10. Jamie XX- Purely just good music and a great crowd. Loved how he didn't have a microphone and never said one word and we were all still into it
agreed! and he was actually spinning records. if a DJ is playing the good shit he doesn't have to scream at me to get my hands up, scream, etc. Just play great songs in a cool order and we'll do the rest. Crowd was really great at this show. I loved the progression of genres throughout the set too, started firmly in soul/r&b and slowly progressed into techno/minimal. Just so cool. Best electronic show of the weekend. I pulled out my phone and bought the deluxe vinyl of his new record immediately following the set.

1. Run the Jewels - The sense of camaraderie was one of the best I've experienced in 5 Roos. Also props to whomever bought all the plastic chains.
2. My Morning Jacket - Seventh time seeing them. Never disappoint.
3. Birdman w/ Antonio Sanchez - Incredible performance, really unique and memorable.
4. Courtney Barnett - Amazing energy, great material.
5. Freddie Gibbs and Madlib - Fucking party. Freddie was having such a good time and Madlib was incredible, as expected.
6. Florence and the Machine - Really surprised at how much I liked this. Amazing energy and the songs really popped.
7. Mac Demarco - A fucking great time. I had a blast at this show.
8. Billy Joel - Even though it was kind of a boring show, it was special for me because I've loved him since I was really little.
9. Tears for Fears - Was surprised at how engaging this set was. Expected to like the big hits, but the set as a whole was extremely well executed.
10. Strand of Oaks - Great way to kick off my Roo, great energy, massive sound, gracious frontman.
Worst show - Iceage. Came in liking them a lot on record, but came out not wanting to listen to them anymore. Elias was a huge, pretentious cock, the bassist contributed almost nothing, and I've seen better drummers in my after school elementary rock band class. God, what an awful drummer. The guitarist was the only one worth watching, but he seemed like Elias's domineering douchebaggery was even making him uncomfortable.

10. Mumford & Sons' Encore (I slept thru most of their set but holy shit that cover of Joe Cocker's version of "With a Little Help From My Friends" was a spiritual experience. 9. Bleachers 8. Gary Clark, Jr 7. Ben Folds & yMusic 6. Dawes 5. Earth, Wind, & Fire 4. Houndmouth 3. Florence + the Machine 2. Alabama Shakes (seriously, how many years till they're a headliner?) 1. Throwback SuperJam (despite the screen not being on and the sound bleed problems)
1. Deadmau5 - I have no idea if he presses play or mixes live but this set was my most enjoyable of the weekend 2. Royal Blood - I knew they would be good but holy shit I was blown away. I hope they keep getting more popular cause they deserve it. 3. Jamie XX - dude fuckin killed it. 4. Superjam - when DVS started spinning idioteque I lost my mind, juicy should be included in every sj from now on because it's the best song ever, krasno was great, etc. (I've read a lot of good things about SZA on here but I thought she was pretty bad in the superjam) 5. Caribou - at the start of that show the crowd looked like zombies and by the end everyone was raging. It was cool to see it get darker throughout the set but that light show would have been insane late night. 6. Atomic Bomb - awesome show, loved being able to be close and still have room to groove. The crowd was small but everyone was SO into it! (Also Jamie Liddell was fantastic here and in the superjam) 7. Houndmouth - wasn't even planning on seeing this but we were already close so just stayed there, they were my biggest awesome surprise of the weekend 8. Hiss Golden Messenger - laid in the shade and just listened but sounded great, perfect Sunday afternoon set 9. Jungle - they were great but after watching the end of mac demarco after I kinda wish I saw him... He sounded way better live than I expected 10. Kendrick Lamar - just realized I forgot Kendrick... He would probably be higher up but I don't feel like changing every number. Much improved from 2013 and the crowd up close was really into it!
HM: Courtney Barnett, Dawes, Alabama shakes
Got closer for a lot of shows rather than seeing more this year and it was definitely better. Still gotta meet some of you people some day

1. Alabama Shakes - Absolutely destroyed their set, got in the pit which was sweet as well. Was watchin Brittany walk out and she was all business before she took to the mic, opening with Future People and dominated every minute 2. Atomic Bomb - Very high energy set, probably one of the best dance parties ever on the Farm, and the music was great. I wish this set coulda been longer or at night but it was awesome nonetheless 3. Sturgill Simpson - Watched part of the Coachella set to see how his live performance was and it gave me high expectations. His backing band was talented and he let them stretch out during some songs and they killed it. Great graphic behind it as well and they dabbled into the jammy side of things on the tracks which was a welcomed surprise 4. Houndmouth - Came in liking a few songs, left loving them all. Excellent stage presence and seemed to really enjoy themselves. Crowd was vibing for this one 5. Strand of Oaks - Loved the conviction of the lead singer and thought this would be THE set to get my Bonnaroo off to a great start. Exceeded my expectations. Plenty of artists say how fun it is to perform and how its like no other festival but this guy was all about it. He crowd surfed at the end and just held up his fist triumphantly amongst the wildest cheers...started my festival off w/ a bang 6. Robert Plant - miles better then his 2011 performance, loved his jovial attitude, and got pit. 7. Moon Taxi - had pit, great set, played all the songs I wanted to hear, plus the RATM cover was sweet 8. Billy Joel - I can sing his songs in my sleep and have listened to him for a long time but he played select early tracks that I haven't seen live and that was a treat. Everybody Knows Your Name, All For Lleyna, and Sometimes A Fantasy were sweet 9. Ben Booker - had higher expectations but it was solid nonetheless 10. AWOLNATION - better then I expected live, glad I checked out the set
D'angelo and the Vanguard Caribou Run The Jewels Jamie XX Courtney Barnett SBTRKT Freddie Gibbs & Madlib Royal Blood Against me! Sylvan esso/Kacey musgraves;
Saw a lot less shows than normal but had great spots for outstanding sets.
Are there any videos of Gibbs & Madlib that you know of? I'm really sad they weren't on the stream schedule.
It seems like other people disagree, but I think you didn't miss much. Most of the set went something like this:
1. Freddie mentions that he's drunk and it's his birthday 2. He talks for a few minutes, mostly about girls' tits in the audience and what he wants to do to them 3. Freddie asks the audience to scream Fuck The Police 4. Madlib tries to start the song but Fredie interrupts him 5. Song starts, sounds great 6. Second verse Madlib switches the original beat to the same stupid electro beat every time 7. The last verse is a cappella 8. Repeat.
I love Freddie, but I wish I would have stayed at Spoon. He even had the worst Chance The Rapper cameo of Roo
I didn't go but I watched a little of the Tears For Fears set. I see they're being ranked rather favorably on here. Im wondering if this is mostly due to them covering Creep? I loved the bit of their set I watched on the webcast. They sounded quite good for their age, and their set list was built well.
1) Odds are The Rolling Stones in Nashville Wednesday night 2) Tedeschi Trucks Band (TTB) at the Tivoli in Chattanooga 3a) MMJ at Hangout 3b) The Word at Hangout - non stop in your face loud soul/blues/slide/funky stuff. 3c) Deap Vally at Hangout - for a band with just two musicians...absolutely amazing. 3d) Jeff the Brotherhood at Hangout - shout out to the little green men and the red thing that knocked the lead guitarist out for a couple beats. 3e) Jamell Richardson at Hangout - just a real surprise. 3f) TV on the Radio in the freaking hot sun and on the beach Hangout 4) Last First Friday Jam Night at the Lakeside Club local....Jesse Black, Ian Hunter and Hunter Wolkonowski

Finally got to see what all the hype was about with a live My Morning Jacket set at Bonnaroo. Every song was played like it was the last song of their set. Amazing!

No particular order:
Temples The Districts Sylvan Esso Run the Jewels Earth Wind & Fire (caught a decent amount after RTJ, my mind exploded when Chance & Kendrick came out) Bahamas Bleachers Flume Spoon Florence & the Machine
1. MMJ - Does anything really need to be said about it?
2. EW&F - Just hit after hit, woulda been an awesome set to have been at in person.
3. Strand of Oaks - I liked the Heal album. This set looked intense, and was feeding off the crowd's energy. My gf was complaining about all the "obnoxious rambling", I just see a man very grateful and happy for the opportunity and the fan support. It's now a must see at Newport, though I'm expecting it to be significantly toned down there.
4. Tears For Fears - Going into this, I knew mostly their most well known songs and that was about it. I wasn't sure what to expect beyond that, but I found their set very enjoyable.
5. Robert Plant - The weekend before at Mtn Jam, the setlist was heavier on Zeppelin songs. The Roo set just felt more special, if that makes sense.
6. RTJ - This might have been higher, if I had been there in person. But then again, if I was there I would have been at EW&F.
7. Royal Blood - I've only heard them a handful of times before, but damn I'm impressed.
8. Tycho - After a couple Tycho sets, I kinda know what to expect out of it. But it's still some damn fine music.
9. Mumford & Sons - I know people love to hate on M&S for various reasons. But they didn't go heavy on that snoozefest Wilder Mind, and the Joe Cocker cover was something special.
10. Billy Joel - I was flipping back and forth between this and the Superjam. It ended up mostly on BJ. It was unfortunate that his voice started giving out halfway through, and I understand the criticism of some of those deep cuts in the first half of the setlist. Even with the subpar voice, the man can still entertain a crowd and break out hit after hit.
I would have thought more people would be talking about Mac Demarco and Glass Animals.
There was a really unfortunate sound issue at Glass Animals, if you weren't in the tent you couldn't really hear. He looked like he was killing it on the screen though.
Flying Lotus- Came into it not really knowing his music but was dancing like a maniac the whole time. STS9- My favorite jam band ever to watch live. Real close toss up for one and two. Kendrick Lamar- Seen a lot of big name rappers and easily Kendrick was one of my favorite sets. My Morning Jacket- Enjoyed this set a lot more than the last time they were at roo. The War On Drugs- Great chill set. Hurray for the riff raff- Chill as well sounded really good perfect part in the day and i was smoking out with a hot chick. Dopapod- Awesome Thursday set they can tear it up. Run The Jewels- Only saw half the set but loved the energy they had. Between the Buried and Me- Big fan of there older stuff and really enjoyed the new stuff live. Tied Florence and the machine and Bassnectar.
That's all I'm listing because I know how much Inforoo loves them both. They make the rest of my list irrelevant, amirite??
I like both bands. Are you kidding around with your listing or being serious?
I absolutely loved both of them. I didn't stay for all of Awol because the humidity killed me during TOP. I've seen both bands a couple times prior to Bonnaroo. I was just joking around because most of Inforoo very strongly dislike them, especially TOP, lol.

Trust me I am not going to knock you at all for loving them. I actually was disappointed with Twenty One Pilots. Maybe it was the waiting or the fans around me but I didnt enjoy it as much. I also have been a lot closer for the last 2 shows I saw them. Also not a fan of the Car Radio in to Trees outro. I love Trees and want the whole thing

1) D'Angelo and the Vanguard 2) Caribou 3) My Morning Jacket 4) DJ Mija on Kalliope 5) Ben Folds and ymusic 6) Belle and Sebastian 7) King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard 8) Courtney Barnett 9) Earth Wind and Fire 10) Jungle

I loved the bit of their set I watched on the webcast. They sounded quite good for their age, and their set list was built well.
Part of it was the nostalgia factor for me because their greatest hits was a staple to throw in the cassette player when the parents took me on a road trip as a kid. And they just sounded excellent live. The combination of them sounding great and playing all songs I immediately could sing along with made this one of my highlights. Creep was fun but no Creep and it would still be top 5.
I didn't enough full sets to do a top 10 so I will mention what stood out most.
Note: Listed in chronological order
Full sets:
Dopapod- I'm told their crowd was bigger then D'Angelo. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard Twiddle Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn Jerry Douglas Presents the Earls of Leicester-6 Guys dress as Col. Sanders!!!
Partial sets:
Quickie Mart STS9 MMJ-Still need to be able to see a full set/show Superjam-Enough has been said already and probably still will be
(From my phone so my apologies for any weird formatting/spelling errors)
1. Earth, Wind, and Fire Holy. Quacking. Shiz. Most mind blowing set of the weekend! Being in the pit might have added to the experience, but the non-stop funk was pure bliss. From the loose choreography between the 12 musicians to the bassist just being a straight up badass the entire show,ETW owned the Which Stage with the precision of seasoned musicians all while having that lighthearted attitude of not taking themselves too seriously that we saw with Lionel last year. Now I know some of you probably rolled your eyes when they invited Kendrick and Chance on stage to freestyle, but as someone who knows absolutely nothing about the rap genre, the whole ordeal was extremely enjoyable and got me super pumped! It also allowed ETW to groove an extra 15 minutes so no complaints here! Great energy, great guests, and a great set list!
2. Against Me! Being a veteran of dozens of punk shows, this set was everything I've ever wanted out of a punk concert. The pit was intense but not violent, everyone was singing along, and the band sounded great! The set list was a perfect balance of all their albums and they looked like they were having a great time. It was heartwarming whenever Laura and James would exchange smiles and the bass player's goofy grin made me crack up multiple times. Another thing that made me feel all the feels was there was a transgender girl against the rail to my left and seeing her freak out for every song was very moving. I was shocked when they didn't end with We Laugh at Danger and Break All the Rules, but the massive sing along that went along with Sink Florida Sink more than made up for it. 10/10 would sweat my arse off again.
3. Robert Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters I was so worried that Plant was going to cancel that I was checking the online schedule every hour for updates. And thank god he didn't because his show was a glorious experience! The Space Shifters were truley masters of their craft and I was suprised how spry Robert was! He used the whole stage while swinging that mic stand around and appeared to genuinely be enjoying himself. His voice was on point, and it was fun hearing him sing covers of artists he saw in concert as a teen as well as Zep and his solo stuff. The most incredible moment happened during a Whole Lotta Love. Maybe he does this at every concert or maybe it was cuz he cancelled his last 3 shows and his voice was all rested up, but during the intro, he chuckled to himself and said, 'Feels like I got my voice back!' He then proceeded to flawlessly belt out the first verse of Whole Lotta Love, nailing all the high notes and everything. It gave me shivers and in that moment, I fully realized I was seeing a living legend. Just wish he was given a longer set!
4. Ben Folds and yMusic Having seen Ben in multiple forms live, yMusic is my new favorite. In college, I got to perform with various bands and orchestras while working on my music minor, so seeing him play with a chamber sextet was very satisfying. Ben was great at introducing all the musicians and was able to get the most crowd participation that I've ever seen at a concert! All the new songs sounded amazing and he even saved a song to be played for the first time at Roo! My gf was less than thrilled that we were seeing Ben Folds because she finds his voice annoying and thinks he looks like a mole, but Ben's charm and excellent stage presence even won her over in the end! I hope I can catch him with yMusic again!
5. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard What a bunch of goons! I can't be alone when I say that I think their set list was PERFECT, both the songs they did as well as the order. The rock flute on Hot Water was killer and the Am I in Heaven/Pill mashup was brilliant. What suprised me most though was how GOOD they sounded. I was afraid it would sound muddy live with seven band members, but from where I was standing (near the soundboard) it sounded damn near perfect. Wish I would have moved close cuz I was the only one dancing in my area, but dat sound quality was worth it. So glad Bonnaroo booked them!
I'll do my 6-10 later cuz this phone typing is getting tedious.
Back home on a real computer!
6. Atomic Bomb! At Roo or any festival really there are gonna be people at a show who are either there waiting for next band or are just there to say they saw the artist and either talk or text through the whole thing. This year, Atomic Bomb! was the exception for me. The crowd, though small, were those who had done the research when the lineup came out and where ready for a crazy dance party. And boy was it crazy! Sinkane was very professional, Jamie Lidell's voice was heavenly, and Money Mark was goofy as quack, jumping, dancing, and cart wheeling across the stage. But the intimacy of the whole thing made it a unique experience. We weren't packed in like sardines, there was plenty of room to groove, and idk, I just felt a connection with the performers and everyone there. Definitely a uniquely Bonnaroo experience!
7. SLAYER It was a bummer that the schedule change wasn't as public as it should have been, because the show was pretty under attended in my opinion. More people should have been there to pay homage to these metal gods!!! As a casual SLAYER fan, they exceeded all of my expectations. I was surprised how many of the songs I knew and loved how the lights and background stayed red the entire show. I got smashed towards the front of the tent early on so needless to say I got like 20 people dropped on me (the guy in the quacking banana costume like 5 times), but I got a great view of the shredding and Tom bringing the heat. Nothin beats head banging with fellow Bonnaroovians!
8. Sylvan Esso I caught their show mainly to get close for Ben Folds, but I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I listened to the album a couple times, but lemme tell ya, them beats REALLY get ya moving when played live! Amelia's dancing was enchanting as always, and I loved the silly banter. And that quacking ball! It was hilarious for a song or two, but I'm glad they got it out of there (Amelia's joke about being a female performer was perfect)! They played two new songs, both of which were super upbeat and you could tell the crowd ate that shiz up! Great show, just wish I wasn't in the back for most of it.
9. twenty | one | pilots So apparently these guys have blown up since they played on Thursday in 2013. I really enjoyed their antics back then and I wanted to see if they could top them on the What Stage. It was nice being able to waltz right into the pit, but dang dude, their fans are an obnoxious bunch! You would think that Jesus himself was about to descend from heaven and perform Rap God with all the hype going on! Anyways, they finally showed up 21 minutes late (OMG LULZ THEY TOTALLY PLANNED THAT) and played mostly stuff off their new record (which is passable at best). They did the same playing in the audience thing as they did last time which was cool and all, but what really tickled me was the reason they said they were late was because lawyers made them sign paperwork saying they wouldn't climb anything. That made the whole performance feel a little more personal for those of us who were there last time and saw the lead singer freakin climb to the top of the light fixtures with no harness or anything! During the same song this year he did run to the sound tower and climb up the stairs to do his scream thing which was fun. No drastically new theatrics and it ended pretty abruptly, but still a good show.
10. Billy Joel Chainsaw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
