I kind of want to know when it was that everyone started going to shows. As in, how old were you?
I grew up with live music. My mother used to tell me the story of when I was three and they took me to see Burton Cummings, and I was really upset because in my mind, I was going to see Big Bird. Live music was always a part of my life and taking my kids to shows and festivals has always been a thing. The first concert I ever went to that was my choosing was Green Day when I was 11. That was in 95.
My parents are not big music people, so I mainly listened to whatever my brother listened to growing up (RHCP, Pearl Jam, Gorillaz, RATM) until I got my license and he went to college. Really got into RHCP in high-school, first show I ever went to and it was what brought me to Roo 2012...the rest is history as they say.
My 16th birthday present was tickets to see my then favorite band Bush with Veruca Salt in 1997.
I saw this show too!
Did you see them at the Louisville date? I recall it was the day before the Kentucky Derby that year because the next day I broke my ankle skating and was in the emergency room while the race was running.

No no. Just the same tour. It was in Buffalo. The kids were sitting together and the two parents were in the row behind us. I'm pretty sure it was a school night.
First concert - Hanson, mall tour 1997, Columbus City Center Mall First concert alone- NSYNC, Pop Odyssey Tour 2001 or 2002, Crew Stadium First "festival"- Warped Tour, 2004 or 2005, Polaris Ampitheathre First real festival- Hookahville, Memorial Day weekend 2007, Legend Valley
I'm not real proud of this... 25 ta life. Honestly more times than I can count. In the late 90s they seemed to be playing in Connectucut almost every other weekend. The hardcore scene in Connecticut back then used to be pretty solid, and 25 ta life always seemed to be opening...

There is not a chance I can be exact on this. To answer karen1's question, I saw Peter Paul and Mary at the Loyola Field House when I was 3 or 4. My cousin took me to see Queen in Baton Rouge in 1978 or 79. My first concert out with friends was (Dixie) Dregs and Jaco Pastorius at Tulane U in 1982.
I've seen a bunch of local bands 15-30 times back in the hardcore days. I ran with Virul Nihils, so I probably saw them > 30 times. Shell Shock, Graveyard Rodeo and Spoiled Brats also opened for everyone coming through town. So I'm sure I saw all Them 10-20 times or more.
Modern era Bands I've seen the most: STS9 20ish (?), Umphrey's McGee 15ish, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave 12ish, Galactic - 10ish. I've seen a ton of acts 5-10 times, everyone from Yes and Tool to your various always on a festival lineup act such as Big G and Portugal. The Man.
I forgot to throw it up for Gravity A. I've seen them with various lineups probably 15 times or so. Everywhere from Hangout to Waka to many Blue Nile shows and whatever; Taking Heads sets to Pink Floyd Animals. They were freaky/tripy, then heavier with Bru Bruiser doing all that Hendrix and shit and now what they are today. They are playing free Friday at Tips in early August, and I haven't seen them in a while.
no big surprises, I didn't think I'd seen The Revivalists quite that much though. I think for a few years there they were at every festival I attended.
My 4 at the top hasnt changed in a while. I've seen MMJ, Clutch, Mutemath and dredg 11 times. May never get to see the last 2 again.
11- MMJ, Clutch, Mutemath, dredg 8-PTM 7-Avetts 6-Radiohead, Pearl Jam, QOTSA, Tool (will see the last 2 at least once this year) 5- Shovels & Rope, OCMS, Incubus, Mastodon, NIN, Nickel Creek, Gov't Mule, Chevelle, Bonnaroo Superjam (will probably see most of these this year except Chevelle and superjam) Seen a lot of bands 3-4 times including St. Vincent and Brandi Carlile who I will be seeing this year and Jason Isbell who I'll probably be seeing twice
I don't keep track (maybe I will start one day) and have no real way to make an accurate list right now. Guesstimate:
Dave Matthews Band would be around 40 times. By the end of this year MMJ will be around 10 (not including the NYE run if I end up there). After them, there are a really good amount of artists in the 6-9 range- mostly thanks to them being festival whores and me liking them enough to make their set a priority/ see them if they come nearby- Avetts, Dawes, The Head and the Heart, Bassnectar, Franti... Below them there are probably dozens that I have seen 4-5 times, so I am not going to even try to make a list of that.
This has changed a bit. I am 36 for MMJ and will be at 39 after the Dominican next month. Still don't track anything else, but definitely plenty in the 10+ category
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
