I like the Cure. I just don't like how they changed their sound so quickly because they really had something with their first album. I'm not really sure anyone can do early Cure like the Cure so that's why I haven't listened to it yet.

Have you seen them live? They are absolutely horrible. Nothing like the studio work.

I have not but that's disappointing. The booking still makes sense though.
I think they'll play Shaky Knees. However, I think Flying Lotus will be at Beats
FlyLo just did Afropunk here so I would doubt it. I really have no idea what to expect from Shaky Beats. I want to expect Kanye but we might end up with something completely different.
