Question for you folks. After Bonnaroo's .38 Special Superjam presented by Bezelbub, I think my friends and I are really considering this, but I don't really know what it is like. I've been to Bonnaroo (x4), Boston Calling (x5), Newport Folk Festival, and WayHome. Is it comparable to any of them? I'm referring to things like atmosphere, crowding, the people (I hate the people at BC, and yes, I know this makes me a jackass), transportation to and from (easy to take the subway? CAN you take the subway?). I know this is kind of a loaded question, but I'd really appreciate some insight!

Out of all the festivals you listed is Boston Calling the only city one? If so I'd compare it most to that, only govball is on a much bigger scale. More stages, more bands, bigger crowds, etc etc. When I went in 2013 and 2014 the atmosphere was really chill. Not like Bonnaroo, but everyone was super friendly, and I didn't run into any douchebags. Especially with the lack of EDM this year I think it's gonna stay that way too. Biggest pain for most is the transportation. The fest is on an island in between Queens and Manhattan, and no subways go there. Your options are to take the bus there, take the ferry, take the subway to the bridge and then walk it, or just take an uber. I always walk. From Harlem it's only like a 10 minute walk. Where I'm from in Queens it's a little longer, but still do-able. It's much less of a hassle compared to waiting forever on long ass lines to get on the buses and ferry. Because of renovations to the island you can no longer park at the fest so everyone relies on public transportation. The fest has four stages, plus the silent disco and the area for lawn games. It's not too big, the two stages furthest apart from one another are the main stage and the honda stage, and I've been able to leave one crowd and get to the other in 5 minutes. Even with it being sold out every year it's never felt overcrowded to me. I've always been able to get a great view at every set. Oh, and because of NYC's noise curfew the music ends at 11pm sharp every night.

Thank you thank you! This is exactly what I was looking for. Including the time curfew thing too, which I had forgot about. Good tips on transportation.
Boston Calling has always been a bunch of younger (like 15-18 year olds with flower crowns) type of thing, offering people's first festival. Nothing wrong with that, I just go for the music itself moreso.
Might have to look into finding a place to stay now...

Smart move opening up another payment plan. Didn't they say it would only be available during presale? Wonder if tickets have barely moved since the lineup announcement.

I think the general consensus on this board is that Gov. Ball has one of the strongest lineups of any festivals, but outside of Kanye I can see it being a lineup that doesn't appeal to the masses. But even if the installment plans aren't the result of slower than anticipated ticket sales, it only benefits the festival and people going to have another payment option. Anything that gets more ticket sales before the Panorama lineup drop is a good thing for Gov. Ball.

Just figured I'd throw that video up there. I know money is tight for some people around here; and blowing $300 in one shot can be overwhelming. Payment plan isn't a bad option.
As a college kid who works a part time job, the payment plan is a true godsend.

Bought my return bus ticket... 12AM bus to Boston, get in at 5AM and go to work. Yeezy better be Saturday or Sunday because that ride won't be worth it for The Killers!

If you're using greyhound or peter pan, you can exchange your tickets for any other scheduled bus going on that route that day. So, if the Sunday headliner is the Killers, you can skip them and get to Port Authority and take an earlier bus.

One way ticket was $16 compared to $50 Amtrak. I'm still not 100% I'm going but I wanted to jump on the price while it was still somewhat cheap. Honestly, I'm not super sold on the line-up especially since there's a lot of cross over with Boston Calling. If I can see The Strokes and/or Kanye (I assume Kanye is more likely to tour than The Strokes), Beck, and a few acts lower on the bill (Bat For Lashes, De La Soul, Thundercat, etc) I'll be good.

, Would you tell us any other acts that they were pursuing that didn't work out or were on the lineup and had to drop out? (like Phosphorescent and Sky Ferriera)
Must See 2018 List: 1. Drake 2. The Cure 3. David Byrne 4. King Krule 5. Moses Sumney 6. Dua Lipa 7. Mount Kimbie 8. Perfume Genius 9. Yaeji 10. Big Thief
I'm still def getting a day pass for whichever day Kanye plays, should be great.
FYI the fest is actually selling tickets better this year than in the past. Depending on if things slow down, they may not even do day passes this year.
I'm doing Boston Calling the previous weekend so I can't commit to another full fest the next weekend.
Said this last year love it again this year. Daytime i know aftershows normally aren't announced till closer to the fest, but any hints or just a heads up that they'll be dope?

Oh crap I hope that's not the case. I'm the only one of my group who bought a 3 day pass everyone else just wants to go either Kanye's day or the Strokes' day.
But that is awesome that it's selling well, shouldnt be too worried with Panorama competition. I mean it makes sense, no matter how good Panorama's lineup is Kanye and The Strokes are always guaranteed to draw a huge crowd, especially in NY.

Good to hear on the ticket sales. This fest seems to care about the music as well as the money. Hope they have a strong year. Some non-miller beer options would make the fest even better.

Wow really? That's pretty impressive.
Any idea at what capacity for each day will be this year? Not sure if it was just me, but certain days really felt more crowded than others last year - wasn't sure if they oversold the Drake day just because they knew the interest would be there.
