At least we don't need to be concerned with many Boston Calling conflicts this year lol. They seem to have gone another direction
Yeah, I got a bit excited when I saw the email this morning and then looked at the actual lineup and only recognized 5 or so acts and was quickly disappointed. That weekend freed up real fast!
I love the Boston Calling lineup, and now I can basically assume it'll have one artist at most crossing over with Newport (not that there are ever too many), which leaves Newport open for some great surprises.
Boston Calling's lineup is one of the best that's been released this year, not sure what you guys are on about other it's focus on slightly poppier/electronic artists
They're the only festival that got Janelle Monae and Charles Bradley One of only a handful that got Sia, Robyn, and Sufjan Stevens And got Courtney Barnett and Haim who are fucking fantastic live acts
That depends on the kind of music you're into, if you don't like poppier electronic acts you hate this lineup
Pretty much. I feel the like Boston Calling lineup caters to a niche audience, and feels very eclectic compared to their usual lineups.
Here's to hoping Newport gets Charles Bradley and Courtney Barnett! I'd also love to see Sufjan there again, but since he played last year, I'm not sure that'll happen..

A couple years ago, the Mrs. and I went to see Disclosure over at House of Blues.
Twas the only time I've ever seen people doing bumps of coke out in the open, in this case huddled up college kids waiting to get in out on Landsdowne St.

Probably molly. Its funny how the stuff cycles. In college I remember a bunch of people getting in to "Special K" and never really saw it again for a long time even though Im in the hippy scene until ketamine was everywhere at a fest I went to last year.

Courtney also played last year. I wouldn't expect her either. But the more Charles Bradley the better!
Who are we thinking this year? Seems a little less obvious than last other than a couple names, which I like.
Probable: Nathaniel Rateliff (confirmed) Charles Bradley Dave Rawlings Machine Father John Misty Alabama Shakes Anderson East Lucius Leon Bridges The Lumineers?
Hopeful (not including headliners): Glen Hansard Chris Stapleton Jamestown Revival Fraser A Gorman Josh Ritter Margo Price Dispatch/Chadwick Stokes The White Buffalo Phosphorescent Natalie Prass Tedeschi Trucks Band Hip-hop???
They have had repeats "back to back" so there's no reason to write Courtney off yet.
Such as:
The Lone Bellow Shakey Graves
The Lone Bellow were 2013 and 2015. But yeah Shakey Graves. I just expect the ones this year to be Nathaniel Rateliff and Leon Bridges But just like Charles Bradley, more Courtney is never a problem for me
Don't be a jerkwad, there's a large number of people on this board who love Newport and also love the Boston Calling lineup.
I have have no idea why you think 12 year olds would like it.
I think this board is a little bit more specific to Newport than a lot of the other boards are to their specific fest. Boston Calling got a lot of "good gets" in the festival world. Most of it isn't my cup of tea but I can appreciate the way they went out and got some "good" stuff booking wise. I don't think they're comparable fests at this same point.

Agreed. And that makes me even more excited for Newport. The folk artists I've seen at BC haven't blown me away. Lone Bellow at BC was probably the least exciting time I've seen them, Newport was one of the best. I'd rather they have less crossover because Newport just brings out the best in those artists in a way no other festival does. Ugh I can't wait to be back. And for the lineup to start dropping!
Just putting it out there: I would love to go to that Boston Calling. I love Robyn, Disclosure, Sufjan, Miike Snow, and Haim. And Sia would be a fun show.
Lisa Hannigan and Aaron Desner would be a good booking for Newport, I think. I don't even know what their duet entails. But I assume it's folky.
Do you guys think The Oh Hellos! will come back to Newport this year? Their new album is phenomenal, and I would love to catch a full set of theirs. When they played in 2014 I caught the end of their set at the Quad Stage and they had a ton of energy!

Would love them back! I didn't catch their set, was over chilling at Pokey LaFarge, who was great. But of the two, I've listened to much more Oh Hellos in the year and a half since. And I went over to the Quad right after for Benjamin Booker. Hopefully if they're back they get a main stage set
