It's not raining over here in Times Square at all right now. They really jumped the gun on this one. , okay so maybe it's raining a tiny bit. Nothing bad though.
Prophets of Rage pass acquired. So fucking stoked.
I skimmed the audio of the first show at The Whiskey. I thought it was great. Chuck D is a hero, and Morello in that Kevin and Bean interview, said P.E. was the number one influence on Rage. B Real said that while the politics of Cypress Hill wasn't always the same as Public Enemy's, they were a major influence on them as well. And being 2 of the first rap acts to have mosh pits, and with Cypress Hill on the same bills with rage over the years, B said he is about it. Then he and Chuck paid some homage to de la Rocha by saying it nearly takes both of them to fill the shoes. I don't know, but I'm looking looking forward to your report, more video on the web and hopefully a spot at Voodoo.
Looks like the worst of it has passed on radar. This is looking like a really soft cancellation at this point. They made an attempt to have the show go on in WAY worse conditions in 2013.
If Kanye shows up at Summer Jam like Pusha just said he's going to, will Gov Ball survive the PR backlash?
If Kanye plays an open air stadium fewer than 10 miles away on the same night? Yea, I'd never buy a Gov Ball ticket ever again. And I've bought several over the years.
No. The NYC Park Department took bribes from the Panorama people to cancel Sunday of Gov Ball. The evil corporate overlords of Panorama want their site to be free of mud next month.
Lightning is an issue at Randall's Island, but not eight miles away at Metlife Stadium? I've been at Metlife during a lightning storm, and they shut it down just like anyone else does. They're not shutting it down, their gates are open and they're getting ready for the rain or shine show they advertised. I bet the grounds on Randall's Island are in terrible shape, and it's a muddy swamp. But lightning isn't passing the bullshit test. The sun is out, 45 minutes before Kanye was scheduled for. The storm has passed. www.wunderground.com/weather-radar/united-states/ny/new-york-city/okx/
This is looking like a premature cancellation no matter how you slice it.

If they need to cancel Summer Jam because of lightning, they can do it and get people inside in minutes. Completely different situation to evacuate 50,000 people off of an island.

If they knew it was going to be this light, I highly doubt they would've cancelled. They made a premature call, and they're looking bad because of it. If they're going to cancel every time there's a brief storm over a 3 day period in NYC in June, they're going to have to cancel half the time. That's exactly what has happened. It's not bad luck, it's just the reality of this part of the country in June, and it's a big part of why outdoor summer festivals have struggled mightily to succeed here despite the huge market.
It's 611. B could have done 7 hours of this thing at least
And then evacuated 60k people from the island?
I'm not saying it was the right decision, but it was definitely a reasonable one.
Exactly. Getting off of that island was probably the worst foot traffic I have ever been in. It took 2.5 hours to make a 20 minute commute. If there actually was a terrible storm there would be no more GovBall. This scenario sucks for everyone. GovBall loses money and angers their customers. It's a loss for the company but a significantly smaller loss than human life (and the law suits that would come of it). I really hope they can recover from this because I did enjoy my time here.

Well, except that there actually was a real terrible storm in 2013, and there is still a GovBall. They held the festival in the middle of Tropical Storm Andrea. That was always a plus in my book for them even if the conditions were brutal, they'd proved to me that they would do everything possible to keep the show going no matter the conditions. When you're considering buying a ticket to an eastern seaboard festival in June, that counts for a lot. Now, I don't have that faith anymore. If I go back, I'll be purchasing tickets the week of when I can see a somewhat accurate weather report. If a storm this small is cause for cancellation, there is way too high a risk of cancellation to commit to this festival in advance. And that sucks, because I really like this one, the location is great and it's very well organized.
So today was the most dissapointing day ever. I can't say I didn't have fun though. I didn't even make it into Two Door Cinema Club because people suck and totally screwed up the line. I would have made it in too if like 200 people didn't cut in front of me. But whatever, still an adventurous day, saw a lot of cool shit, experienced new things, and met a lot of cool people. New York might be my favorite city I've ever been to. I'll see Kanye on his tour and at least I have Bonnaroo to look forward to.
