Safe to say this is nothing new?
I seem to remember they had a bag lane last year, but I could be confusing it with another festival.
Edit: If not an official bag lane, they at least directed people with bags to one end.

They've "increased security" before. I've never really noticed any real change overall. Like Kev said, they will relax once they get into a grove. You still might run into a random hardass, or get there when a supervisor is cracking down. Most of the time it won't be an issue.
Just hang back and observe the lines. You can usually tell which security people will be the easiest to deal with by their body language and interaction with the crowd.
My backpack has a small pocket in the front, and a medium one just behind it. I usually put any undesirable items in the medium one and walk up with the main zipper and small pouch already open so they think I'm being cooperative. They never look to see if I'm not opening something else.
The first Google image result for this phrase: "...Woman, 20, who suffered heart attack during breast implant surgery says she's grateful to be alive... and she 'loves' her new chest."

There was a bag line last year. They've searched bags since I started attending in 2011 but I think last year was the first year they implemented a separate bag line "to speed things up". But I always go in with guy friends without bags, so really they just end up waiting for me right inside. It doesn't do much speeding up for them.

CBS cares
Precisely this. I did the same thing; if you have it open so that you look nice and cooperative, they're much less likely to start rummaging through side pockets and shit. Also, you can definitely tell from watching in line which bag-checkers look least intense. Go with them.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Last year we walked in slow from the arch and watched for people really digging into bags or hassling people. My rule of "look for someone cool" didn't let me down last year.

As long as the pocket between my nuts and my leg are not included in this "new policy", search on. They just change the wording each year to keep the wooks on their toes.

I remember seeing something like this before in years past. One year I accidentally dropped something in my sneaker and got all the way into the Which field before I realized what happened. I was gonna go back and tell the security guys about it but they looked kinda busy so I just set it on fire and continued about my day.

truth. this is how I brought in not only a bag of wine in my backpack, but an entire box of wine literally strapped to my back. the dude didn't give a fuqqq.
as long as security doesn't turn into the fucking po-po harassment level it was at hangout this year, it should be just fine.
BUKU has SERIOUS searches. They search bags completely sometimes emptying (they never look at small inside pockets) and they have metal detector wands.
Unfortunately there is always an element of luck to it too though - I do know someone who on Thursday last year had put their sumpin-sumpin in a side pocket, that pocket got checked, and there went their stash for the whole weekend. They were pretty sad, because this wasn't a cheap sumpin-sumpin either.

at hangout they were literally taking every single item out of everyone's bag. they would unzip every single pocket, look into any container/small bag you brought in - they took my camera case out and even looked into every pocket in that tiny thing. they also did the most invasive pat downs I've ever seen - literally reaching into my shirt and feeling in between my chest. it was absolutely horrible. and the police completely harassed random people in line.
I've never seen more aggressive security. it was awful.
E: oh, and they didn't just throw out people's goodies. the cops immediately intervened at that point and, well, a lottt of arrests were made.

So sad.
I carried in sumpin sumpin unknowingly that the (at the time) boyfriend place in my bag. I got searched. It got found. The guy checking me smiled really big, handed it back to me, and wished me a happy bonnaroo.
