What's interesting is that according to the Facebook post it'll be a solo show, so maybe it'll be without his band? This made my week, and it's only Monday!
You kids and all your new fangled social media stuff. Its not like I work for an international tech firm like Dell or such and should know this shizzle! Oh wait.. maybe i do

That's what I'd guess as well. His solo shows are fantastic as well. And after Gov Ball and Roo, I'm happy to see a different set
There's a great article on NFF's twitter about FJM's Old Uncle Jerry alter ego. I remember watching his show at Newport in 2013 and thinking I don't know what that was all about but it was brilliant! Hope he brings his surliness back. Love him.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Sorry to interrupt the flow of this wonderful FJM conversation (his '13 set in my top 5 Newport performances) just wanted to introduce myself as a longtime lurker. This will be my 5th year in a row at Newport. I was hooked on Saturday 2012 when MMJ finished through one of the most epic thunderstorms I've experience. When people say they can control the weather, I am fully convinced.
Anyway, huge Newport fan. Super excited to see what they'll pull out of their butts this year after possibly the best musical performance I have ever been to with Waters and MMJ last year. Off to a great start with Ray Lamontangne and Misty. One of the cool things about going to a festival like this for so long is you start seeing the same bands from your first year or two and can see how they've grown as artists and performers, like Langorne or the Lone Bellow

Welcome!! I've said it many-a-times, but MMJ at NFF '12 was what changed me from a fan to a super fan. Magical, magical evening with the storm winds whipping through Jim's locks!

I only hated sitting in the car drenched for a couple hours getting out of the park that day
You should've pulled a bonzai and basically got naked before getting into the car (I was able to keep my bag dry-and therefore my tapestry- which I wrapped around myself after). I might have been drunk/ high on music/ high on the storm, so that might've affected my decision to strip before climbing in a packed van.

Pretty sure I was so soaked by the time I got to the gates to leave that I just took my shoes off and walked the final mile without them....and then the roads to the bridge were all flooded...but you know it was a good show when all of that plus a 3 hour, 40 mile drive home cant bring your mood down

Love the FJM announcement. His performance was my favorite in 2013. I didn't love the new album like I did the first but I'm still pumped to see Tillman again.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
Hopefully by them booking him solo, he won't go on another rant and won't start throwing equipment.
That added so much to the performance. It's part of what made it so memorable. I saw him two days before that show at the House of Blues and his performance at Newport was just at a whole different level. The festival brings out a side of bands that other places don't....which can mean different things for different bands

Question for people who have seen FJM solo, do you think his set at Newport will be better or worse solo? I'm a little skeptical, I feel like a full band set would have been better. Curious.
