I think they'll play Shaky Knees. However, I think Flying Lotus will be at Beats
FlyLo just did Afropunk here so I would doubt it. I really have no idea what to expect from Shaky Beats. I want to expect Kanye but we might end up with something completely different.

It's not something you should be hoping for. They were the worst act I saw at Boston Calling a year or so ago.
Looking on the brightside, if they are there, they'll draw a big crowd from whatever band is on at the same time. Those conflicts this year killed me.
Wouldn't you rather pick from two bowls of ice cream instead of one bowl of ice cream and one bowl of shit? That's what made Lolla 2012 and Roo 2013 so great for me. So many great conflicts all day.

Sure, but I like having a popular artist to draw a crowd that I won't see every now and again. It really clears up whatever crowd I'm at nicely
Last year's lineup was a thing of beauty... truly remarkable. Best festival I've been to in years. I have high expectations for this year's lineup. Personally, would really like MMJ getting an extended set, or maybe 2 sets. Hell, the festival is named after one of their lyrics, let's do something special...
Not happy about the announcement that they are moving the festival to Centennial Park though. Last year's venue was superb. Centennial is higher profile but will attract a bunch of posers. Don't try to make SK into Music Midtown. Just don't do it...

420 Fest was in Centennial and it's very different from Music Midtown.

Atlanta locals! What cool things should be done during the day before heading into the fest? I'm only there Friday-Monday. My flight isn't until Monday evening though. Suggestions?

Walk/bike the Beltline is kind of my go-to suggestion for people visiting. Get coffee at Octane, walk through Oakland Cemetery, walk through Cabbagetown and see the artwork. Go through the Krog Tunnel and pop out at Krog Street Market for lunch. Stroll down the Beltline and stop in at Paris on Ponce for a refresher coffee and to see the fun gallery stuff in there.
There's tons of new galleries in south Downtown that are cool too. If you're dying to see some fish you can go to the aquarium. Both of those are super near the venue.
There's a ton of fun things to do around here. It's just not always super easy for out-of-towners to find them. I'd be happy to suggest lots more things for everyone who will be visiting.

Good Lord, a regular VIP is $700??? Isn't that almost how much a Roo VIP costs? Yikes.
Didn't the Shaky Knees VIP offer free booze last year? If you're an alky, you could totally recoup half the cost in festival priced drinks.
last year it was free beer, water and snacks and it will be the same this year. I kinda want to do it this year to get a good spot at the stage in Centennial Olympic Park. If you are on the second grassy plane in the park it can be hard to see the stage. Plus I'm assuming that place will be a mud pit.

$400 is a big commitment for me though. Hmmm.
I feel ya. I've never done VIP for a fest before, but Centennial can be such a crap hole (plus there's that whole new unknown venue), that I'm actually contemplating VIP. There's no way I'd drink the $250+ price difference in beer, but I could drink $100, and if the viewing platforms are good, the remainder of the price difference could be worth it.
On the other hand, if the view and sound from the VIP section isn't any better that what I could do in GA, I'll be kicking myself for spending all that extra money for some "free" beer.
I emailed Shaky Knees to ask if a map of the VIP sections would be available for view during the Early Bird pricing, and they told me not to count on it.

Little Five Points is a great place. Weird people, good restaurant, a couple of good record stores, second hand stuff, etc.

You got to set your sights high. A group of us ended up getting access to a VIP wristband on Sunday night last year. We put a good dent in making up that much in one evening.

I wasn't there when this happened, I showed up and suddenly we're getting free beers and I was playing catch up. So I don't remember how we got it? Whatever the case, we need to do this again.

Do you recall what beers were included for VIP?
I'm really leaning towards pulling the trigger on the VIP presale.
I figure a conservative estimate of 7 beers a day at $10/ea is saving ~$210. Could probably eat ~$25 in the free snacks saving $75, so that's close to $300 on beer and food alone. Throw in the bathroom and viewing areas and it seems like a great deal.
Worst case, if I can't end up making the fest it should be super easy to sell the pass to someone considering it jumps about $250 in price

I never was the one with the actual wristband, so I never saw the bar. Monie might recall.

...And your refined palate was unable to identify the beer upon drinking? For shame.
